in the introduction it says "Despite their relative popularity now, Beherit were generally hated by the black metal community in the early nineties, in fact there was a Scandinavian band made in response to them called "Fuck Beherit" (who released 2 rehearsal tapes in 1992) A bootleg CD-R of these recordings is floating "

question is simple, why was it hated ?? ??

Kinda like Hellhammer, Beherit were just a bunch of kids making sloppy noise. It's pretty love or hate music really.

Never hated the band's music, it just isn't anywhere near effective as some of the bands they'd inspire. They have a lot of good songs, but I could never sit through an album without it becoming background music.

Thing is, Suicide Silence actually are more sonically massive than a good 95% of all the death metal bands in the Archives! Not metal, sure, but definitely a lot more brutal.

Part of the appeal of Drawing Down The Moon to me is that it has the vibe of dark ambient albums.

There was a spat between the Finnish and the Norwegian BM scene back then. This was evident in a lot of the shit slinging happening in zine interviews. Also, have a look inside your copy of Impaled Nazarene's "Tol Cormpt Norz Norz Norz...", it states, with regards to contacting the band and ordering demo/7" material "No Orders From Norway Accepted!!", though Norway is spelled Normay.

*Edit
Just had a look, it's not actually inside the CD's insert, but on the back, below the track listings, in big red letters, followed by a dozen or so exclamation points.

Hard to see, but here it is-

Yeah, it was something along these lines, from what I remember Euronymous and co labelled the likes of Beherit as 'false' and 'not true' to the black metal scene he was moulding in Norway, I think there was a lot of hate mail and threats going back and forth at the time.

Edit -read this interview and it might shed a bit of light on the subject -

H418ov21.C is easy to hate, and that album is the only one I really know from Beherit but it was released in 94 so Euronymous couldn't have heard it. Interestingly enough, Satanic Warmaster covered the song "Fish" off of that album - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4pRnDSeA7k

This was because (someone from) Impaled Nazarene was prank called by Beherit who pretended to be some Norwegian black metallers. It also says in the booklet (or was it also in the back?) "kuolema Norjan kusipäille", again with several exclamation marks, which means "death to the Norwegian assholes". So it was Beherit who trolled them.

Yup, do to the fact that Beherit added death metal elements. And we all know how Euronymous felt about death metal...
