This is pretty damn good sounding, the production is a bit cleaner than Death Transmutation, so it avoids falling into a mess of buzzing noise. Lots of great riffs here. Thoughts?

Actually on closer inspection it's kind of a compilation, but either they've been rerecordd or remastered or something, because this all sounds pretty good for DM demo quality stuff.

On closer closer inspection, the sound is exactly the same. I haven't heard the first demo or the split, but the Path to Attrition EP songs have exactly the same sound. The others may have been touched up to bring them to the same standard. Makes me wonder why they decided to make their sound worse for the full length compared to EP.

Death Transmutation has a good sound i reckon, i'm yet to play it at any decent volume though.
and when i played the streaming files up there it wasn't through the amp etc

may have to rape my /cache and burn them to disc for a proper blast.

"Blood and Mercury" is a comp of all the demo/split and EP tracks, with a bonus unreleased song (Corpse of the Redeemer) which was originally planned for a compilation which fell through. There is just a little bit of remastering to bring the volume levels into line but that's just about it.

For those who are curious, there are 2 masters of "Death Transmutation" floating around. The LP version sounds much better IMO, but if you have the CD (or a download) I think the mastering makes things a bit muddier.

Recording of the second album, "Contragenesis" starts in 2 weeks time though, really keen to get this beast down on tape!

Through a decent stereo set-up (such as mine ), this will crush you into dust, really fucking devastating sound.

Thanks for the clarification there.

I've got the CD version, which is quite muddy. Still a really good album in spite of it.

Well this thread isn't a total waste then haha, look forward to hearing that one for sure.

Awesome news! This is some killer demo material from what I'm listening to and I look forward to picking this one up in the future.

Thanks for this info. I didn't know the LP had a different mix. I'll keen to hear it, you guys have copies of the LP?

Damn straight. There was, started by me actually. It was in the Tavern, do a search and see if you can find it, though it might be locked now...

This looks like another purchase that I'll be making soon. I also really liked the sound on Path Of Attrition, my vinyl copy sounds freakin' crushing.

Blood & Mercury is out now via NWN!:

Image

When Ignivomous released their “Path of Attrition” demo in 2007, the Death Metal gold rush had yet to completely take off. Now, four years later, the same currents that produced that nearly perfect demo have produced an abundance of bands attempting to recapture the essence of Death Metal with varying degrees of success. Ignivomous’ work nonetheless stands as a monument to the potential that the genre has to offer. This collection contains all of the tracks from the aforementioned demo recording and the utterly flawless “Eroded Void of Salvation” EP as well as their track from the split 7″ with Tzun Tzu. Also included is one previously unreleased song entitled “Corpse of the Redeemer” that will hopefully hold Ignivomous fans over while the band completes the recording of their new album. For those few who are unfamiliar with Ignivomous, their sound is a potent distillation of the most powerful Death Metal from the early to mid 1990’s. The black blood of Immolation, Incantation, Grave, Demigod and others is commingled and burns furiously in the veins of Ignivomous. Their practice of synthesis and re-interpretation rather than uninspired regurgitation, however, set Ignivomous apart from many currently active Death Metal bands. For this reason, their music exhibits a vitality that is conspicuously absent in much of today’s “retro” Death Metal scene. “Blood and Mercury” compiles what is arguably Ignivomous’ best material to date and generally represents a high water mark for the recent wave of traditional Death Metal.

The new track is great. They really nailed the production this time. People who were put off by Death Tranny can't complain now.

It's one of the best dark death metal releases. Had a guitar sound like the mighty Portal's Seepia album i think. Too murky for some.

Both of these have made my day. Truthful, yet hilarious at the same time.

Seriously though, I could see how some people would be put off by the debut's production, because it is quite a MONSTROUS avalanche of down tuned, savage, twisted pile of metallic wreckage hell-bent on destroying everything in it's path. Wonderful in my eyes though...

the only thing about the production on Death Transmutation is that sometimes everything blends together and becomes just a huge wall of sound. some may love that but i prefer to be able to hear and understand each individual instrument, and most importantly to me, be able to understand the guitar riffs. it's sometimes hard to pick out the guitar riffs on Death Transmutation cause it's just a huge wall of sound.

just my two cents.... it's still a great album tho

Death Transmutation sounds good through my good computer speaker set up, but has a horrible hiss on my shitty car speakers.

Anyone listen to the new one streaming yesterday? I missed it since my net was capped.

Haven't had a chance to listen yet either but it'll be blasted out some time tomorrow. Nice artwork too.

I have some unexplainable aversion to listening a streamed version of this album. I simply want to own it before I give it a listen.

The whole compilation has been remastered. And Path of Attrition is the demo, not the EP. Get your shit straight, haha.
