Yeah, you kinda need other people to play it. That's probably why I don't.

Man, Tyranny are so boring. For a band that tries to be as cliche Funeral Doom as possible, their guitar sound sure is lacking. They should stick to Wormphlegm.

There's always telnet muds. I remember one that I played back in 2000 but I doubt it's still active.

Edit: That takes the nerdiness of DnD to a whole new level though...

Great vocalist but really poor band in my opinion. The lyrics are just terrible, and the songwriting's pretty unimaginative. I did enjoy Wicked Generation though, which is like an O:M clone.

Really? I thought Obsessions was a much stronger album, despite suffering from as you said a touch of un-originality. The production and vocals are just like ear candy. And who gives a fuck about lyrics? If I did I wouldn't be as versed in Christian metal as I am.

I guess beating him untill he turned into a vegetable would also have sufficed..... But you can't blame the dad, I probably would have done the same thing in that situation.

I generally settle for being the game master. I love it, in fact, and you can bet your sweet butts that there's no hack'n'slash dungeon crawling in those games.

I have hack'n'slash dungeon crawling but I mostly play Rules Cyclopedia or BECMI (Basic, Expert, Companion, Master, Immortal sets) DnD - that thing is made for dungeon crawling or mostly in my case ruin crawling. Although in my usual campaigns there is a lot of wilderness exploration and recently naval adventures.

Never look up vocal covers on streaming websites. It's a cesspool.

A story is always more important than the battles, although a good fight is always a nice cherry on top of the cake. But it must always be secondary to the main theme; that's one of the reasons I still use or modify the mid-80s RuneQuest for any purpose: battle is lethal as hell, and thus gets downgraded to Plan C status by even the most hard-headed players after a few sessions. Also, the system does not have the usual bullcrap of other systems, such as EXP, levels, character classes, or alignments, and the magic is, with a few exceptions, really low key. And yes, ANYONE can be killed by an average orc with a single scimitar slash. I love it!

Ooh, I forgot about Obsessions. I didn't listen to that one much as I was getting out of that style at the time, but I do remember it being quite pleasant. I don't usually mind lyrics unless they're utterly fucking abrasive, and I'd put SW (at their worst) in that category. Seriously, "He Died" has to count among my three most hated songs in human history. I'd probably start projectile vomiting if I had to listen to that for fifteen more seconds.

Do not misunderstand me. Yes there is fighting in my game but: a) it's old school DnD so it's properly lethal, b) we play sandbox-style. By sandbox I mean I present a world to the players with oportunities for exploration and adventure. What they do with it, where they choose to go etc. is there thing. Therefore in my campaign story developes in a very organic manner through play. Of course I stick module-like adventures here and there but they are not obligatory. I liked RuneQuest and will be probably looking at RuneQuest 6 for a secondary fantasy campaign but my Rules Cyclopedia sessions are going well. So yes the players can go through some orcs but that should not be the go-to tactic because most of the time they have no info on the enemy. Rushing into combat is not really good in such a situation.

Plus, if the players decide, I make domain play a big aspect of the game. As for EXP, character classes etc. - those are the tropes of DnD and I really would not feel I am playing Dungeons And Dragons without them. Same with Vancian casting.

I've spent way too much time surfing youtube finding funny videos of people doing vocal covers of metalcore songs hoping to become internet famous but really just making a fool out of themselves. Like this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-Z3y_OGQwo
Also, King Diamond's The Family Ghost has the best verse in metal history. So damn catchy. So damn good.

Wow, haven't listened to that in years. "Hand me that torch and I will lead you the way, To the secret in the daaark". Genius.

EDIT: Made me decide to listen to 'Abigail' in its entirety, something I've not done in a long time... Damn, I've forgotten how good it is.

Today I saw that the mom of one of my old friends (and the friend herself, to a lesser extent) were featured on an episode of What Not to Wear. Part of the filming apparently took place in my town, too. I don't give much of a crap about the show's actual premise, but damn, it's weird seeing well-known local stores from your tiny, >3,000-person town appear on national television, let alone people you actually know from said town.

Ehh I don't like that song so I probably won't attempt it. Might cover ''Pull Me Under'' or another song these days. And yeah, I might upload a short range clip soon. Yeah I've told you before I'll upload shit but I really will these days. Don't worry. :p

 Yeah, the first of those especially always gets me. When I heard it for the first time, it annoyed me - it felt like it ripped me out of my casual absorption in the song and made me too conscious of listening - but since then it's actually become something for which I (implicitly) wait or look out.

Abigail is among the few tapes that MUST stay close to my tape deck at all times. Almost every time I turn it on, Abigail is played.

Well, it says on your profile that you're in my basement. I don't have a basement, but if you somehow manage to come up I'll play.

Man, I really miss the days of playing AD&D and Warhammer, but now that everyone has to work and study we can never coordinate our schedules.

EDIT Oh, just realized I'm not on the games thread, I was already wondering what was up with all those non-game posts hah

I really wish i could've played more DnD than what I did. I only got to do a campaign and a half... barely. the first one I think we played once a week for like 6 months and it sorta just devolved into going to go eat somewhere and fuck the game... I only remember like 5 good sessions and then it went to shit unfortunately. the second time was like 2 years later and with two of my friends from that first group. it lasted 3 sessions cause it was actually a very short seize a tower type thing my friend who had never gamemastered threw together to give it a shot.

My favorite album is Imaginary Soundscape!

SLK, I think the problem is that D&D needs people to get together and the D&D players aren't the most social persons in the universe! It's also hard to get players, I guess. Can't wait to try it though.

It's better if you just do it with friends. When we happen to get around to play, we do a one night session that ends up with lots of bizarreness and laughter, I don't think we've touched a rulebook in ages, whoever is mastering just makes the stats and that along the way.

I liked the technical side of DnD, just going around dungeons, rolling dice, and doing stuff. But most of my friends were too big on the role playing aspect, that wasn't for me at all. lol
