Advanced search and accented chars

When I search for accented chars in the SEARCH SONGS tab, I get strange results:
- searching for é gives all songs which lyrics contain a single "e", "é" or every other single accented "e" which seems quite normal
- searching for *é* gives no result!

Also, could it be possible to have a search option that would give exact result for accented chars (searching for é would return only songs which lyrics contain a single "é", not "e" or else)? It would be quite useful to spot mojibakes.

Well, that's because accented letters are converted to their non-accented version when indexed for the search. That allows results to be returned whether someone uses the diacritic or not (Motörhead/Motorhead, say). It could be useful to search specifically for the accented character in certain rare cases, but the functionality of being accent-independent is much more important, and it would be rather complicated to support both.

Admittedly, I'm not sure why "*é*" returns no result instead of everything containing an "e"...

The new line-up feature for split bands is a bit unnecessary. Why was it thought up of?

Never mind, I thought it was only applied to bands that split up when I first came across it.

EDIT: Morrigan's post below is what I meant.

New feature now live: "complete lineup" tab available, which shows all the members (present, past and live) on one tab. By default, the current lineup tab is shown, but you can go under your settings and change this to show the tab you want. You can also decide to show the complete lineup tab if the list of members does not exceed 20 (my personal preference, a balance between complete info and avoiding clutter).

Obviously, bands that do not have former nor live members do not have this tab as it would be redundant. (Example here).

Pending feature, still in dev mode (not yet live on main site): bookmarks. Manage your bookmarks under "My bookmarks", click the star icon on label/band/artist pages to bookmark them.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Implemented the complete lineup tab for albums as well.

I've also added a checkbox that will override the tab setting and simply never display any lineup tabs, and will always show the full artist listing. I use this one on album pages myself.

Sorry if this has been bought up before. Could we make it possible to search songs from bands from a specific country? Say, I know a lot Czech bands have mojibakes in their song titles. I want to search, say, *è* (which should be corrected to č) in Czech songs, and since è is a standard letter in other languages (e.g. Italian), I don't want Italian songs with è.

Could we get a parenthetical number next to the Complete Discography tab that would tell how many releases are in that tab?

On second thought, it would be handy to include that parenthetical counter on any tab with more than 15 releases. Thoughts?

That`s already on the "to do" list.

Bug fixes:
-You can now search for bands, genres and songs with &, :, ? and ' on their name.
-Bands such as "Hate's Symphonies" can now be found if you search for "Hates Symphonies" as well.

Tweaks:
-Updates to band names/ANS/etc. only update the index within 30 seconds or so (to avoid constant rewrites of the index, which we suspected caused the constant breaks). So, if you remove an ANS and want to test the search, wait 30 seconds after your update to test.

Actually, Evenfiel addressed those a while back when I asked him about them: viewtopic.php?p=1973223#p1973223

Okay, I've been seeing links like "See also: band x" in the additional notes of some bands (the only one I can think of right now is Portal)... Aren't these a little obsolete now, considering that the V2 lineup quite clearly displays every band each past and present member has been a part of? The only way I can see these parts of notes being handy at this point is if the bands share members, but the relationship is only conjectural and can't be directly proven somehow. In other cases they should be deleted, right?

Yes.

As far as I can tell, the bands mentioned in the additional notes are all properly linked in the V2 lineup, so I would assume the policy still applies here.

http://www.metal-archives.com/albums/No ... abs_lineup

Look at the line-up.
Members are not in order according to the bands.
It is confusing which member belongs to which band

Maybe it is possible to display them in groups, with a little separation between them.
I had to add one Tzelmoth member and he appears at the bottom of the line-up list ... which looks strange. Also some other members are affected by this.

edit:
could we have a report tab on the user entries?
http://www.metal-archives.com/users/Weltering_in_Blood
for instance -- did some reports yesterday -- wants to do some corrections, but is not providing the information, because he has the CD or so, but has not added them in the report. It would also be help to see whether a user has reported several errors on the same band, but on various albums for instance.

I've requested your first change. As for the reports tab, it's available for mods. Maybe we should expand it to regular users?

edit:
would it not be appropriate to change the display of the track list in a similar fashion?

Bug to report, not sure if it's documented or not:

I edited Rotten Cadaveric Execration's additional notes so that it contained HTML code for bold text (<b>), because the band appeared on a couple of compilation albums. I closed off the bold tag with </b>, but the closer tag can't be seen unless you click "Read more" on the additional notes, because there's other info in the additional notes in addition to the compilation appearances. I assume this is because the closer tag isn't registered as part of the text unless you press "Read more", but now the whole page under the additional notes is bold:

maybe you should try to clean your cookies or so.
I added a <b> to the additional notes, but was unable to create a similar error.
Maybe the admins can explain why such stuff can happen.

I think it'd be really nice if we could do a bit more with bookmarked bands. I'd at least find it useful to be able to see what bands had an upcoming album. Since a lot of albums probably bypass that list it'd also be useful to be able to sort the bands based on the date of their last release (or list releases they've had within a time period). I guess a problem with a change like these would be that it might make the bookmark functionality more useful for tracking bands you're already familiar with than simply keeping track of bands you want to check out sometime. I don't know, maybe it'd also just be too much work.

If I find a band that I want to check out later, I usually just add one of their albums to my MA wishlist. So far I've been using the bookmarks feature to keep track of data updates for bands I like, mostly to revert crappy edits on those bands' pages. Increased functions for the bookmarks would be nice, but the feature already serves its primary purpose as far as I'm concerned.

I have a question. Is there a quick way to acces a list of al your self-created threads? And if there isn't a way to do that, would it be a good option to implement in a future update?

henkkjelle, I think clicking on search, entering your name in "Search for Aurthur", selecting topic titles only in "Search within", and finally selecting Topics for "Display results as" should do what you want.
