I like the music they do, but Geddy's vocals are incredibly terrible and annoying.

About damn time! Yeah, I'm definitely hoping for good things and wonder how this will compare to Snakes And Arrows. Especially since there is supposed to be an epic track on here...

Rush is one of those rare bands that really make a female vocalist work!

You suck.

I think Geddy's vocals are deeper and better recently, at least on the two latest albums.

......

Songs sound good! Good to see these guys still got it after all these years!
By the way, shouldn't this be in the Metal Discussion? I'm pretty sure they are in the archives. Just sayin...

Even though they're in the archives, I put it in this forum since they're not REALLY a metal band. I figured if a mod disagrees they'll move it to the Metal Discussion forum.

I heard one or two new tracks when I saw 'em live last year, they were okay...pretty heavy but didn't interest me much. I'd still give this a go however!

As musicians they are impressive, I love their instrumentals and Rush is an example of a band which I can hear despite the horrible vocals. Still, I'll check it out - in fact, the tracks sound pretty good.

Wow, this actually sounds good. I've listened to three of their 80's albums and I can't say I liked them much, but I thought I'd check these songs out on a whim. If these two songs are anything to go by then this new album sounds right up my alley. I'll be checking it out for sure.

It's true that Geddy can't sing the old shit live, went to see them last year and he really struggled with various songs. But his vocals were pretty good on Snakes and Arrows, I thought. I don't know how anyone could hate the 'like a solitary pine.....' line in The Way the Wind Blows.

^I second that. 2112 is a great place to start. Also, of the three 80's Rush albums you said you listened to, do those include Moving Pictures and/or Permanent Waves?

Thanks for the recommendation! Nah, two of the albums were Signals and Grace Under Pressure. I can't remember the other one. Listening back, Grace Under Pressure doesn't sound as bad as I remembered it. Signals on the other hand still does nothing for me. I'll check out 2112 but I just really dig the heaviness of the new songs, and there's sort of a Faith No More quality about them. Out of Vapor Trails and Snakes & Arrows, which album's better overall and which sounds closest to the above posted songs?

About time! I'm not a huge Rush fan, but I really enjoy the current style they've been doing on their last couple of albums. I'm glad there is finally a release date for this.

I prefer Snakes and Arrows and it is also closer to the sound of the new songs. I think you'll like this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4FrrorwqYM

Anyways, I'd definitely recommend checking out Moving Pictures and Permanent Waves when you get the chance. Those albums are masterpieces.

Hmm really? I saw em around July...after he warmed up with 2 songs his voice sounded like it did on the records, maybe lacking a bit of strength but certainly not the range.

I saw them last year too and I thought Geddy sounded great. He can still get his voice up there pretty high.

You've listened to Rush, but you've never listened to 2112 or Moving Pictures? Dude, no offense, but that's really weird. That's like saying, "Oh I've heard of No Prayer for the Dying and Virtual XI, but never checked out Powerslave". Hahaha, just doesn't make any sense. Anyway, like the rest of the posters said, you have to listen to 2112 and Moving Pictures if you have even the slightest interest in the band's music.

I don't have any friends who are into Rush, so I chose three albums I thought I would like, based on them using a heavy amount of synth, something I like in 80's pop. I listened to them and they didn't do anything for me, I didn't think there was going to be much variation between later or earlier albums so I decided to focus on other bands instead. It's unfortunate that I gave up but It's really not that big of deal.

It's a bigger deal than you might think. You'll see why when you get around to Moving Pictures and 2112.

The new songs are okay. I'm hoping for something a bit more dynamic. I absolutely love Snakes and Arrows for that reason. Anyone who hasn't checked out their 70's material, particularly Hemispheres and A Farewell to Kings, please do so. Really the height of prog rock as a genre. The albums are not instantly gratifying, but if you give them the time, perhaps you will find them enjoyable. Also, their most popular ones are worth checking out as well- Moving Pictures and Permanent Waves. Rush have had a solid career and I will be checking Clockwork Angels out.

That riff Alex played reminds me a lot of Bastille Day. So stoked for this album! A radio-edit version of Headlong Flight is going to be released next week.

I didn't expect something heavy like that sample. Bloody hell, this is going to be good.

Man, I just can't get exited about this. Instrumentally I find them quite interesting, but in the end I just can't get past the vocals. I enjoyed their documentary, though.

That song actually sounded rather heavy for Rush. Definitely looking forward to seeing how the rest of this turns out.

The solo was pretty rad, but I haven't really been feeling these new songs. I may pick it up when it's released though.

Love how loud the bass is. Seems like it suffers from the same production problems Vapor Trails had though. Shame because Snakes and Arrows sounded great.
