For Polish thrash, I'd also recommend Egzekuthor. They put out a few newer albums in recent years, which were alright, but their 1990 demo 'Hateful Subonsciousness' was quite good, slightly sophisticated Eurothrash with a hint of the prevalent German style (Destruction, Kreator, etc).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyJEZSI1mnM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZBgIwY8 ... re=related

Others that are more obvious:

Wolf Spider (progressive thrash):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPxkCL5xzXw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIDGq4-3 ... ure=relmfu

Hammer (rugged loud thrash sometimes like Destruction):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTTM62I9y_g
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEeLZYfa ... re=related

Dragon (thrash with more death metal elements on recent albums):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqP9cLjz ... re=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzU-TfFQFaU

Turbo (thrash with some power metal screaming on the old albums):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWpVLKEzC7c
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycMNpk7_K2Q

Testor (a little more modern and 'groove' than some of these others):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTdpmp3m ... ure=relmfu
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7ldnFB- ... ure=relmfu

And last, but definitely not least, Kat, who once played a thrash/speed hybrid with some black metal aesthetics:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vK84ZJ7lrKY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tyg6Tsbn ... re=related

Most of these bands are still around, too, though some of the albums have changed styles.

Agreed on this one, that's a fun album, and Wolf Spider as well.

Additionally, those with a liking for a bit cheesier stuff, Astharoth takes itself much more seriously than it should: http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Astharoth/2444

Gloomy Experiments is an entertaining album, but definitely not 1st tier thrash; the production is actually a bit amusing. Take it as a time capsule from the times after the Eastern Bloc's fall: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Msh6gvdO4w

If you don't mind thrash with some groove elements then try these. I usually hate these kinds of bands but I like these ones a lot.

Horrorscope
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nImZzhXt1lo

Chaosphere
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdOum1t4AkA

Virgin Snatch
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNNHp6aKvvk

And if you like crossover thrash then check out Acid Drinkers who have been around since the 80s and have quite a few albums out.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anolZApldLU

For black/thrash Witchmaster is very good and has had Inferno (Behemoth) involved. He does the drums on Masochistic Devil Worship
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWKFLQQ8jao

For 80s thrash then I don't think this one has been mentioned.

Alastor (in the style of the bay area. Great vocalist but fairly boring)

Does anyone know any good brutal/death thrash?
Anything like Sodom, Possessed, even Forbidden or Coroner?

And while I'm here, how 'bout some good speed/thrash? Anything will do with that one.

for brutal thrash then check out all of these.

The Crown, Protector, Kreator, Invocator, Morbid Saint, Thanatos, Rabid, Demolition Hammer, Sadus, Incubus, Sarcofago, Vulcano, Mutilator, Torture, Gammacide, Rigor Mortis, Devastation, Exhorder, Dark Angel, and Num Skull

For speed/thrash
Whiplash, Agent Steel, Megadeth, and Overkill (Taking Over era is speed/thrash).

There are a lot more but that should get you started.

Psh, AcidWorm is sooooo entry level. Do you even Laceration, Blood Money, and Znowhite??
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRXYV7Y3OnI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpCaYBLw5GY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Nq2uXIjOgw
Regarding Znowhite, their album is pretty intense thrash, but their EP's/demos are speed/thrash, leaning a bit more towards speed metal. Laceration is pure Demolition Hammer worship, and Blood Money is speed/thrash leaning much more towards thrash. Sounds a lot like Kill'em All with cleaner vocals.

@Acidworm
Thanks, I'm actually familiar with most of those acts, although I think it would do me good to refresh my memory on Rigor Mortis and Num Skull. Completely open to more suggestions if you've got 'em. The more obscure, the better.

@Thashierthanthou
I was actually only very recently introduced to Znowhite, good stuff. Really dug that Lacerated piece, loved the intensity.
I must say though, how have I never even heard of Blood Money before? That was some top-notch thrash if I've ever heard it. Thanks for that one

Other speed/thrash bands I enjoy:

INTRUDER - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfHfCFlYTi8
IMMACULATE - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXyKSyG6bFk

TOXIK - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2VZ1n283uI

You may have already heard some or all of these bands before but I just wanted to make sure.

