Overacting or not, that compilation was hilarious. Actually, I think this was the first time I sincerely enjoyed watching Nicolas Cage.

Let's face it, it's only possible to enjoy Nicolas Cage as a fevered sham of a human being. It's what he was destined for.

I don't know. Nicholas Cage is whatever. I've enjoyed some of his stuff. But, why spend so much time and energy hating actors? Why spend so much time hating anything? It's a total waste of energy. If I find I dislike something, I simply acknowledge that and move on. No need to waste any more time on it.

Anyway, I squashed a cockroach in the kitchen a day ago. Found out we have giant holes on the baseboards in the kitchen. Told my roommate to call maintenance and have a person come out and throw down some boric acid to see if it fixes the problem, and somebody to come patch the holes.

Why do you hate cockroaches? Blame Goatfangs, it's maybe his insects!

Who here has wasted more than a negligible amount of energy on the guy though? I don't think writing posts on the internet is a particularly demanding effort really... and I doubt any of the people expressing their "hate" for Cage here actually lose sleep or create picketing campaigns over how terrible he is (if you do, though, get off the internet and seek help, for god's sake!), people have gone to a free-for-all, eclectic-topics style forum thread where Nicholas Cage has been discussed, and gave their input on the subject. Some have been negative. He's a famous actor, there is nothing shielding him from criticism, now is there?

Quote:
Three activists who travelled to Chicago for this weekend's NATO summit were accused Saturday of manufacturing Molotov cocktails in a plot to attack U.S. President Barack Obama's campaign headquarters, Mayor Rahm Emanuel's home and other targets.

But defence lawyers shot back that Chicago police had trumped up the charges to frighten peaceful protesters away, telling a judge it was undercover officers known by the activists as "Mo" and "Gloves" who brought the firebombs to a South Side apartment where the men were arrested...

Longtime observers of police tactics said the operation seemed similar to those conducted by authorities in other cities before similarly high-profile events.

To be fair, he's aware of his limitations. It's not like actors are forced to be in horrible movies, it's a choice they make themselves.

I think Vampire's Kiss may be the only exception to the Law of Cage. That movie is absolutely the worst.

Cage stars in bad movies because he's incredibly broke as a result of absurd spending habits. I thought this was commonly known?

Also, taking metal lyrics seriously is stupid. If there's one genre of music that has almost uniformly bad lyrics, its heavy metal. If you listen to it for the lyrical content, you may be mentally ill. Like, I'm not even joking. I'm dead serious.

On the topic of lyrics, in contrast to the examples above, I'm asked to check out various more or less mainstream r'n'b/pop/hip-hop songs on an almost daily basis, and I'm constantly appalled by the poor, bland lyricism in this vocal- and lyric-centric music. This isn't another pop rant, nor am I saying there isn't a bunch of metal with shitty lyrics, but calling metal out for having particularly bad lyrics unusually often seems to me oddly biased and angled.

As for the cockroach issue, I don't really see the point of saving one single fucking roach either. What on earth is the point of that?

I don't spare cockroaches because they do not follow my one rule of cohabitation:

If you want to live in my home, fine, but if you get in my space, your life is forfeit via natural selection.

This is why I generally give spiders a free pass: I don't care if they hang out in the corners of my windows, because I don't really use those exact areas. And hey, if they stop other bugs from getting in, that's just cool. But cockroaches? No, they seek out my food. Bitch, that's MY food, not yours! I worked to earn the money to get that food, so there's no way in hell I'm letting a bunch of little freeloaders eat it all out from under me!

I had a pet huntsman I used to call Spence, he used to live in my lounge room and a hallway, he knew he wasn't allowed to come into the sleeping area of the house, so we had a good agreement. He was always so cheerful and friendly, he'd always put his arms out for a high five or hug every time you went near. Then he ran away after like three months of live-in bliss, and none of the other huntsmans have been as nice. I miss Spence :(

Well, you guys can live with spiders, or whatever, if you want. I, however, live following the basic principle that all bugs are without exception gross. So all of them have to find somewhere else to live.

Yeah, Nick Cage is a shit actor for sure. The only movie I remember liking him in was Raising Arizona. Haha, that's a good one. He's in some other good/decent movies but he's not particularly good in them.

EDIT: He was pretty good in Leaving Las Vegas but I could definitely see other actors doing it better.

Is the plural of huntsman spider actually huntsmen spiders? We'll need an intellectual Australian for this, and I just can't see that ever happening. This will just have to remain a mystery of the universe.

I assume it's huntsman spiders. As the actual word to be pluralized would be the spider part....wiki just calls them Sparassidae. Let's all call 'em Sperris

Jesuits are catholic male priests.

Quote:
A member of the Society of Jesus, a Roman Catholic order of priests founded by St. Ignatius Loyola, St. Francis Xavier, and others in 1534, to do missionary work. The order was zealous in opposing the Reformation. Despite periodic persecution it has retained an important influence in Catholic thought and education

To clarify, the Jesuits are a Catholic religious order.

I tend not to kill bugs unless they bother me or someone else. Spiders are okay as long as the webs can't be run into. My parents keep a clean house, and I personally sprayed poison around the foundation, so most of our bug problems are gone.

Metal generally has a limited number of topics it can reasonably delve into and not be completely ridiculous and self parodying about because of the aggressive nature of the genre. Furthermore, given that metal is, well, aggressive in form, the lyrics generally match that. If you're sitting there studiously reading liner notes for black/death metal records for the poetry contained within, you probably have serious psychological issues. Combined with metal being a very poor vehicle for introspective, deep thinking work, and you have a million rock critics who, somewhat rightly IMO, are critical of heavy metal's emotional depth.
