Hi,

been going around and around with a "Reign In Blood" CD I got for near free from ebay. It's only the CD, has the Def Jam logo, track listing, etc, and the matrix number is "NO 1468". Has no SID codes or anything else. It doesn't match any release on discogs and without the booklet + back cover it gets harder.

Image

The CD print seems a bit flimsy so my first ideia was that this may be a bootleg, but maybe not. Anyone else has the same release (same matrix that is) that can shed some light on this?

Yeah, looks way less cluttered than my original version, which also has the Geffen logo on it. Mine is an original as I bought it over 20 years ago. This one looks strange. Could be a later pressing as the text seems to be the same in the band name and all. Mine has track times next to the song titles too.

year and a half later and you still can't get an ID on your copy?

i guess the best you can do at this point is figure out which of the early masterings you have

if you want i can send you some samples from both my non-re1 copy and my other pre-remaster copy

i've been wanting an original for ages, all i see in my local music shop is the reissued remastered blah blah blah version with some remix of criminally insane?!
have you had a look at discogs or music sammler? NO 1468 sounds kind of suspect to me.

I recall this one has the track levels pretty close to the Japanese pressing (MVCG-14) and the waveforms are in line with the first Def Jam release. It doesn't match any of the early mastering.

Yeah, looked everywhere. I'm sort of a Discogs obsessive :)

Looks exactly like my remaster, so I guess that's what you got.

You mean the CD labeling?

What's the Matrix and catalog# on that?

(Edit:)
Don't think it's the remaster, the waveforms are pretty low, with no clipping whatsoever and with great dynamic range. I heard the remaster suffers from some compression and clipping.

Also there's a index error as "09. Postmortem" ends about 40 seconds earlier and that time is at the start of "10. Reign In Blood" and that seems to have been corrected in a later version.

More, "01. Angel of Death" start with the cymbal and goes into the riff, contrary to some editions that miss the initial cymbal.

Another thing, the fade-out with thunder on "10. Reign In Blood" lasts a full 50 seconds contrary to some editions.

There also seems to be some differences on the right channel for the guitar at the start of "03. Necrophobic", in my CD there's only on the left channel.

Someone should do a table with all the "Reign In Blood" nuances.

this is only a half truth

the non-re1 edition which is the one referred to as missing that first bit of track 1 is not actually missing it... there was a pressing error that makes the disc a real tossup on how various players will read track 1

some players will start track 1 at the correct position and nothing will be missing
many players start at a later position and the first second of the track is missing
some players will not play track 1 at all

EAC (need to test latest version to see if it still does it) skips the first second
anything that uses cdparanoia will skip the first second
dbpoweramp is the only secure mode ripper i've tested that will rip track 1 properly

Yes, you're absolutely right, the start is there but some players skip it starting on a diferent offset, 1 or 2 seconds into track 1.

Didn't know some players couldn't even play it :| If someone offers to do a table that should be there :)

Edit: oh, returning to your previous reply I noticed you were on the stevehoffman foruns also, so nothing of this is really new to you

Pretty sure it's a dubstep remix.

there's a cymbal at the start of angel of death? i had no idea. owned the CD for about 15 years now!
also the remix of criminally insane isn't a techno remix. i think there's a different drum pattern, that's about it
