Indeed, i played SH2 on pc for a while few years ago, looked so much better than PS2 version. And so, because Konami decided to release a shitty HD port of both games, i decided to steal both of them for pc from internet. Planning to start them soon.

If you dig around a bit, there's some nice widescreen and 1080p hacks for those versions that make them look even better.

I honestly thought it was horrible. Average FPS gameplay, extreme repetition, awful writing, poor graphics (on PC). Stopped midway through and never looked back.

I started New Vegas again, for the first time since 2010. Brother gave me the disc with the DLC on it. Having fun so far, although I'm sure it has it's fair share of haters here!

Haven't tried any of the DLC yet, but I have found the entrance for The Lonesome Road. I'm happy doing all the vanilla game stuff to get my sneak/small guns/melee/speech build leveled up.

I always find it extremely weird when people complain that an Id shooter isn't anything more than, well, shooting. Comparatively, this is Id's most varied game, since it offers up driving sequences, too, and you're not always following a strict corridor.

Extreme repetition? Do you know who developed this game? If anything, the AI reacts so spontaneously to you, that you have to vary up your tactics. And why wouldn't you? You're given explosives, wingsticks, a bunch of different ammo types for different encounters and schematics to build turrets and bots. You can pretty much play the game how you want to. It's no roleplaying shooter, but it isn't trying to be.

Awful writing? The writing is fine. Once again, since it's an Id game, it has a simple setup and is just a reason for you to shoot the shit out of the bad guys. I do agree the ending isn't that great, because it feels like maybe a couple more areas, a boss fight and an epilogue cutscene were missing to wrap everything up. But, you wouldn't know anything about that since you never finished it.

The graphics are fine. A lot of concessions had to be made to be able to make the game run at a super smooth sixty frames. Especially on consoles, since I'm pretty sure this has never been done before, or at least never been done while looking this good, that is quite an achievement, and I will take those concessions if that means I don't have to deal with a shitty framerate.

Like I said, I find it weird and funny that people complain an Id shooter is an Id shooter.

I was anti all post-apocalyptic FPS games for a long time. New Vegas changed that. I had a lot of fun, but I'm an old-timer gaming wise. The most recent game I invested any amount of time into before Vegas was Oblivion nearly six years ago.

I have no complaints, really enjoyed it. Although I had to take a break after about 40 hours when I hit The Strip and it got really fetch quest heavy. Went back to it and finished it at about 50 hours. Great game all around.

Fallout 3 was solid after the first gruesome 10 hours, at times I thought it had better dungeons/atmosphere than NV, but yeah. Overall NV is still way better in my book, story wise, it had the factions, all the Vaults were amazing (they were terrible in 3), good dialogue, etc.

minor Legend of Grimrock spoilers ahead:
Spoiler: show
Holy crap, I just found out what the bone amulet is for in Legend of Grimrock.
I love it when I have a hunch something might be important, like the developers didn't just put a seemingly useless item there for nothing, and being right on the money in the end.

I've rarely seen riddles and puzzles this good, they've found that balance where the clues are not immediatly obvious, but like a good cryptic crossword puzzle, just letting your mind wander on it naturally leads you to the solution.

And then right after all the puzzle solving, they put a charging ogre at the end of a long single tile hallway to completely catch you off guard and wake you right back up, now that's pacing.
this game really is incredibly awesome, I couldn't get bored even if I tried. (I don't know how or why I would go about trying to be bored, but the point is, it wouldn't work)

I've consulted the internet for some of the puzzles. I guess I enjoy the combat and exploration more than the puzzle solving.

Huh. I never really had any big problems with it. Sure, finding your way in the Bonehoard and in the ancient ruins was a bit difficult, but I never actually got stuck. Sometimes just used a lot of time trying to figure out whether I can access this place or not.

