For me, it's gotta be Sentenced's Shadows of the Past. Sorry, I'm just not willing to pay $100+ for the original. I've been bidding on and off over a year for this album.

what about you guys?

when I say most difficult metal CD to get a hold of, it could mean because it's way too expensive, or there just aren't enough copies floating around.

For a while on Amazon, Rapture's Songs For The Withering cost about $100.

Objectively, the most logical answer would be "some black metal band who released five copies of their demo twenty years ago in a part of the world where practically no one lives, and disappeared immediately afterwards", but with my interests into consideration instead of the most obvious answer, I'd say that Dripping's Disintegration of Thought Patterns During a Synthetic Mind Travelling Bliss is a pretty damn rare album. I haven't seen a copy pop up online since I first became aware of it, whch was years ago.

Really? Interesting, I have that and never once thought about it being hard to come by. Think I picked it up for like £2 when Golden Lake had a huge stock sell off years and years ago.

For me, the hardest to come by are

Bloodstone - Hour of The Gate (Burn Records)
Morpheus - Son of Hypnos (Step One)
Internal Decay - A Forgotten Dream (Euro Records)
Excruciate - Passage of Life (Thrash Records)

You get quite a few bootlegs of certain titles floating, but these are some which never seem to go for much under £100 whenever they appear (or much under £250, in the case of Bloodstone).

I don't buy CD's often, but I love finding out peoples white wales so I say my vinyl choices. Been trying to find a decently priced copy of Bongzilla's Gateway forever. Recently got Necroticism from Carcass so I can cross that off my list. Other than that, I really want that purple sparkle Electric Wizard - Come My Fanatics LP. Gahhh, so much vinyl is unbelievably overpriced, but that's what limited pressings do.

Bloodstone went for $393 last week, it'll be a while before I get that one haha.

This is such a silly thread. So many factors play into the 'difficult to get a hold of' that's it's not even worth mentioning.

As far as albums that had commercial releases, the one I've been having the most trouble finding is the (only) CD by Elfsword (Rus), the predecessor of Rodosvet. I know the CD is out there because I've seen one or two people list it among their collection, but I've never seen one for sale at any price and I'm always looking for it.

Oh so much this.

Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats - Vol. 1 is impossible to find a good quality download of, let alone a physical copy. The vinyl of their second album (Blood Lust) goes for almost £1000 on ebay as well...

The most difficult metal CD to get a hold of is the one you can never find for sale, anywhere, no matter how much you search. Stuff like the aforementioned album, Under Moonlight Sadness' Geneticsis, Chemical Breath's Fatal Exposure...

The rest are just plain expensive, but hard to get? I'd say the ones above!

Folks on this forum have been watching this type of stuff for a few years, you can entertain yourself for a few hours reading this thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=34600

Sororicide's "The Entity" is probably the hardest to find, because many copies of it were destroyed - Vlad Tepes' tape on FMP was in a similar situation with many of them being lost before demand picked up a long time later. The highly desirable rarities often had no exposure early on, thus limited production, but the music was made available many years later with the internet and that's when people started finding out about them. Geographic barriers were a big part of this, and the mystique factor of older things makes them more desirable these day.

The original pressing of the first Odroerir album is difficult to find, too, because many copies of it were lost when the head of the label (Ars Metalli) closed the label suddenly and fell off the face of the earth. The band later reissued it on their own, but it's still not an easy one to find. I was fortunate enough to find a good used copy of it, but that was the only time I ever saw it for sale.

Right now I think to get a true Burzum DSP copy is really hard, especially from the S/T and Aske. The bootlegging of those have been so rampant and getting more and more closer in quality from the originals that you can't just be sure of what you're buying. I've got my copy of the S/T in late 90's from a trustable source.

Probably one of the most ridiculous things to try to get it's the Falkenbach - 1989 Havamal original demo. 9 copies.

That Sororicide album isn't that good to be that expensive to begin with.

I've never been able to get a hold of Dawn's Slaughtersun album, everywhere I've seen it stocked for has had it for over £60 - and it goes very quickly.

I saw it in eBay at $30 like 2-3 weeks ago. I would pay gladly $30 and looks like the album appears from time to time.

There are two albums in particular that are at the top of my list. Those are:

Sororicide - The Entity

and

Antropomorphia - Necromantic Love Songs

These are both in need of a reissue. I've seen Sororicide on eBay a few times and I almost won an auction for it about 6 months ago. However, I have NEVER seen Antropomorphia for sale on CD. They did reissue it on vinyl though.

Agreed. Perhaps they can package it together with their Providence EP. That one is pretty tough to find too. I want it, but copies usually sell on Ebay for about $20. Yes, I know there is a free download of it, but I want a physical copy.

For me, Powermad's Absolute Power was extremely difficult to find a copy of for a decent price, but I found one last year. Same for Malevolent Creation's Retribution album. Hell, all of their early 90s Roadrunner albums are tough to find. They should reissue those albums ASAP!

For more recent stuff, Frightmare's Bringing Back the Bloodshed is fucking hard to find. I can't find that fucker anywhere! Most other shit is just way too expensive for buying, but this album I just can't find anywhere.

This was stolen out of my car about 3 years ago and I was so fucking pissed. I love this album so much. I still have the case/cover art, but no CD.

Nightingale - Nightfall Overture

I had the misfortune of becoming a fan of the band well after this went deep out of print. It screams for a reissue. Finding it for a decent price is absolutely out of the question, but just finding it period takes an unholy amount of persistence and luck, in my experience. And the one time I DID find a copy, it was a "false positive" where the seller thought he had it but didn't.

Heh, really? I scored it for around $10 a few years back.
I also managed to get a copy of their Sorgh Pa Svarte Vingar Flog EP as a last-minute bid for around $5 (probs a bootleg, but amazing quality nonetheless). And it's a real shame it's out of print and becoming rare, because it's a FUCKING GREAT album. Top 5 in that style, perhaps top 2.

about a month ago I found a new sealed copy of retribution at a shop in Poland. Cost only $9 USD + shipping $6. Granted it was 2002 or 03 release from metal mind, I feel very lucky...

I agree with you on this for a big part, but sometimes you can find "Brutal Exposure" from Chemical Breath on Ebay, their second album "Values" is really hard to get... so if anybody on this forum has the cd "Values" from Chemical Breath; I really want to buy it from you, only if the price is right of course!

Well, most of the mentioned albums are pretty easy to find, such as the old DSP CDs, Excruciate, Sentenced, Disastrous Murmur and others, the are just really expensive but not hard to get.
So this makes the difference for me if an album is really "rare" which means no seller on Amazon, Discogs, Ebay or any other forum has it available and not CDs that go regularly anywhere just for insane prices.

And another vote for Sororicide "The Entity". Beware of "homemade" copies of it that pop up once or twice a year on eBay.

And whoever said that Dawn "Slaughtersun" is hard to find is prolly not looking hard enough. Its on eBay at least once or twice per month and goes anywhere for
$40-$60. No big deal really for out of print quality album.

Also, this one is an on-the-fence example, but Machinae Supremacy - Redeemer, the Underground edition. Because once in a very blue moon, the band WILL list it on their webshop (that's how I got my copy) until it sells out, at which point...good luck catching any whiff of it, anywhere.

Edit: But when the band did re-list it, it was at the price of a regular CD. So if you're going through official channels rather than some back-alley Paypal deal with some guy selling from his personal collection, this is the unusual example of a CD that's rare as all hell, but not a bank-breaker at all when you do find it.
