Hey guys, I thought this would kind of be a cool idea if we made a thread where people get recs based on their tastes from actual people rather than the robotic feature on Last.fm which isn't always accurate. It can be bands that are similar to the listener's top bands or something completely different. Anyway, let's see if we can keep this going without any arguing or anything. So here is mine: www.last.fm/user/esotericsurgery

The robotic automated thing is really cool, I got into a ridiculous amount of the music I listen to now because of it.

Well I saw you like Slayer which reminds me of Alcoholocaust, a Mexican thrash metal band who are obviously influenced. And demolition hammer reminds me of Attomica a Brazilian thrash metal band, probably only because I discovered them both on a thrash binge at the same time. From Entombed I reccomend Merciless, another early swe-death band.

Also you have no female fronted music that I can see. Maybe try Mandylion by the gathering. Kind of doomy, possibly gothic, but predates all the flowery sugary stuff. It actually has riffs! And the musicians are competent enough they don't have to hide behind Anneke's frankly excellent vocals, there is a point with about 12-13 minutes of instrumental that is pretty kick ass. They lost their metal roots 2 albums after this one, but I like them a lot, each album is different. Don't know if you like it, but you said something completely different, so yeah.

Here's my last fm presented for ridicule. http://www.last.fm/user/johngebreadman

Yeah the recs from Last.fm aren't bad but I'm just saying it'd be cool to get recs from people.

Anyway as for you taste, I see you like Autopsy, Entombed, Repulsion and to a lesser degree, Carcass. So from there I'd tell you to check out Exhumed. Great goregrind band with plenty of death metal influence. I'd say start with their new album and work backward. All their material is great but their best is their 2000 album Slaughtercult with their newest one All Guts, No Glory in a close second.

Based on the fact that you like Suffocation I'm going to recommend Defeated Sanity. It's basically everything Suffocation did taken to the next level in terms of the low vocals, breakdowns (non-core), blast beats, etc. They have a pretty small discography so I'll let you decide where to start.

And just going by the fact their not on your list, listen to the band Disembowelment's only album Transcendence Into the Peripheral. I don't really want to say anything more about it to not ruin any surprises.

Looks like we've got similar tastes for grind and I'm also a huge Psudoku/Parlamentarisk Sodomi fanboy. Have you heard Enemies of Inertia? It's not exactly obscure being as Dorian from Noisear and Bryan from Noisear and damn near every bigtime grind band going act make up half the roster but they make some pretty ripping techy grind. Material's limited but highly reccomended. Also have you heard Defeatist?

You like Immolation - Unholy Cult and Close To A World Below. Based on this I'd recommend Drawn And Quartered, Destroying Divinity and Azarath.

I know Drawn and Quartered and Azarath but Destroying Divinity is new to me. Sound great, I dig the weird angular riffing and that lead near the end is very Vigna-esque. Thanks for the tip

Okay, first off, I only scrobble stuff from my CD/tape collection, which I've only been building for about two years now, so I'm probably aware of the more well-known bands (especially those associated with black and/or death metal) you might rec - for example, Incantation and Mitochondrion aren't in my library but I am perfectly aware of their existence. If you're going to recommend something, make sure it's relatively obscure.

With that out of the way, feel free to rec anything you want, genre notwithstanding - link's in my sig.

HeySharpshooter: aren't you quite knowleadgeable in black metal, or do I mistake you for another user? If you are, recommend me some black.

reven, have you not listened to Intestine Baalism by choice, or haven't you heard of them? You like Insomnium and have some regular dm in your charts. IB combines Swedish-tinged OSDM with melodic death very tastefully on debut "An Anatomy of the Beast".

I actually have their newest album on my computer but I still need to listen to it. I loved what I've heard from them on youtube, they have a thing for awesome melodic riffs. I might as well check out the rest of their discography, thanks for the rec!

I've found that Last.fm is pretty useful for getting/solidifying Rec's, especially if you listen to many artists in a specific genre/country. For example, I'm a huge melodic black/death fan, so I've been getting more and more rec's from what I like more. So, I particuallarly like Swedish Black/Death, so it reccomends me Swedish Black/Death, and not say, German.

Edit: Also, feel free to look at my recently listened tunes, and recomend based on that.

Here's my Last.Fm for supply if you're into the above: http://www.last.fm/user/akorosmarkov

I don't know if you are mistaking me for another user, but yeah I know a bit of Black Metal. That's a pretty wide group though... what kind of Black Metal do you like?

I did post my Last.fm didn't I. :D

http://www.last.fm/user/Sarguer

Vitsaus is not well represented in my charts (there are others that aren't, but Vitsaus most notably I think, and Walknut). I very much like both the full-length and the compilation of demos I have.

Verge and Elimi are fairly recent discoveries for me, so they don't yet have so many scrobbles. Horna - Liekki Ja Voima is probably my favourite black song ever, and Gorgoroth's Antichrist is my favourite of the second wave classics.

@Ilwhyan:

Horna, Sargiest, Behexen... so you like your stuff raw and grim huh? Awesome, because that is how I like my stuff too:

Cornigr: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8nlW7mTp70
One man Black Metal project of Vainaja(a name you should know well). In the same vein as Horna, Behexen etc.

Odz Manouk: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HrGEZTF6dQ
IMO, Odz Manouk are the best Black Metal band in the United States right now, and one of the big dogs in The Black Twilight Circle(sort of a US LLN, although I much prefer the BTC). I will mark BTC bands accordingly.

GGUW: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASV878l_Glc
Amazing, bleak, soul crushing Black Metal from Germany. Unfortunately, this is the only release we will get from GGUW... Also, the video is of the whole EP.

Witch In Her Tomb: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLRmFItlFDY
Brilliant, crusty Darkthrone-style Black Metal from the US. The band just released their demo this year, and it's free on Bandcamp.

Axis of Light: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1c-mgN_unu4
Another band who just released their demo this year. Fantastic, skin peeling Raw Black Metal from England.

Tukaaria: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7ideGqd9y8
BTC. Just raw, nasty Black Metal from the US. Their split with Odz Manouk is nothing short of perfect.

Glossolalia: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsneVHKudOI
BTC. Sounds like Odz Manouk, though not quite as good.

Blut Der Nacht: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GAw_5CA4k8
True as fuck Raw Black Metal from the United States.

Wylve: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFFiJLBHSyk
Raw shit from the US, featuring members of Blut Der Nacht.

Cultes Des Ghoules: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssNx_Ec1 ... re=related
Some really raw, nasty shit from Poland, with some minor Bestial Black Metal elements.

@693: I see you like some weird/proggy stuff like fantomas, mars volta, neurosis, so you could try Combat Astronomy (though in my opinion, so should anyone ;)). Excellent industrial doomy jazzy... music.