Yes! A game as unbalanced (or maybe that's one of its major draws), old and buggy as this and with as poor an AI as this, and yet it's still by far the best fantasy-themed 4X game (or well, there's Fall from Heaven mod for Civ4, but even that's very limited in comparison) and I've never had a computer that didn't have it tucked away somewhere. The poor AI and imbalance are probably because of its major draw though: That you have so many different options on what to do. Balancing all of that and making the AI aware and able to use and counter all of those would be an enormous task.

Bought this a while ago, but haven't had a chance to try yet due to work keeping me busy. Very encouraging comments though.

Just completed Kotor 1, i went light side up until the end when i decided to go dark and join Bastila in defeating Malak, being dark in Star Wars is always alot more satisfying than light

I recently bought Suikoden IV for the PS2. I've seen a lot of bad reviews about this game, but hey, for $5, why pass it up. I've yet to actually play it. I'm big into the Shin Megami Tensei games on the PS2. Any opinions on Suikoden IV or anything for me to expect before I play it?

I've played through Suikoden IV twice, once without a guide and one with.
I probably missed half the game playing without a guide, I thought it was short and shallow, but then playing it with a guide and getting all the characters and stuff I actually really liked it. It's not on par with 1,2 or 5 but it's a slightly above average JRPG.
Suikoden Tactis I've never finished though, I like that kind of turn based tactical game but damn it is slow.

Not much is gonna be on par with Suikoden 2. One of the best RPGs out there. I bought Suikoden 3 last year but didn't get that far. It lost a lot of it's charm with the blocky 3D graphics, but I still enjoyed what I played of it.

Anyone into the Shin Megami Tensei games? Strange Journey is a cool little dungeon crawler, pretty difficult too.

Hell yeah. The PS2 is home to the best SMT games. Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2, Persona 3 and 4, Nocturne, and Devil Summoner. I haven't played Devil Summoner, but the other 5 I highly recommend. Nocturne is really hard, but it is one of the most fun. Digital Devil Saga 1 is a great game to start on. Persona 4 is my favorite game of all time. But to answer your question, yes.

I've beaten Persona 1 and 2 on PSP. Good lord, Persona 1 has a bad soundtrack. Persona 2 is too easy, but the occultish story is really cool. I also have Persona 3 and Nocturne, but stopped playing them for some reason. Bad habit of starting games, getting so far and moving on to another. Right now I'm going through Uncharted 2.

SMT Digital Devil Saga 1-2 and Nocturne recently got a reprint, get them off Amazon for $20 each now while you can. I grabbed them all, definitely looking forward to checking them out. Probably a lot of other PS2 JRPG's I need to uncover that I missed out on. I always hear good things about the Shadow Hearts series too.

Fatal Frame 1-3 also got a reprint.

After playing the game for about ten-years, I've finally discovered the awesomeness of playing multi-player on Total Annihilation, and have actually got someone else interested enough in the game to play it. What's more, there's an unofficial but awesome patch just out which makes it run really smoothly.

Anyone else a Total Annihilation fan?

TA is a great RTS, one of my favourites. Used to play it a lot with some buddies of mine years and years ago. Surprised multiplayer still works.

Restarted Rage because I didn't like the way I was playing. Trying better to conserve money and ammunition, and picking up a bunch of the side missions to get as much of a cash flow as I can, especially because filling up ammunition can easily take several hundred dollars. I even found the Wolfenstein and Quake rooms, (haven't gotten far enough to find the Doom room yet). Figured I'd hang on the goblet and plushy for right now so that when I'm low I can sell them for some quick money for upgrades or ammunition.

But yeah, Rage? Still awesome. I might get Prototype, since I love mindless action.

Prototype 2*.

Mindless action, hopefully a bit more varied and goal oriented than let's say, a Crackdown.

Does anyone here play Disciples II? I've always really wanted to play a multiplayer game. Keep in mind that I only have Gallean's Return, not Elves ( :( )

I am definitely pleased to hear the sequel to Rayman Origins. I was happy enough that UbiSoft finally made a real Rayman game after so many years but to make another 2D platformer game, they're really spoiling me now. I tore through Origins and despite getting platinum trophy and doing absolutely everything, I still wanted more. This better be a day one purchase for me and not often do I get new games on the spot (for last year it was just Portal 2 and Skyrim).

