I've been a fan of trip-hop (Portishead, Tricky, Swandive, Ulver's Perdition City and Silence EPs etc.) fan for years and I've been looking for bands mixing trip-hop and (extreme metal). Not many names that pop out though

So far here are the names I came accross:
Netra
Sun Of The Sleepless (1000 Kalter Winter is one of the best song in this genre)
Benighted In Sodom
Smohalla (on some of their songs)
Sun Devoured Earth
3 Days Of Silence (I only got to hear some demo so far)
Blutmond (one or two songs have some elements)
Manes (How The World Era though most would say this it not metal. My favourite album of all time, though)

Do you know any other bands like those?

The 3rd and the Mortal, though it's more of an example of a (borderline) metal band gone trip-hop than of one mixing the two.

This is a nice request man, I love Trip Hop too! I just know one song that matches this request; it is by My Dying Bride, in they're "experimental" (more of alternative in fact) album, 34.788%... Complete. The song is called Heroin Chic, many hate it (along with the album), but I happen to like it a lot. It sounds like a doomy Tricky song:

The Gathering abandoned most of their metal roots a few years prior to this album, but souvenirs is a great "trip-rock" release.

Jesu is not trip-hop, or if they, they are not generally thought of as such, but they might interest you.

I don't know how "trip hop" this actually is, but it follows in the same vein and is very well executed.

I would start with their "self-titled" album or "conqueror". Both are very good but not really trip hop.

This chick will melt your balls the way extreme metal melts your face, not entirely metal, not entirely trip-hop, but it's heavy, drudges onward and still manages to sweep you off your feet on the way beyond the wall of sleep.

Oh and also her voice is mesmerizing and the lyrics are sublime. Enjoy...

Chelsea Wolfe (both albums are brilliant)

The black metal band SICK does a cover of portishead's wandering star, it may interest you. They don't so much mix trip hop with metal in the original songs they play but they do mix some electronic elements you could say so it's worth a try. Different to say the least.

Thanks for the tips. The cover by Sick is great. Just what I'm actually after...
