Any thoughts about the new album?

The first song available is more 'heavier' than his other solo work, it is a classical SOAD song. I prefer his solo carrier more on experimental rock, Elect the Dead (Symphony) is great.

I'd prefer SOAD to just make a new album

it sounds like serj has lost the edge he had with his vocals with soad and elect the dead. these vocals just seemed a little boring to me, didnt have the dead raising rush that you'd expect

Yeah, but god knows if thats ever happening.

I thought his first solo album was good enough, solid SOAD sounding stuff. His second album should have been amazing, with the symphony and whatnot, but somehow it was boring. This song had some cool parts like the bridge with the bass and the solo, but on the whole it is a bit too weird for me. They should just get their shit together and make another SOAD album, that Scars on Broadway band suck and Achozen only has like 2 (albeit very cool) songs. None of their solo/side projects/ new bands are going to be as good as System.

Meh, this isn't what I want to be hearing from Serj. Pretty dumb, actually. Why can't SOAD just get their shit together and put out more music is what I'd like to know.

I think it's better than Imperfect Harmonies and closer to Elect the Dead in terms of sound but it is far from a classical SOAD song, I think you are reaching there. I liked Elect the Dead, I thought it was good apart from a few songs, so I'm pleased Figure It Out is in the same vein. I couldn't be fucked with that "symphony" album, I heard a few songs and it sounded like unnecessary shit. I thought Imperfect Harmonies was generally unlistenable, like Serj seriously needed someone to tell him an opposing opinion, someone to fine tune his craziness, because what is left on that album is unmemorable, annoying, pretentious nonsense. I believe Scars on Broadway is closer to SOAD's later sound, their 2008 album is enjoyable, my only complaint being that their songs are too repetitive and self restricted/ lazy. I do wish I could be positive about Serj Tankian's latest effort but it's mostly been a nosedive since Hypnotize.

Uhm yeah, this is just boring. I liked his first two, but this is just lame. Background guitars that do nothing and Serj just wailing, but without conviction.

Also, the lyricism on this seems really lazy. "The CEOs are the disease" type thing, just really seems really stale and recycled, hes written lyrics like that (but better) 100 times before, a little variety wouldn't kill him. It kind of bugs me when bands feel the need to make nearly 100% of their songs political, it just seems like they're shoving it down your throat.

Reminds me of the late days of Rage Against The Machine where they want really to fight the government against this and that. I really like System but this one sounds kinda empty.

I know that he is taking his inspiration of the latest occupy wall street and the bailouts and the recession as his inspiration. I think when you spend a year writing an album and its kinda empty and crappy you cant really delay it and might as well release it and make some money. I was reading about My bloody Valentine and their album that cost half a million to make because they wanted a certain sound and bring it to perfection. Some times you release an album that is far from perfection but somewhat pays your bills.

I haven't heard this new track yet, but I do rate Serj pretty highly. Elect The Dead Symphony was by far my most listened to album of 2010, and most watched DVD. Very glad he decided to include Gate 21 in that concert - that rendition is the cat's meow, and I doubt I'll ever get sick of watching/hearing it.

Anyway time to go check out his new shit.

That sounded... surprisingly metal. o_O It'd be weird if Serj Tankian got on the Metal Archives with this album.

Anyways, yeah, it is a bit disappointing considering the level of eccentricity that his works have had up until now, but it's not horrible or boring by any means.

What a lazy song. From the music to the lyrics to the message, this song is just awful.

It just sounds like a really crappy SOAD song. I don't know why they get so much critical acclaim, especially in the metal community. They often come across as a joke band, where songs will jump around from a heavy riff into some squeedly guitar wanking. The vocal performances are even harder to take seriously. There will be some really bad screams, then some goofy falsetto singing, almost as though they are trying to reinforce the stereotype that rock/metal vocalists are talentless hacks.

Just never understood the appeal of Serj or SOAD.

More SOAD please.
