Hey all, this is my first post in the Rec forums, so I hope I'm presenting this correctly. Anyways, I'm looking for, basically what the title states. Epic, nordic black metal, maybe some clean vocals thrown in, not necessarily with a bunch of synth, but melodic riffs. I hope I'm not being too vague.

Something like:
Gorgoroth's Proftens Apenbaring: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nf_zOPMQYQ

Ensiferum's Battle Song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioWDijQ2Enw

Thanks for any help.

I think you will love Dark Forest(Can)-Land of the Evening Star.
If you like that, you'll definitely love their preceding album, Aurora Borealis

Ereb Altor!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObR751rqGr0
The sound of their first 2 albums is viking/doom with cool clean vocals but their new album Gastrike is black/viking, sadly no songs on youtube yet.

Triglav from Ukraine comes to mind. They're full of energy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6NcdRsFKPI

Seconding Dark Forest.

You can try Morok from Germany. Tremendous riffs and it gives you that marching into battle feel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cE-WLHGi ... detailpage

Too many of you posted to respond individually, but I checked your rec's, and those are some damn fine bands. Erub Altor, Mistur, and Hammer Hordes were specifically awesome, still got a few more to click. Thanks, everyone! :)

I know just what you need, man! Hades - Again Shall Be and Dawn Of The Dying Sun, a nifty little Norwegian band that often gets overlooked. They started out playing epic sounding black metal, akin to Bathory's Hammerheart, but more blackened. The second album seems to have worse production for some reason.

Also, worth noting are:

Aeveron, a melodeath/black outfit, not completely unlike Ensiferum

Asgaroth - Trapped In The Depths Of Eve, one of the few epic black metal bands that mix symphonics and guitars quite well that I've stumbled upon

Aiumeen Babosa, same as above really, but with some beautiful, uplifting moments.

Eljudner: http://youtu.be/QFO2Vt1VayE

Sadly, they've only released an EP and a 7" so far.

Hordagaard - "Made In Norway" EP: http://youtu.be/xp2TawQszW8

I didn't know there was a video for this until just now. He also has a folkish/acoustic project called Hornsvalder, and is currently playing in Embalmed Salvation and Solemn Curse which are both badass Black Metal bands down in Texas. The link in my signature has more samples from projects he and I are in/have been in.

The duel Skallgrim demos are on 1 cd available from our joint label Below The Earth Productions.

Falkenbach rules!

Also try Abigor - Orkblut, it's not really Nordic but but pretty folksy and epic.

Dude, you should totally give Myrkgrav a listen.
It's pretty Folk inspired, but it's still Black Metal.
The lyrics are also in Norwegian, which helps drive the whole Nordic aspect. :)
