If anyone knows what gear they used on Close to a World below and Providence that would be awesome.

I'm writing some material that would be incredible with Immolation's sound. All I know is that they used some 7 strings on Close to a World below, but I know nothing about the tuning of the guitars, the bass, the amps, any pedals they may have used. Of course, getting recordings similar in quality to Providence doesn't happen cheaply but that's something I'll work out later.

I'm quite sure that they played in C standard on Close to a World below, just to get you started.

Scroll down to question 17.

Getting the CTAWB sound is no small thing btw. In fact, you'll probably never get it.

Thanks guys.

Ye kingnuuuur I'll never get THAT sound, once I'm in the vicinity I'll find something most suited. For now everything is in tablature, so I need to know what equipment will allow the sound I envisioned for it, so that I can make sure any prospective recording artists have the right goods.

EDIT: That link is very informative and rings true, but from what he's mentioned about amps and gear it is already more clear how they attain that vintage, organic(almost muddy), humongous sound.

i did a five song demo thing that's unreleased that practically everyone has told me is sucking off immolation, anyway what I'm saying it's a bit more in the way you play and layer your riffs than the actual equipment. I tuned to A standard and used my ampeg ss150.

I have a good hunch Vigna's used active EMGs on his guitar for CTAWB. The tone is just so compressed and bright. I wouldn't even call it vintage or organic.
