Speedwolf - Speedwolf

Rather magnificent, I'm developing quite a thing for raw, dirty speed-metal. Speedwolf and Midnight between them are definitely among my favourite recent discoveries.

Outworld - I, Thanatos

Epic, dark and huge sounding progressive metal. The riffs rule on this track, cause they actually conjure atmosphere rather than chug boring along. And man, Kelly Carpenter is a vocal demon; he shows no sign of weakness and sings powerful vocal line after powerful line. Shame the world album doesn't sound like this.

Riff-gasm. How does Abbath come up with such great riffs?

He asks Demonaz.

Ulver - Bergtatt. Beautiful and complete album.

 Win.

Love Bergtatt as well.

Dream Theater - Beyond This Life

Doesn't sound too bad. Has some nice groove riffing going on. And LaBrie sounds pretty ok with his vicious rasp. One of the better songs on the album for sure.

Funeral Mist - Sun of Hope

The riffs are crunchy and distinct as hell, and the whole album exudes an atmosphere of deep evil.

Been listening to post-rock all of today. It's great for chilling out.

Post Rock is good but 99% of bands sound the same.

Virgin Steele - Dust from the Burning

Okay, I'm weirded out. This guy sounds exactly like Tobias Sammet.

Machine Head - Who We Are

One of the rare cases of bands whose early records suck and the new stuff rules.

?!? Define early.

N.P: Gaia from (1994) Tiamat - Wildhoney (2007 Century Media Reissue) CD1.
This reminds me a bit about old The Gathering.

Where did you get that idea from? To me the two vocalists sound quite different from eachother.

I haven't heard that much of this Tobias dude aside from a few Edguy song, but he didn't really remind me of David Defeis on that track. If anything during his high note outbursts he reminds a bit of Halford but that's it. Guy has a clear voice and the notes he bursted out sounded high but pretty clear while David uses more of a shrieky way of singing and his high notes sound rawer. Do you know that there's this Avantasia album featuring him on guest vocals? You might dig that.

Zelkiro, you know David Defeis did guest vocals on that Avantasia song, right?

colin that IS the song he did vocals on...

Power Quest - For Evermore

So epic it's too much. "I CAN SEE ANGELS IN THE SKY,
I CAN SEE DEMONS DOWN BELOW
YOU WILL SEE EVERYTHING
THAT I HAVE SEEN BEFOOOOOORE..."

Amazing shit.

Do you think the two sound similiar?

I think Defeis was definitely one of Sammet's influences, but eh, they have pretty different voices overall.

W.A.S.P - The Demise

The Neon God albums could have been handled a lot better, I feel. They're good songs, but sound so much like The Crimson Idol. Perhaps some kind of direct sequel might have been more enjoyable than a blatant recycle.

NP: Paradise Lost - Honesty in Death

Man this rules. People on Paradise Lost's forum compare this track to ''Sweetness'' and ''As I Die''. I can see why but this song easily rapes both tracks. This songs like nothing they've done before. If anything it reminds me a bit of ''Living With Scars'' if it flew more naturally when it comes to structure. Nick Holmes sounds similiar to the past records but the all-around vocal lines here are closer to Draconian Times than the clean-harsh combination of In Requiem. I can't wait for the record now.

Black Breath - Obey

Just discovered this band, loving the death metal buzzsaw guitars mixed with the kickass overal feeling of crustyness.

Amon Amarth - The Last stand of Frej

A lot of people had a negative reaction to AA's latest effort, but I loved it. Easily among my favorites from the band.
