Virgin Steele - The Burning of Rome (Cry for Pompeii)

Far from paradise, when the winds of war are blowing freely...

The haunted keyboards combined with the simple but effective riffs and David's vocals really kills. Easily one of the best songs this band ever came up with. Fantastic.

I love the line "It's all up to Batman!" line from that song. It's just so..... OVERKILL.

Aquaria - Choice Time, off Luxaeterna

It's funny how I usually hate this type of highly symphonic, "busy" power metal, but these guys really make it work. The keyboardist in particular is fantastic. The man really knows how to use tons of different resources one after the other and not make it sound like mere bombast for the sake of it.

Listened to 3 new albums this evening.

First up was the new Unleashed. Straight up death metal, nothing terribly innovating, but entertaining!
The was Meshuggah-Koloss. I remember hearing one of their songs a few years ago and not liking it, but I decided to give them another try since they get so much positive reactions. At first I though it was too technical (not a fan of that myself), but after a while I got into a groove and started liking it. I'll have to give this some more spins!

Right now I'm listening to Soulfy's Enslaved...I didn't expect that much (I liked their previous effort though), but this is even worse than I though. Such a boring album!

Sonata Arctica - Alone in Heaven

I'm having fun. Still not as great as The Days of Grays so far, though.

Abyssic Hate: suicidal emotions
Destroyer 666: cold steal for an iron age

Funeral-When Light Will Dawn

Seriously one of the greatest doom metal songs I've ever heard. It's just perfect all around.

The Atlas Moth - Perpetual Generations

Solid stoner doom with an interesting contrast in vocals.

Hail of Bullets - Ordered Eastward

Hail of Bullets' tone really captures the intensity of war - the twisted metal, the explosions, and the tanks on the move.

So true. That song is among my favorites of theirs, as well, and fun to play on guitar. They really present a great atmosphere along with fantastic riffs, songs, interludes, and vocals. The total package.

Cattle Decapitation - Lifestalker

It's exceedingly easy to stagnate in the relatively one-dimensional field of brutal death, but Cattle Decapitation keep twisting and bending their sound in interesting ways. I'll have to add this disc to my library soon.

Pretty good post-rock/black metal. The band name is such a cliche post-rock band name. It even has a "!"
