Im looking for good bands that write lyrics mostly about the stories/themes of HP Lovecraft. There are tons of bands that write about this stuff so please only rec ones that you think are particularly good.

Preferably bands that play death or black metal, but if they have MORE than one or two songs about Cthulu and his ilk and they are good Im open to any genre.

Infact they dont even have to play metal. If they play punk, hardcore, industrial or even rap (thatd be something, huh?) Im interested

Thanks!!!

I'm sure the works of Lil Wayne are horrors inflicted upon mankind by the Old Ones.

But there is an easier way to find out, at least as far as metal goes. There's only 162 to leaf through.

As far as other genres go, I got nothin'.

Don't know whether or not you like funeral doom, but I think Catacombs really fit what you're looking for. You'll feel like you're walking through the very halls of R'lyeh once you listen to them.

Electric Wizard popped in my mind first. Deathchain's Death Eternal and Death Gods albums deal with Lovencraft themes too.

well, Bal Sagoth, for sure... While they have various (pulp horror/sword n sorcery) stories going on throughout their albums, lovecraftian influenced ones are among them (though sometimes some terms/names are a bit altered but it's exactly that stuff going on).

necronomicon by nox arcana is an awesome album

Fields of the Nephilim is a cool goth metal option

Tiamat has a lot of lovecraftian influences on their first records

Ossadogva's IA Ancient One is entirely about the Cthulhu Mythos if you're looking for fairly standard black metal with Lovecraft lyrics. The Vision Bleak write a lot of Lovecraft-themed lyrics, too. Cephalectomy has written a good deal of death/grind stuff about Lovecraft. And obviously, there's always Nile.

Denial! Denial is a very good death metal band from Mexico, and they successfully pull of the 'cavernous and horrifying' sound; I like them a lot. 'Catacombs of the Grotesque' is well worth your time and money. Cheers!

Rudimentary Peni's album "Cacophony" is about the life and works of H.P. Lovecraft. It's deathrock and a really good album.

Lots of good death and black plays Lovecraftian metal... Yoght Sothoth from Mexico plays some pretty brutal old school-ish death metal, Shub Niggurath (also Mex) makes some evil black/death (my favorite of theirs is Evilness and Darkness Prevails), Nyarlathotep has a really cool death/doom demo floating around the web (only 2 songs, great stuff though, slightly experimental), Innsmouth plays some cool black/death too... Eldritch Horror made some cool old school death demos, Cruciamentum is crushingly evil Incantation worship, Cosmic Atrophy's Codex Incubo is very very cool, weird, almost spacey death metal. Chaotic Aeon's selftitled is some pretty cool F and G -era Morbid Angel worship from China, definitely worth a try.

That's from on top of my head, should be loads more out there, I recommend going through an advanced search and try out a couple songs from each interesting band there.

EDIT: Wow, reading th epost through again made me realize I wrote 'cool' like 17 times. Hmm. Anyway, the bands are - cool.

Crucifiction's "Portals to the Beyond" is the sickest old-school death revival release I've heard recently, and its all Lovecraftian.

From what I've heard Nehëmah - Requiem Tenebrae contains Lovercraft inspired lyrics. I can't confirm this because the lyrics in the booklet (cd) are not readable enough. recommended nonetheless

while their first demo isn't all lovecraftian, the new output from Sulphur Aeon should be right up your alley. It's called "deep deep down they sleep" (Sulphur Aeon's hymns to the old ones) and you can preview it here:

They do. Lyrics are readable in the vinyl version.

How could I forget to recommend Mekong Delta? I mean, they even have an album named 'The Music of Erich Zann'! Good, weird, technical, progressive thrash metal, to be sure. Give 'em a listen.

If you enjoy them, you should check out The Lamp of Thoth - the former (on hold) band of 2 members of Arkham Witch. They touch upon Lovecraftian themes a bit less, but they're still present. Granted, Arkham Witch isn't all about Lovecraft either.

I suppose two very overt examples would be:

The Doom That Came to Sarnath and Shub-Niggurath - the latter of which is not on youtube, unfortunately.

You definitely need to hear The Grotesquery, 'tales of the coffin born' its a nice old school type death metal record with kam lee on vocals and rogga johansson on guitar, kind of king diamond type concept album, i think its based on a lovecraft story, if not it still has the necronomicon all throughout the album.

Pretty much all of Massacre's album From Beyond focuses on Lovecraft. Musically it is somewhere in between Scream Bloody Gore and Leprosy.