Cranium is some pretty crazy speed/thrash with over the top vocals from Sweden.
Ulysess Siren is mandatory for speed/thrash and they are pretty technical as well.

Also check out Viking, Intruder, Artillery, Razor, Nuclear Assault, Angel Dust, Solitaire (Exciter worship), Iron Angel, Vectom, Sacrifice (Forward to Termination in particular),

For brutal or death/thrash then check out Corrupt (Swe), Epidemic, Abominator, Agressor (Kind of boring but it is fast and brutal), Funeral Nation (Slayer worship), Insane (Slayer's debut worship), Messiah, Merciless, Energetic Krusher, Ritual Sacrifice.

For something a little more technical or progressive since you mentioned Forbidden and Coroner then check out Aspid, Arcane, Mekong Delta, Target, Sieges Even (Pretty underrated).

Also use the search function as there are tons more that have probably been mentioned in these threads.

And also check out Cyclone Temple since Znowhite went on to form them after the split.

Absu's Tara is such a frustrating record: the music itself is good but I can't stand the loud drums.

I'm looking for some really raw thrash metal, something like early Celtic Frost, but instead of the TGW grunts I want some banshee-styled vocals. Any suggestions?

Hey guys. Can anyone recommend me some thrash metal covers of punk songs? Like Megadeth's cover of Anarchy in the UK or Slayer's cover of Guilty of Being White?

Thanks.

I personally prefer the live version of that song where they mix it up with Sabbath's War Pigs. It's genius.

PS: In case anyone wants to know, that clip is from the Wrecking Everything DVD. And yes, it's every bit as awesome as an Overkill DVD should be.

The drums are the best part! Normally I'm not a big fan of metal that doesn't have guitars as its most important or interesting point, but the drums are just so fucking fantastic on that album. That's not to say that the riffs or vocals are weak or anything like that of course, they're great also, it's just that the drums are simply even better.

They may be good, but that doesn't mean they should overshadow the guitars.

Hm, Testament's The Legacy had some potential to be great. The vocal lines are solid, the leads are enjoyable but the riffs themself are decent at best. Too bad.

The leads on that album (and "The New Order") are easily some of the best ever recorded in thrash metal.

Yes it does. The best part should be the most eminent part. And you can hear the guitars perfectly fine anyway, so I don't see a problem.

Yeah, never felt the mix on Tara kept me from enjoying it, the drums are definitely up front but they don't bury the guitars by any means.

Not sure which section to write my appreciation of this band, but thrash section wins because it came first haha. Just listened to Matthias steele's first album and this is some quirky, yet highly entertaining power/thrash that I never hear anything about. That vocalist has some insane pipes on him that is for sure. What is the second album like?

I've only heard Haunting Tales... but yeah it kicks major ass. Except for the shrill mouse-like verses in some songs, it's a damn awesome listen. Just going by the trend here, but an awesome thrash band that releases a come-back album in the 2000's is usually a recipe for disappointment.

Hexen is in my opinion the best of the retro thrash acts. For originals I tend to explore the relatively unheralded: Vio-Lence, Flotsam & Jetsam etc.

OK everyone I need some recommendations here. I am getting heavily into Overkill and Testament right now and want something similar. I have all Metallica's releases, Megadeth's, Reign in Blood by Slayer, all of Exodus' stuff, All of Kreator's stuff besides 2 albums, I have 2 album from Sodom and 3 from Destruction.

For similar-sounding straight-up speed/thrash, you've got groups like Annihilator, Sabbat, Essence, Coroner, Artillery, Heathen, Carnivore, Ulysses Siren, and Hallows Eve.

There are plenty of great power/thrash groups out there, too, like Holy Terror, Paradox, Temple of Blood, Imagika, Shatter Messiah, Realm, Powermad, Flotsam and Jetsam, later Agent Steel, and Angel Dust.

For more techy thrash, I can offer you Watchtower, Toxik, and Forbidden. Vektor and Outcast (Fra) are also techy, but possess more extreme metal stylings.

I have all Metallica's releases, Megadeth's, Reign in Blood by Slayer, all of Exodus' stuff, All of Kreator's stuff besides 2 albums, I have 2 album from Sodom and 3 from Destruction.

Death Angel is a must for you, particularly the debut (the only one I cared for). Another big bay area thrash band along the same lines as Metallica and Testament.
