I'm quite glad that Ghostface Killah hasn't yet learned to post outside of the Metal Discussion board.

Its the best ridiculous gimmick here. He is no Big Ghost chronicles but no one is. RIP in advance of the inevitable; too beautiful for this world, sweet prince, et al.

Yep, I read it in the newspaper this morning.

Damn, that makes me sound old, doesn't it?

It's a fairly significant discovery. I can't say much apart from what the scientists at CERN have already said, that while they should remain sceptical about the discovery it has major implications for science and society in the years to come. I've done a bit on particle and quantum physics and it's still hard to follow. I kind of can't wait for holidays to be over so I can hear the reactions from the physics department at university, but then again I also want to enjoy my holidays.

But now we have to put up with popular media hyping it and getting everything wrong. Even if the people at CERN found a particle with properties consistent with the Higgs boson, stamped across every article and newspaper will most likely be the words "GOD PARTICLE FOUND". As an aspiring scientist, that term really irks me.

Luckily, you and your fancy psychology university won't be subjected to talks about god particles on a daily basis.

 And that's why psychology kicks ass!

Atrocious_Mutilation, are you enrolled in a psychology program as well? I'll be graduating with a Bachelor's in Fall, and then hopefully heading somewhere to earn a PHD in forensic psychology.

My roommate has the most annoyingly generic taste in music. He's into Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, crunk and dubstep. wtf

I don't really understand the science, does it have anything to do with aliens?

So Septic Flesh is an interesting band, I was browsing through ΕΣΟΠΤΡΟN (Yes I copy-pasted that) this morning, specifically the track "Ice Castle". Sounds like... chill-out death metal? Not really face ripping or anything, but I liked it.

Faster I have no idea what Crunk is, but the rest doesn't sound too bad.

EDIT: See my first edit, I was referring to the other stuff, not that Crunk didn't sound too bad.

But all the same, that sounds terrible.

You know Lil' Jon? Yes, that Lil' Jon. That's crunk. It's like super intense, shouty club rap.

I'm convinced headphone/earphone producing companies are part of a horrific, mutual conspiracy. Namely their decision to make the following true.

Better headphones = shittier cable. I swear every decent set of head/ear phones/buds I have ends up with either a fragile cable, or a robust cable made really poorly.

Nothing, really. But they are, admittedly, two of the most generic things one could musically enjoy.

Nothing really, (well, I don't like them), but if your musical tastes are Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and two other confusingly popular music genres of the time, I can't take your music interests seriously.

Led Zep and Pink Floyd? It could be far worse... and those bands are gateways to a lot of awesome bands from the 70's.

About dubstep, introduce him to Scorn (the one with Mick Harris from Napalm Death). His newer stuff is not really my cup of tea, but Vae Solis is really good.

Crunk is another thing: after each crunk album (if that thing exists, maybe it's only singles), you could blast something along the lines of Impaled Nazarene's first, Antaeus, old Mortician or Sublime Cadaveric Decomposition. I'm pretty sure your roommate will buy headphones

I HATE that shit. I hadn't had hiccups in years when they struck me for like 3 days a week ago. The most annoying thing in recent memory, by far.

Seconded.

As discussed elsewhere before (I think it was the "have you ever met someone from MA?" thread), I've never been to a metal show and don't really have any immediate plans to attend one, but if I had the chance I would go in a second to see Sleep perform Dopesmoker from start to finish. That would be fucking awesome. I've just always loved the doom-laden stoner monstrosity that is that song/album, and I've got to think that seeing it performed live would be phenomenal.

We'd be SO sorry if you didn't. Be extra careful! A good folk remedy is to jump from a garage or shed roof in crucifix position back first onto a lawn. But if it doesn't work we will, like, totally lament you. Guaranteed.

A good remedy for hiccups that my meemaw told me when I was a wee lad was to put wax in both ears such that they are completely blocked, hold your nose shut and close your mouth... then blow really hard! It didn't work, but my eyes bulged out and I momentarily looked like one of the Simpsons.

Thanks, now everything hurts and I'm still having hickups. I should probably try running in front of cars to scare myself instead.

Probably.

It's basically that the forces we understand don't have the strength to actually keep particles together, and so a heavy Higgs Boson was needed to give it the initial mass to hold it together, right? Or that they flat out shouldn't have any mass and they do? The last one is a concept I just can't grasp, God, particle physics is right over my head.

And yeah, I'm getting a lot of "God Particle" stuff on the radio morning show right now, Higgs Boson is a cool enough name, they should use the real one.

I've seen that. Twice :D

They basically cut Dopesmoker in half and put Holy Mountain in the middle and shuffle the order of those songs. The second time they skipped Evil Gypsy and Inside the Sun.

Winter is coming!! My favorite season is probably autumn though, wearing a sweater and walking throughout the bright colors are cool.

Don't get me wrong, summer has its benefits. But where I live it is not a nice warm summer I deal with, its overall the muggy 'hey its actually 23'c but 40'c+ with humidity' shit. Not so comfortable.
