Prosanctus Inferi might have what you seek. Certainly about the furthest you can get from Behemoth. This is ugly, disgusting music.

Also, not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but does anyone knows any bands that sounds like Portal or Impetuous Ritual? Something that is dark and chaotic?

In case you haven't heard of them :

I'm looking for something that sounds like a melodic Bone Awl/Akitsa. Any suggestions?

Here you have it. Then just listen to the rest of that album if you enjoy that particular song. ;) Their first album is rawer and more black-oriented though.

I have kind of a strict request and would love if someone could help me out.

I would like some pretty aggressive black metal with really politically charged lyrics. By politically charged I mean from the liberal side so stuff that's like anti war, anti corporation, and anti corruption. If some songs have different lyrical themes that's fine as long as most are political. Please no satanic lyrics.
Along with this I would prefer if the production is somewhat well done and the vocals were slightly accessable.

I don't have a large collection of black metal (with most of it being not strictly black) but to give you an idea of what I have a taste for, a few bands I really enjoy are Wodensthrone, Totalselfhatred, and keep of kalessin

Thank you in advance for any recommendations! It's really helpful!

Edit: oh, and one last thing, is appreciate it if the band took themselves seriously. By that I mean no silly name or cover art or anything. If a bands name is Ass raper of goats and there cover art is someone Ass raping a goat, I just find it a little too immature for my taste

This might be a longshot but maybe you could give Panopticon a shot.

You guys have heard Trist (Germany)'s song Hin from the album Hin-Fort right?

Anyone knows where I can get the lyrics from? There are some spoken words in that 60 minute track. I've been wondering where I can read them. They're apparently said by an astronaut describing his travel up in space.

You mean the passage around (37:12)?

I glanced through this and corrected it briefly, but obviously some of this is still patchy. Anyone care to help? I'm not a very good listener.

I'm in search of a band with some compositional value; something that has catchy riffs and dynamics, hence doesn't sound monotonous. I like bands going into the direction of Windir (I already know the other Windir-influenced bands from Sogndal btw, so no need to mention Cor Scorpii, Vreid, Feigd, Mistur or Sigtyr) but it doesn't necessarily have to be that melodic/folkish. I just want some variety and good songwriting. Hope this isn't too vague : /

Thanks; this band sounds awesome. Just what I wanted variety-wise. Could you also recommend a band with similiar compositionary awesomeness minus the viking/folk elements?

That's a bit broad, if you're familiar with any of these bands, let us know so we can direct our recommendations a bit better:

Swedish melodic black/death, like Dissection, Sacramentum, and Unanimated?

Slightly deathier, less melodic European stuff like God Dethroned and Necrophobic?

American stuff like Angelcorpse and Order From Chaos?

Raw black/death/thrash like Blasphemy?

Something like Teitanblood and Necros Christos? (check out the split by them)

No high-speed, constant blasting like Belphegor or Behemoth?

Myrkgrav's "Trollskau, skrømt og kølabrenning"

Falkenbach and Manegarm are also similar, but you probably already know those.

Hmm, maybe Cryptic Wintermoon would fit the bill, bursting with melody, check out there first three albums for their best work.

Mephistopheles are another cracking overlooked band, especially this album -

And just to give you something else to check out, try Norway's Sworn -

I'm looking for black metal with hardcore punk/metalcore (more of the Converge variety than the Killswitch Engage) like vocals. Bonus points for good production and kickass riffs!

Hmm...well if you don't mind lo-fi production, you should try Raspberry Bulbs and Ash Pool! Both wear their punky-hardcore influences on their sleeves.

Just discovered this band today, so far I'm very impressed with their old school symphonic BM sound.

@Zodijackyl: Myrkgrav I already know, but I always wondered where to start out with Falkenbach?
@STORRM: Thanks a lot. I'll feedback/credit you in that other thread once I thoroughly listened to those bands. Sworn leaves a great impression on me.

Any BM band that has similiar sound to this? Can't describe how much I love this passage. It's very atmospheric/melodic, but at the same time, Kvist isn't really overdoing it that much either. Makes me melt, really. And the ending of Stupet, too.

...Magni Blandinn Ok Megintiri... is as good a stating point with Falkenbach as any. Ok Nefna Tysvar Ty starts off with an excellent track (from what I remember - I last listened to this band about four years ago) whereas Magni ends with one.

Do you already listen to melodic Finnish black metal? If Kvist's synths aren't an obligatory element, I recommend you check out what those bands have to offer. Few are quite as grandiose as that, but those kind of melodies are fairly common (beautiful, sorrowful, not completely unsubtle). It immediately reminded of this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyjeLjFaJrI

Similar bands: Baptism, Prevalent Resistance, Vitsaus, Teloch.

Azaghal is a different sounding Finnish band, but their song Vihasta Ja Veritöistä probably pleases you.

Craft's song Void ends in similar feelings as that, but little else they've written is as beautiful. Arckanum's þþþþþþþþþþ and Sviga Læ have a couple of similar riffs, especially Læ Elr (I don't remember the song names on þþþþþþþþþ but þann Svartís at least was an excellent song...).

Ah, that is a cd I have not spun in a long time, pity it was their last release as they were a very promising band. For some reason this album always reminds me of Covenant's 'In Times Before The Light', it as a similar low-fi sound and good use of keyboards to create a nice atmosphere.

Oh and you would prob enjoy a certain band that goes by the name of Obtained Enslavement -

I'm looking for stuff like Blood Cult and Tjolgtjar. Not necessarily in sound (though that would be cool), but in spirit. Basically, stuff that is different without being super experimental like Oranssi Pazuzu or some such, especially if it has a localized sound or themes like Blood Cult does. Rockish BM in general is also nice.

Hey dudes, I'm looking for beautiful, end of the world type stuff. Soaring melodies and vocals. Something you can invision the world falling apart to. Fast paced. A good starting point is Forteresse, but i can't buy that shit on itunes, so it needs to be something else. Thanks guys.

They're relatively well known amongst the BM set, but there's Lunar Aurora. Andacht or Elixir of Sorrow might suit you.

1349's Hellfire seems to fit this. Especially on the title track.

Windir and Lunar Aurora were right on the money. Andacht is a masterpiece, and I haven't heard much from Windir, but that song is very promising. 1349 didn't hit the right notes for me.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the quick help!!

I'd suggest Horrified, Septic Flesh, and later Thou Art Lord. Sorry, can't link youtube vids at the moment.
