Hey,

I am interested in finding some new atmospheric death metal bands.... So far, I really like one band in particular.... And they are called; Fallujah.

Does anyone else have any recommendations for this certain genre?

Don't know how it compares to Fallujah but Garden of Shadows is one of my favorite atmospheric death metal bands. Brutal vocals yet soothing guitar leads and heavy keyboard presence.

I recently asked this myself in the Death Metal rec thread and got no responses... so watching this one closely.

And for you, some recs: some of these bands are very technical, others are really primitive. Just throwing out the whole lot.

Ulcerate
Impetuous Ritual
Flourishing
Grave Upheaval
Abyssal(UK)
Muknal
Baring Teeth
Funebrarum
Stargazer

Not too familiar with Fallujah, but they seem far more entrenched in the modern Technical Death Metal sound, so you might also enjoy these, though I would not call them "atmospheric DM" : Anomalous, Beyond Creation, Archspire

Seconding StarGazer. Their music really takes you into another world. It twists and turns in so many different ways that you just don't expect and you forget that you're listening to the same piece of music.

Atmospheric is a very broad term as there are so many types of atmosphere. Most bands generate some kind of atmosphere. Not familiar with the band you mentioned or what it is about them you like but here are a list of bands that generate thick atmospheres for me that I enjoy.

Bolt Thrower, Asphyx, Hail of Bullets etc.
These bands play thick grooving death metal that makes you feel like you are entering a warzone.

Purtenance, Demigod, Depravity, Funebre, and others from the early Finnish death metal scene generate a very otherwordly atmosphere that is what I really like about that particular scene. This is largely due to the leads. Darkthrone's Soulside Journey is another great one I would recommend though from Norway.

Autopsy has a lot of uneasy and meandering riffing that gives off an uneasy atmosphere I love. Morbus Chron is a retro-death band that does this very well.

Incantation, Immolation and their numerous clones are all worth mentioning as well.

Oh and of course Gorement is some amazing doomy death.

Deathevokation's The Chalice of Ages is a modern death metal classic with it's doomy sound.

Not really death metal, more like atmospheric deathcore, but these bands seems to be thrown in the same bunch as Fallujah.

Aegaeon

As they Burn

Also, I believe you are already familiar with The Faceless, if you are not, check them out, they have the same style of guitar leads, specially in their second album.

as for faceless and bolt thrower, i wouldnt really put them in the atmospheric category....but thats my personal opinion....I find faceless is more tech death, and bolt thrower old school death/thrash.

Check out Ireland's Valediction, they play mid paced death metal which in places some of the riffs remind me of Bolt Thrower but they have a full time keyboard player that helps create a nice imo 'sci-fi' like atmosphere.

Yeah, I wouldn't do that either, but, as I said before, The Faceless seems to have the same vibe as Fallujah when it comes to atmospheric leads, so... I thought that you would enjoy them, and, Fallujah isn't really THAT atmospheric isn't it? :-P

Now for another suggestion. Aeon of Horus has some really nice atmospheric moments, technical/melodic death metal though.

Yeah, regardless of which one you think is more "atmospheric", The Faceless and Fallujah are both practically identical twins.

Anyways, for stuff like Fallujah (I personally don't think of them as atmospheric death metal, but rather technical deathcore), you could maybe try Burning the Masses's second album, Offspring of Time.

My point is that atmospheric is a very vague term and Bolt Thrower are not what people usually think of when they say atmosphere but they are very atmospheric for me with their trance inducing groove riffing that makes me feel like I am on a battlefield. And they are not oldschool death/thrash as they are not thrashy. Malevolent Creation, Thanatos, Desultory, and Revenant are some examples of oldschool death/thrash.

I have found Isis & Cult Of Luna.....Kinda not exactly death metal, but they are ambient post rock/sludge....Exactly what I was looking for, although most of these suggestions were also great and I did find some new great bands :headbang:
