I am the only person in the universe who actually dislikes King Diamond. I respect the man's music and all, but I think his constant use of high-pitched vocals ruin the experience for me. I'm sure he has the potential to sound great on "normal" vocals, and I'm not saying he shouldn't do falsettos (they do help complement the climax parts), but stop doing it all the time. Overdoing the high-pitched squeal on every song is the reason why I can't get into Exciter (great music, irritating vocals).

The vocal lines on Melissa are pretty cool and memorable. The vocal lines on Don't Break the Oath not quite, however. Kinda reminds me of what I think of John Arch on The Spectre Within compared to Awaken the Guardian.

This new Paradise Lost album is pretty decent so far but surprisingly enough has yet to click with me which is strange because usually Paradise Lost aren't the band that's hard to get into. Not sure if I really describe it as very classic/doom metal oriented but it's definitely more rocking and midpaced at times, rather than doomy and atmospheric all the time.

I'm going to their gig on Friday, assuming the return flight from Copenhagen lands as it's supposed to, at 10:30 pm, and I make it there in the nick of time. It's in a club, and not a concert hall gig as such, but it's a part of the same tour. Looking forward to it, definitely.

Indeed, you are the only person in the universe. No one else has ever said the exact same thing a million times before. No sir, you truly are gifted of original and independent thoughts.

Concert ticket prices seem to have almost doubled in the past couple of years. I just looked at Amon Amarth and $75 seems a little steep. I don't think I've paid over $40 for a gig unless it's been for a major singer-songwriter.

I would like to come visit again soon, actually.

I've known about the band Impaled for lessee, eight years or so, and I've read much praise, and only now I'm about to check them out. What the fuck?

Impaled is so damn good. Easily one of my favorite bands ever, really wish they played more. Definitely the best band of their style and I'm including Carcass. Yeah, I said it.

Speaking of that style, I saw a hell of a show last night with Exhumed being the major highlight. Hour of Penance, Abysmal Dawn, Skeletonwitch, Exhumed, Nile, Black Dahlia Murder and Cannibal Corpse. Basically we got two tours combined (Arkaik opened as well but I got there late).

Fuck, that must've been one great night. Gets pretty tough on your neck, huh? Hearing some seven gigs worth of intense, brutal music.

The term "post-thrash metal" confuses me. Didn't we used to call this stuff "groove metal"?

To confuse you further, I'll henceforth call it proto-djent.

Post-thrash attempts to make a distinction between the overly spastic groove metal faggotry of Pantera et copycats, and the blatantly spastic stuff masqueraded as intellectual. Or perhaps post thrash means groove metal with guitars tuned down to drop F#, without guitar solos, and without any of the attitude and energy groove metal sometimes has.

Are we using 'djent' seriously, now?

FD's had ENOUGH.

Doesn't post-thrash simply refer to what in retrospect was called groove metal? Zelkiiro is nearly correct; I'm sure once upon a time when genre titles were first conjured by acne-ridden geeks using dial-up modems in 1996, Pantera was the devil that spawned post-thrash or half-thrash which was refined into "groove". It can be defined by metal that wants to thrash but does not.

Would you prefer we create another genre name with "-core" affixed to the end of a random noun instead?

I'd like to be immortal just to witness either the total evolution of humankind into technological absurdity or bliss, or the slow demise and eventual destruction of the earth.

It would suck, because juxtaposed with the average human after hundreds of thousands of years you'd be something of a neanderthal.

I would expect technology along with having the knowledge and life experience of someone tens of thousands of years older to make up for that. Older will always be older, obviously, the question is rather if age means inferiority or not.

You'd have lots of knowledge and a sharp wit (provided that you wouldn't age), but you'd still have inferior deduction, learning ability and induction and you'd look like a chimp.

Also time would speed up for you until you'd go insane. Time speeds up as you get older. So when you're a thousand years old, a minute will seem like a second.

You do understand that that's more of a figurative expression than a literal one, right? Yes, time seems shorter as you age, but people arent going to suddenly disappear on you. Barring memory loss, time will appear to pass normally -- though you'll probably run out of room to make new memories after 500 years or so.

But in the future you'll be able to dump your memories onto something physical and make new memories! TECHNOLOGY.
