How is the Paniopticon/Skagos split? I've heard most of Skagos' other releases, but haven't gotten around to this one yet.

It's fantastic! If you like other Skagos I'm sure you'll like this as well, maybe even more so, although I have yet to hear Ast from start to finish in its entirety (just ordered it as well) so I can't rightfully compare them. There are currently three very favorable reviews for it which I recommend checking out that say it better than I can in this post.

Bought the first two Morbid Angel albums, in very clean and mint condition for $5 each. Very good and even had a few DVD's inside of the cases.

The sleeve one. Apparently it's a "mini lp" re-release through Caroline back in 2008.
Never really listened to Exodus so this was my first album purchase from them and I really liked it!

Storm Corrosion-S/T

I had pre-ordered the limited edition collector's bundle, which includes the 2LP, CD, and 5.1 Blu-Ray versions of the album, as well as two posters (with one of them singed by Akerfeldt & Wilson). I only cared about the LP and Blu-Ray (CDs are largely useless for me these days), and this bundle was a cost effective means of getting both (the CD and posters are "bonus" items for me). Yesterday, I got an email from Roadrunner saying there would be a delay in shipping the bundle-something to do with the signed poster-and they were giving a digital version as a compensatory measure with the physical versions shipping next week. So I downloaded the album for my iPod while waiting for the vinyl bundle to ship. This morning I got a shipment notice for my physical version, so I think this counts for the purpose of this thread.

Adelain is one of my favorites, but I must admit that I have not payed that much attention to the later albums. I've listened to all of them and the debut is the one that stood out. Last time I listened to the others was on shitty dubbed tapes though, so I might be wrong on this one :-P

...Oh wow. I mean I like In the Shadows, probably more than most Mercyful Fate fans, but it still doesn't hold the shadow of a candle to Melissa or Don't Break the Oath. You owe it to yourself to get those as soon as possible. The Old Oak is my favorite song from In The Shadows by far...

Yeah, I actually recently listened to the B-S album for the first time, and it's definitely one of their best, despite being rather different in style. My favorite has always been either Starfire... or Battle Magic, but the debut might become the next best IMO after some more listens.

Latest haul came in the mail today. Fucking pumped!

New CDs:

Ulcerate - Of Fracture and Failure
Ulcerate - Everything is Fire
The Meads of Asphodel - The Murder of Jesus the Jew
Mitochondrion - Archaeaeon
Portal - Outre'
Akercocke - Words That GO Unspoken, Deeds That Go Undone

New stuff from the last days.

Image

Unfortunately "Dark Space III" has a scratch and skips on the last couple of minutes of the last track. Still uncertain if I'll return it or try some polish, it was cheap anyway. The scratch doesn't seem deep but I never tried polishing a black disc and previous tries had mixed results, well, it only gets better with practice. Brings to mind this same CD that someone on the forum, in another I thread I don't recall, bought and arrived completely scratched but still played, go guess :)

Me too when I saw it on the 5 euros bin. It ended up being the reissue, cheap and as new, nice as I didn't have it anyway.

How does it sound? I've only listened to the video track and it wasn't my cup of tea. I thought the video was excellent, but as a standalone song I didn't think I could enjoy it. Is the rest of the album consistent with the vibe of that track, or does it deviate?

It's odd. I've listened 3 times thus far and I can't quite grasp it, but I have a feeling that it also needs a lot of listens before it fully sinks in. I think the 5.1 is gonna assist with that as well

As for how it sounds relating to the "Drag Ropes" pre-release video, I would say that it is both very and not very consistent with that tune, if that makes any sense. There's like one 1 minute part where it could be remotely described as "rocking" throughout the entire runtime, and there's maybe three sections where there is actual drumming. The vast majority of this record is vocal/acoustic guitar/mellotron/strings driven, with some sparse clean electrics guitars/piano/light percussion. It's so fucking hard to describe  . I'd say mellower 70s Crimson (stuff like "I Talk To The Wind" or "Moonchild"-including the esoteric vibraphone bits) are also good references (makes sense given SW's involvement in the remix/reissue campaign).

I'd say definitely try before you buy. My first impressions are a confused favorable, but I have a feeling it will be astounding once I absorb all the layers.