Well shit. I started playing Civ4:BTS again and I'm addicted. Like, real psychological addiction. When I went to bed last night, I spent about an hour thinking about how I should play out the next 25 turns, specifically on how I can take advantage of having Japan as my vassal and if I should declare war on someone on the other continent (my continent is just me and Japan) soon. Also, I'm the only one in the world with a corporation so I'll start spreading my evil right away.

Recently blitzed through Assassin's Creed II, almost finished with Tales of Graces F, thinking about starting AC: Brotherhood or getting Xenoblade. I've been playing Jeanne d'Arc on the PSP when Away from the TV.

Suikoden II is one of the all time classics. I loved Suikoden III when I first played it. I tried booting it up again last year and man oh man did it age terribly. I only played IV a little bit and fell asleep during the slow ass sailing sequences and gave up on it. V started out awesome then was just kinda there. It's the only time I managed to get all the Stars.

I've tried so hard to get into the SMT games. My main problem is all the downtime in those games, and for JRPGs, that's saying a lot. Just a lot of white noise and grinding. Oh, and if you don't have the right demons in your party/personas at certain moments, you're fucked.

I thought Suikoden V was pretty awesome. Not as good as the first two, but up there with them for me.

Yeah the SMT games sound pretty tough, haha. Picked up both DDS's and Nocturne reprints though so I look forward to getting to them sometime. I want to track down the Shadow Hearts games too, sounds like another good PS2 trilogy.

Rayman Origins was everything I love about video games. It's really good that they're continuing on with the series, apparently the first game made a slight profit? Hard to believe. You got the platinum trophy? I was wondering how hard this would be, I thought about going back and getting the remaining medals and time trial trophies. I finished up with something like 800g (xbox version).

Hmm, maybe I'll give it another shot, but magic generally isn't my thing.

Anyone here play Monday Night Combat, or more recently, Super Monday Night Combat? It's one of the few games I'm really good at, just got my first 20-0 score. Trying to convince a bunch of friends to make a team with me but they're all pansies.

How far into it are you? I'm finding it surprisingly similar to Risen, which is good. It's almost like a big pirate-themed DLC for Risen 1.

I'm about halfway through The Sword Coast. Visually, it looks pretty fantastic, with the art design striking a good balance between Fable-esque cartoonyness and the art from more grounded fantasy games like Skyrim or The Witcher 2. Also, the textures look almost universally great, and that's quite a feat for my 25" monitor. Certainly a step above Risen. Maybe even two.

But the melee/musket combat--at least so far--is absolute shit. Risen had one of the best melee systems I've ever seen in an action game, and I assumed this would be either the same or improved. Nope. They chucked it out entirely in favor of an Arcania-esque clickfest. The random shillelagh swings immediately remind me of the broken and tedious combat in Gothic 3, a game I THOUGHT Piranha Bytes had all but disowned. Battles between you and non-humanoids feel more like battles of attrition rather than a skillful display of abilities.

Beyond the awful combat, I can hardly bear the token treatment of the subject matter. You drink 'grog' to gain health and revive party members. The way to get the most positive reaction out of your fellow pirates is by being as rude as possible. Most people speak in annoying, gravelly broken engrish, injecting unfunny uses of dull pirate cliches like "landlubbbber" and "YAR, MATEY!" There's fucking VOODOO. I've never cared about pirates (minus the digital kind, heh) and possibly even less about voodoo, but even I can tell this treatment is savagely superficial and...childish. Inject a few (and by 'a few', I mean well over a season of the Soprano's worth of) f-bombs into any of the recent Disney pirate flicks, and you'd probably have a near carbon copy. I really wish I was exaggerating.

I'm also not a big fan of the large number of tiny islands, rather than one or two decent sized landmasses, but this is probably due to the fact it's coming out for consoles in a few months. Speaking of consoles... the interface :( .

I'll keep slogging through, if only because it looks so damn pretty.
