I've only listened to one Nile album, Annihilation of the Wicked. It wasn't bad at all, but it didn't inspire me to grab the rest of their stuff either. I'll check out the preview tracks on this one, though.

I suggest you to listen some of the first three albums, which are all masterpieces of Egyptian inspired death metal. Everything after that is just half-assed/boring technical death metal with just few songs as exception.

The album cover is awesome, so now my hope is that they will add some beautiful egyptian tunes to their compositions, hopefully long and epic compositions.

There should be a fiction section of these forums for posts like this one I have quoted.

I enjoy all of Nile's albums, but the production on the last one was a bit too much for me. I don't want to sound like I only enjoy shitty production, but in my opinion, the first few albums' production was way more fitting than their recent release. I doubt this album will go back to the sound of the early ones, but hopefully it won't be ruined for me.

The first one had grit in its production without losing the crunch of the guitars, but I always felt like Black Seeds' production was a touch too muddy for me. I like my Sanders riffs like I like my Sanders chicken: crunchy, meaty and well-defined.

Cover looks cool. I hope it's more like Ithyphallic. Last one was dull and boring.

Dunno, that's probably their best material.

I dont understand why Black Seeds has an average of 60% on the MA, it is one of their best album, there is some pretty killer songs on it like Masturbating the War God, Defiling the Gate of Ishtar, To Dream of Ur, etc.

Because kids don't like the murky production.

Once you get past that, the riffing and the drum work is incredible.

I just re-listened to Black Seeds of Vengeance after a few years of absence and I honestly don't hear the complaints about the production.. it certainly does not hinder the song writing at all. To this day I think In Their Darkened Shrines has excellent production, the bass on that record shook the 6x9 speakers out of their casings in my old car way back.. that was awesome.

That'd be my guess.

Death metal has to sound like Inhuman Rampage to get props.

Not at all - Death Metal should sound like early Morbid Angel, Obituary, Dismember or Entombed to get props. Not this over-the-top "brutal" noisy shit that has no enjoyable elements. Production is immaterial. The first 4 MA albums have ridiculously muddy production, and they're some of the best ever. Nile just plain sucks and this "race to be brutal" that modern death metal bands have can go to buggery.

edit: that being said, I enjoy a couple of older Nile tracks, but they lose me by Black Seeds. I remember getting it on CD when it came out and wondering why anyone would bother with such unlistenable garbage.

Death metal "shouldn't" sound like anything, especially when such an ideal is based on the individual tastes of exactly one person.

oh for crying out loud, you know what i mean. If death metal "shouldn't" sound like anything, then next time i accidentally knock over a heap of pans in the kitchen that's gonna be death metal too. as long as the intention is there, right?

I haven't found MA to be that muddy myself. I'll take Nile over Morbid Angel any day though. With the exception of Altars Of Madness obviously. That album is near untouchable.

Also there are plenty of brutal bands doing it right. It's just the over produced, triggered stuff that gives the genre a bad rep.

As long as they're old-school pans that have a muddy sound, but it better not be too over-the-top and noisy, or I won't give you any props.

They're claiming that their drumming style on this album excels all of their old ones and that it's fast, technical and progressive...

IF KOLIAS WASN'T TECHNICAL ENOUGH, THIS IS GOING TO SHIT MY EARS (in a positive way)

The riffing was mostly okay, the drums sounded good when they were blasting but there were too many retarded fills (even for Nile) and I absolutely hated some of those vocals. Maybe it's cause I haven't listened to Nile in a while, but it's not looking good.

Something about the production throws me off it, sounds too thin and flat for death metal.

The music and production are pretty solid, but is what is going on with the vocals? I think Sanders said that their new bassist would be doing some vocals on the record. Hopefully these aren't gonna be all over every track.

edit- from blabbermouth when Sanders was asked about guest vocals.

"Jon Vesano is all over this record. (Our former singer and bass guitarist who we're still good friends with.) Jon did some guest vocals on "Those Whom The Gods Detest" and it made us realize all over again all the things we really liked about Jon's vocals. We wanted to incorporate some of his insanity."

Hmm. We'll see I suppose.

Man does that production job stink. What the hell was Neil Kernon smoking? These guys have to be one of the most inconsistent bands out there when it comes to solid, crystal clear production jobs. They go from AOTW (good production) to Ithyphallic (muddy production) to TWTGD (good production) and now back to muddy production.

As another user pointed out, I like my Sanders riffs crispy and crunchy clear.

Thanks!
I REALLY like the first part of the song BUT the vocals ruin it for me from the middle on.
Let's wait one month.

Am I the only one who believes the best production Nile ever had was the debut's? Or the best everything, for that matter.

Well, yeah, there's that issue..... But it's just that Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka's production is so bloody death metal that I can't help loving it.

no. . . no the debut was inferior to Black Seeds of Vengeance.
and that song is growing on me now, I've had it on repeat on my iPod for quite a while now.

I think the new song is amazing. The new bassist is not on this track, the cleanish vocals are Karl, the "I will erase you" parts are Mike Breazle. I thin people are being a bit thrown off because it doesn't stick to the typical Nile formula, having no solo and no Dallas vocals. I think this is an amazing change of direction.
