Science, microscopy, herbarium specimens, to get a better look/more useful photo, or sometimes for dinner (Depending on the species). The reasons are various.

@ Byrain. Found this shroom documentary by Simon G. Powell you might dig. He's the author of The Psilocybin Solution. I haven't seen it yet but looks worth it.

Ummm...does anyone else see the skull embedded in the underbrush, down in the left hand corner in this? Very nice pics corpsie.

These were taken on my Nikon 12mp the other weekend. You wouldn't think I was in the middle of the biggest city in my state would you?

Thanks a lot for the comments!
I actually didn't notice the ''skull'' in the last photo before after I had taken it. I liked that photo a lot myself to.

Always a pleasure to see the Finnish woods!
Nice with the bird in the first photo, creates a great atmosphere.
And the Black/White forest pictures are always awesome!

CrushedRevelation: If I had to live in a city, that would be the place! :P
Looks great!

I really love this thread, it's a nice time-killer. It's even inspired me to take some pictures for myself today. I'll upload them at some point.

This kind of thread makes you wonder if some band would ask to use some of these picture on an album cover... Or worse, not ask. :finger:

One guy actually asked if he could use one of my photos for his album cover. I told him he could, but I never heard from him again.

Thank you for your comment Marag !

Just discovered this great thread and looking at all the cool pictures, i have to say that this is my favorite.
This building is so mysterious and creepy i can't stop looking at it, and i wonder if BasqueStorm could tell us a bit about it, where it can be found, how old it is and what it once was used for...?

Thank you very much, Chaos_Orb, but that's a quite shitty one! LOL! And thank you to all the people that post their wonderful photographs from all parts around the world! This thread is indeed GREAT and REALLY interesting!
Here you have some info about this type of building (the photograph was taken in the Leitzaran valley):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leitzaran

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baserri

Quote:
A baserri (pron. [bas̺eri]] in Basque) is a traditional type of half-timbered or stone-built farmhouse found in the Basque Country in Northern Spain and Southwestern France. The baserris, with their gently sloping roofs and entrace portals, are highly characteristic of the region and form a vital part in traditional Basque societal structures.[1] They are also seen to have played an important role in protecting the Basque language[2] in periods of persecution by providing the language with a very dispersed but substantial speaker base.

I like this one way more:

Image

But that's a little building to protect the cattle on winter.

I should have photographed the Gyromitra I found today before I picked them off the ground. A damn beautiful mushroom, the funky pufferfish of the North.

Here is a pic of an old processing plant outside Virginia City, Nevada. It's a massive complex that has been decaying since it was abandoned a few decades ago.

Inside the main complex, it's about five stories high not including the basement which I have unexplored dude to runoff from the mountains:
