Hi,

Do you guys know of some great Heavy Metal or Thrash documentarys?
Yesterday I saw VH1's ''Heavy: The Story of Heavy Metal'' and the day before that ''Get Thrashed''.
I have also seen Lemmy doc. and ''The Story of Anvil''. Great documentarys but I want to see more.
Any recommandations?

Rat Skates Born In The Basement is a great one. Check that out, Its about the his time in Overkill and he talks a bit about the east coast thrash scene aswell, its a very insightful documentary and far superior than Get Thrashed.

Metal: A Headbangers Journey was the first one I saw, if you want a good black metal one Until The Light Takes Us is really good.

VH1 also has the Metal Evolution series, with the episodes online.

http://www.vh1.com/shows/metal_evolution/video.jhtml

They never put the NWOBHM one up, though, for some reason.

There be a British thrash documentary about to come out;

http://legacy.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=171951

Who knows what it will be like, but I'll give it a go. Interesting list of bands being interviewed anyway.

Mallcore: a falsie's Journey* is a terrible documentary on thrash, let a lone metal.

Oh buzz off, A Headbanger's Journey was for the most part rather good.

Try Global Metal. The same guy who made A Headbanger's Journey made it, and it's about metal from all the places you wouldn't expect metal bands to come from, like Taiwan.

Also, Heavy Metal in Baghdad. It's about Acrassicauda and all the shit they had to put up with when they were still in Iraq.

There's ONE Lamb of God song on the soundtrack to that movie. There's also Melechesh, Enslaved, Sigh, Gojira, Finntroll, and fucking Chthonic.

You people will just find any one tiny fucking thing to write something off on.

Indeed, A Headbangers Journey was really enjoyable, all the things that you might dislike about it (slipknot interview as you mentioned) as much as you hate it, they are a part of the metal scene wich can luckaly be ignored. Apart from that a lot of things were good (the awkvard drunken interview with Mayhem) that well make up for the parts that might bother you :)

Yes indeed.

Now, back on topic; I strongly second your Heavy Metal in Baghdad rec, as I found it to be a pretty interesting insight from an outsider's point of view. Plus, Get Thrashed has it's moments, although I found it just a bit shaky.

A quick search revealed that it is on a certain site that lets you Hunt for Iso's.

And good God! Can people stop uploading garbage and claiming it is Last Days Here? Been wanting to see that one for a Seamonkey's age.

i saw exodus's "other assorted atrocities" recently, it's just heaps of backstage footage and interviews with the band etc
there's one made by a kiwi that he did for some uni film school project or something? i can't find it now but it was pretty cool, 60 minutes played it i think.
he got like a $10,000 grant and used it to make the doco from memory, man i wish i could find it!

While reading about the Rat Skates/Overkill one on Amazon.com last night, I was surprised to find there is also a documentary available about the band Vio-Lence. Haven't seen the film (obviously), but the reviews looked good and I thought I'd mention it in case anyone wants to check it out. First I've heard about it.

It doesn't change the fact that log has no place in any metal education documentary aside from a 'bands to avoid' chapter/separate movie etc

A Headbanger's Journey is like Trivium. Training wheels metal.

I dare not watch Global Metal.

A couple that i haven't seen mentioned that are okay are: BBC2's 'Arena heavy metal' documentary from '1988, and a more recent one called 'Heavy Metal Britannia'. Anyways, they both focus on old 70s hard rock and NWOBHM and such. If i recall correctly, Axel Rose is a real dick in the former one and badmouths Iron Maiden. Anyways, they're worth a watch if you like old metal, i guess.

Metal From Hellas

Documentary about the history of Greek heavy metal, with an emphasis on traditional heavy metal. Nice little bit with mark Shelton towards the end.

So when are you going to move out of mom's basement? I hear McDonald's is hiring.

Cheers for that, watching it now, man how dramatic is the intro to this - "YOU WILL HEAR WORDS THAT WILL SHAKE THE FOUNDATIONS OF YOUR BELIEFS!".

Fucking psyched!

Well I hadn't heard of the Rat Skates one or the Greek one, so that's nice. Maybe the forums aren't a complete waste of time after all.

Thrash-Altenessen

Main focus is Kreator in the 80's.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0358213/

Get Thrashed: The Story of Thrash Metal

Apparently it covers thrash history from the beginning up til recent times. Haven't seen it, but it looks good.
