Hey, any recommendations on some black metal/blackgaze/whatever focusing on a nautical, foggy atmosphere? Something such as http://decemberapparition.bandcamp.com/

You familiar with Velvet Cacoon and the band they went on to be after, Clair Cassis. Both bands seem to fit what you are looking for especially Velvet Cacoon, can get really foggy!

If you don't mind symphonic bm, I'd also recommend Carach Angren's Death came through a phantom ship: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUjzEElQs10 and maybe their latest, but I haven't heard it yet.

ALESTORM ALESTORM ALESTORM

Anyway, Kraken Duumvirate. They even have the haunting kind of atmosphere that December Apparition seems to have. Or if you want something a little more ethereal than haunting, "Lemuria" by Therion has an aquatic sort of atmosphere to it.

Here is a link to my eyesore signature. I hope this new one will not offend those who read metal's sacred texts.

thanks for all the recommendations! I loved the Carach Angren song, Kraken Duumvirate, and also to the first person who replied: CC and VC are probably my favorite two bands in the genre

I've been searching for similar bands to Velvet Cacoon for a while, a couple that haven't been mentioned are Necktarium and Sleeping Peonies.

This maybe? Just discovered this project awhile back, pretty solid ambient BM. Bit of nautic vibe, beautiful piano intro as well.

Try out Snörkel, a group of uber-unknown ocean-themed black metallers:

As for "foggy", I figure this is the foggiest of them all:
