This lineup is fucking terrific! Desaster, Agalloch, Suffocation, Ulcerate, Electric Wizard, Dying Fetus... there are too many good bands to mention. I will definitely be doing what I can to make it to this.

Have my tickets and hotel sorted for this. Booking flights in the next two weeks, going to be around E600. Really looking forward to it. Heading to Baltimore on Wednesday so want to get some sights in and eat some good food. I seen on Man v Food that Baltimore has the best sandwiches in the US? Anyone got any reccomendations for places near the fest which do good authentic American food, and also any good vegetarian places around?

Great to see two Spanish bands on there!

Well, now I've got two reasons to schedule a couple of weeks of vacation. I don't know that I'll be able to forgive myself if I miss this one...Already have to miss The Gates Of Slumber here in Indianapolis this weekend. :(

Image

I'd have to make it to all 4 days. Why can't they put all the acts I want to see on the same day?

Holy shit, I swear one day I'll travel all the way to attend that fest.

Besides that impressive line-up, I wanna add 2 things:

Dodheimsgard live is one of the finest and most bizarre acts you can see live. They do play stuff from almost every album, but expect to hear most of Supervillain and International 666.

About Morbid Angel: since Dave came back, their setlists relies mostly on A, B, C and D, playing just 1 song off Formulas and now 2-3 from Illud (the death metal tracks anyway). The performance itself is pretty flawless, so it should be a killer show.

I saw them doing this setlist:

Immortal Rites
Fall From Grace
Rapture
Pain Divine
Maze of Torment
Sworn to the Black
Existo Vulgoré
Nevermore
Angel of Disease
Lord of All Fevers and Plague
Chapel of Ghouls

Encore:
Dawn of the Angry
Where the Slime Live
Blood on My Hands
Bil Ur-Sag
God of Emptiness
World of Shit (The Promised Land)

There's been another round of cancellations at MDF. This batch includes Morgion, Dodheimsgard, and Unanimated. They haven't posted it on the official website yet but they did post it on Facebook.

However, the replacement bands they've announced are pretty impressive: Setherial, the Chilean Pentagram, and Mortuary Drape. I was looking forward to Dodheimsgard and Unanimated but I'm sure that many here will see the replacements as an overall improvement. Regardless, MDF is still looking pretty exciting.

I'm not really disappointed in the recent cancellations since I'm not familiar with those three bands. I was definitely going to watch their sets at the fest though.

I'm pleased that they brought in Mortuary Drape and Pentagram (Chl). I was supposed to see Mort Drape with Inquisition on tour this past December, but because of Danny Serna's (Rites Of Darkness organizer and tour manager) incompetence, they never made it over here. The Chilean Pentagram should be really cool and I'm sure the Hispanic contingent will go nuts for them.

Suffocation, Mortuary Drape, Absu, Napalm Death, Sargeist.

Excellent lineup is all I have to say.

My favorite restaurant in Baltimore is Kali's Mezze in Fells Point. (1606 Thames St.) Best spinach pie and very affordable. You could also buy sandwiches and other food to bring to the fest at Whole Foods (1001 Fleet St.) if you don't want to eat the fest vendor food. For tourist sites, check out Fells Point and Hampden. Fells Point has the Sound Garden music store (1616 Thames St.) with a great Metal selection and Hampden has Atomic Books (3620 Falls Rd.) who stock lots of underground Metal books. (Bazillion Points, Feral House, etc.) I'd recommend Pitango Gelato (802 South Broadway) also.

Can't go, anyway, most likely.

But Chilean Pentagram kills it every time. Sad to be missing Morbid Saint (who never play here, despite...you know...), Mortuary Drape, and Rorschach.

Most other bands I'd like to see on the bill, I have seen.

Reallllly upset that Morgion have had to drop off but I understand their situation and hope that they can maybe make it next year. Unexpected situations such as injuries really do have to be forgiven and I wouldn't want to see the band without Peto

Well I wanna order tickets online as soon as I get a replacement debit card, but both the people from around here I know that are going are flying. Is anyone from the Kansas/midwest vicinity carpooling to this? Just curious as I formulate my plans here.

I'm very pissed that Unanimated had to cancel, but hey, shit that's out of your control is bound to happen at some point. But indeed, Mortuary Drape is an excellent replacement!

