I've recently discovered Before the Dawn, and love their take on melodic death metal, so I was hoping to find more bands like them. Also, concerning the electronica request, I've discovered a love for dreamy and uplifting trance a la Robert Miles' first album, and it would be fantastic if I could find more trance like the stuff he produced on his debut, Dreamland.

I hope to get some fantastic recommendations!

I know and pretty much idolise Mike Oldfield already (I have a 1st vinyl pressing of Tubular Bells which is spun frequently), but thank you for the recommendation anyway splyu!

As a note for other electronica recs, if the productions are also reminiscent of Jean Michel Jarre, that would be brilliant; though I would prefer trance.

Insomnium are absolutely incredible! I especially love the song from Above the Weeping World. And thanks for the BPC recommendation, they are exactly what I'm looking for, Midian being the best example of trance I've heard for a long time.

For future reference, I love my trance to be like this and this.

I knew Solar Fields from their work on the phenomenal Mirror's Edge soundtrack, but hadn't explored them aside from that. Thank you for the rec, very much.

If you like Oldfield and Jarre, you are probably also familiar with Vangelis already?

Four Tet

And for some melodic death, maybe you'll enjoy Eternal Tears of Sorrow.

I didn't really like Black Sun Aeon - too doomy for my taste - but I loved Ghost Brigade.

I am, but only to the extent of Chariots of Fire.

Baths and Four Tet were nice and calming, though personally nothing to write home about for me, still good though. Also, I am now in love with Eternal Tears of Sorrow. :-)

How about Words of Farewell for some melodic death metal?

Also, if you haven't heard them already, Dark Tranquillity would be right up your alley, especially Haven:

Dark tranquillity are already one of my favourite bands, and my favourite album of theirs is Damage Done. But I did really enjoy Words of Farewell, so thanks very much.

I recommend Albedo 0.39 and Spiral, the latter mostly for the awesome title track.

I've just given those 2 Vangelis songs a listen, and I can now firmly say I love Vangelis. I love the spacey feel to his music. Thanks splyu.

I wasn't a fan of the blastier parts, and the vocals were a bit lower than I like in my melodeath; but other than that, they were really cool.
