Minefield and We Doom You to Death were pretty good. The rest were... meh. Pretty disappointing.

Surprised to see that people aren't excited about this. Personally I thought the samples sounded great, I can't wait to crank this thing on my stereo!

Sounds every bit of fantastic. Epic material, performance, sound, and most of all: RIFFing, grooving, dooming, (true) death metal.

Yeah, so I like it. ;)

This is definitely in high contention for album of the year. After having been a bit dissapointed by the entirety of Horrendous's The Chills, my faith in death metal is restored. Crushing from beginning to end. Van Drunen still sounds like a fucking animal. I'm thoroughly impressed.

I still cant shake the feeling that I heard all those riffs before, but who cares, haha.

Asphyx is one of my favorite bands, so I'll be getting this for sure. They understand (unlike so many new bands) what quality riffs are.

Decent album cover.
Might just give the new one a spin... it's been a long while since I checked out anything recent by them.

This is currently my album of the year but its not amazing. It lacks anything to make it stand out. Solid Asphyx riffs, not the mindblowing ones needed to make up for the lack of vision.

Yeah, simple riffing, but this album sounds so much better than I remember DTBW sounding. I'm really enjoying this release, and I think "Minefield" may be one of, if not the best song the band has ever written and recorded. This is my first encounter with that Celtic Frost cover as well, and is the first track off of Monotheist that I've heard a cover for. They really made it their own, which for a band like Asphyx isn't really that tough to do I guess, but Van Drunen's vocals definitely give it that extra little something that makes it worth listening to.

I don't know why but DTBW jumped out at me and got me excited, despite it having all the issues I have with Deathhammer. Probably just the state of death metal right now more than anything, simply having a cool throwback to the old days isn't enough like it was in 2008 or 2009, now you either need to have some kind of fresh new look at it, or simply have mindblowing, top of the line riffs. Deathhammer has a few of those riffs, such as in Minefield, but by and large it's pretty much a passable performance without reaching that top level often. The Celtic Frost cover is cool, but as you said, anything with Van Drunen on vocals is going to sound different and fresh.

I agree. I think the band definitely has it in them to do something like that, I guess we'll find out in a couple of years.

The new album's really bloody good. I just got it this morning and I've played it about 3 times today. I'm definitely a very satisfied customer! :D It's ridiculously heavy and ridiculously loud... just what I want from Asphyx.

Why aren't the lyrics to 'We doom you to death' on here? Does anyone have them?

Yeah, they're not. I suspect it's something to do with the fact that they're making a mockery of a few bands/scenes... still, I can't see why they'd avoid publishing them. It's not like they've named any names, haha.

Like Impaled Nazarene not publishing the words to 'Zero tolerance' on the live album... If you've written the fucking lyrics at least you might as well stand by them, otherwise why write them?