I will be coming to this one! If anyone is carpooling from Philly/Jersey/points NE, let me know, as I'd be more than happy to pitch gas money in for a ride.

Tim Yeung went to Pestilence, right? so he's still playing live with MA?

Anyway, don't worry! Tim plays the stuff just well and quite similar to Pete - or at least he tries to. They played here some months ago and the whole band was absolutely flawless.

This's the one year I wish I had a 4-day pass with Autopsy & Absu playing Thursday. Did see Absu in '09 when they played FL. Have never seen Autopsy, couldn't make it to the MDF they played a couple years back. Oh well, still excited to see the bands that I listed a couple of posts earlier.

I didn't even know Tim went to Pestilence. I just hope he doesn't overblast the classic MA songs. If his style's similiar to Pete's then it should be good. They didn't play too much of their new shit, did they?

They didn't play Angel Of Disease when I saw them in '06(Masters Of Chaos tour), but played every other song off Covenant which kinda aggrevated me. Would be nice to see them play that tune at deathfest.

Can someone tell me about how long each band's set is?

Also, will some bands play at the same time as others?

The big name bands get about an hour. So Morbid Angel will get an hour, probably starting at 9:30 pm on their scheduled day (so Saturday at 9:30 pm for them), and go until about 10:30 or maybe even a bit longer. For the mid-level bands, they tend to get 40-45 minutes and the lesser bands probably like 35-40 minutes.

There are occasional overlaps in sets due to the high number of bands playing. There are also three stages now, two outside and one inside. So, usually while one band is playing, the other will be setting up on the opposite stage and overlaps seem to try to be avoided as much as possible. However, it's impossible to prevent all overlapping.

It's also worth noting that the last band to play on the outside stages (the big headliner of the day: Morbid Angel, Godflesh, Electric Wizard) has to finish playing by 11:00pm. There are three more sets inside, with the last one ending around 1:45am.

Also, overlaps are usually bands that play completely different styles. For instance, in 2010, Obituary was headlining outside while Converge played inside, and last year, Voivod was headlining while Defeated Sanity played inside. A couple of the overlaps last year bothered me because I missed Orange Goblin's set for Skinless' last show and apparently the crust band Doom played a really incredible set with the crowd going apeshit while I watched Hail Of Bullets outside.

I'm surprised that Doom and HoB overlapped - seems like Bolt Thrower fans (98% of MDF attendees) would be torn.

'tis true, I was one of the crowd going apeshit :)

the one overlap that killed me was having to miss In Solitude's first US show (on my birthday no less) to see Dropdead. Luckily for me Dropdead killed it.

Me. I saw them here in New York, I thought they were kind of washed up and the new material was pretty crappy groove-whatever stuff. I was the only one with that opinion it seems.

A sick lineup this year; I was going to go (Baltimore is only 3 hours away), but the tickets were limited when I got around to checking it out.

Set times are up! Not too happy about the Artillery/Negura Bunget overlap. I'll probably just watch one or two Artillery songs and then switch stages. Suffocation/Nausea kind of sucks too but it's not as bad, and everything else seems pretty good to me.

Suffocation and Nausea almost completly overlaps... thats the only one that bugs me... might check out Suffo first then checkout Nausea last :/

Nonetheless, every other set time is perfect! Looking forward to this!!!

Artillery and Negura Bunget playing at the same time = :annoyed:

I really don't know what I'm gonna do... It's really gonna come down to their set. If there are a good number of songs from By Inheritance played, I'll stay for Artillery for sure. But I may end up doing what Krav will probably do.

Since I have a place to stay in walking distance of the show and don't have to worry about anything, I'm thinking of putting together an MA meet-n-greet this year. What would be the most convenient day/time for all of you folks who are going? Anyone have an idea for a good meet up spot?

Artillery / Negura Bunget overlap means I'll probably check out a bit from both 'em. Same with Today is the Day / Macabre, Suffocation / Nausea, and Yob / Pentagram. Other than that, I think I'm good! Not too much time for breaks and meals though.

As for an MA meetup, I'd imagine pre-start on Friday would be good, since not everyone is going Thursday and that way you'd be familiar with any fellow MA-ers for the whole weekend. Just a thought.
