I would like to suggest to add this site to Austrian bands, in case the information proves to be fruitful:
http://www.sra.at/

example:
http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Agony/40351
http://www.sra.at/band/16821

Not bad for a small gothic band ...

edit:
another example:
http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Darkside/8107
http://www.sra.at/band/11620

Nice, will be checking bands for additional information there. Adding band profiles there to the links section should be alright too, especially considering the lists of magazine articles.

Sadly, there are still more to do:
http://www.metal-archives.com/todo/no-lineup#tab_bands
If you sort the "Bands" tab by "v1 line-up" there's still some with "Yes."

Take for example this band:

Was just talking to Morri about it, apparently the middle tab was for bands that had a partial V2 line-up + legacy. The first tab is for bands that have no line-up, but have a legacy line-up. It doesn't seem like there's too many for the first tab; a few pages worth.

Excellent work, though, Alhadis. You are credit to team.

Aaah, right. :D That'd explain why I saw a few extra bands pop up in the centre tab that were recently updated with another member - I thought I'd finished every band in Italy when another one came up.

And thanks, just doin' my job. ;)

You know, looking back, this has been a great effort across the board. A little less than a year ago MA v2 was released, and no bands had any of the new line-ups on them. Now a year later nearly all bands (roughly 75000-79000 - that's 210 bands/day) that did have line-ups in V1 will now have line-ups in V2. That's a pretty spectacular feat. Granted there's always more to do; I'm extremely proud of everyone who has been so committed to keeping this database updated.

I'll think I'll jump into the Swedish pile of demo bands from the 90's. I might be able to find something out on those missing line ups... Already cleared some legacy line ups from A to E, a few months ago.

Damn. Seems there's lots of legacies left. And here I thought we were done.

I just started looking into the Norwegian section of the "no legacy" entries myself.

At the rate I'm chewin' up the remaining legacies, you're better off not editing any of the "has legacy" entries, lest we end up with duplicate artists. :oh shit:

... just sayin'. :D

Hey moderators, i just noticed that in the "Upcoming Albums" list (if you click on "more" in the upcoming albums div on the front page), you cannot watch page 2 and on, it is just plain text Like: "FirstPrevious123NextLast".

This is prob an easy fix, just putting it out there.

Just as a hint for anybody who finds that F5 isn't working... hold the Shift key while pressing the refresh button, and that'll force a complete cache refresh of the page (in Firefox at least; not sure about other browsers, but they probably follow suite).

I just finished adding lineups to mexican bands which had v1 lineups; and I'm about to start investigating the remaining 35 bands that do not have v1 lineups.

Wish me luck!

I think that now, we should be separating Guests and Session musicians. They are different from another, as guests usually play on a few songs, while most session musicians play on the entire album.

Why not? Would it be too much trouble now to fix all artists listed under each tab?

No, because there's absolutely no need to enforce a completely arbitrary distinction between a "guest" and a "session member". When in essence they equate to the same thing: a member whose participation in the recording is temporary.

Y'can think of some really silly ideas sometimes, y'know that Oog...?

I actually think that there is a clear difference between both, and I`ve even requested the same thing in the bug genie.

As far as I`m concerned, a guest member is the guy who usually plays in one song, doing a solo, background vocals, main vocals in one song, flute, and so on, while a session member tends to play in the whole album. A session member is pretty much a regular band member. There are session members who play in several albums by the same band. On the other hand, a guest member tends to be a friend of the band who was invited for a special appearance in the album.

So... I'm trying to clear some legacies but adding new artists is currently slow as treacle. The entire rest of the archive is loading at normal speed, but trying to add an artist takes almost a minute. I've been trying on and off for the last few hours now, and it doesn't seem to get any better. What gives?

Same here. Still achingly slow.

Evenfiel wrote:

Yeah, but I don't think there's really a need to differentiate. How are we to adjudicate when a guest member stops being a "guest" member and becomes a "session" member after more than a few appearances...?

Dunno know about you, but I like having as few blurry areas to deal with as possible...

*sighs and dusts his hands* Okay, that's finally the last of the V1 line-ups... Doesn't feel quite as much of an achievement as it did the first time I thought I cleared the last one... meh, whatever.

Mission complete.

In the vast majority of cases it's easy to distinguish between a guest and a session member. Guests tend to appear in one or two songs in the album, while session players tend to play in all songs. Sure, there might be some blurry cases, but these are an exception.

is there anything in place for a musician that played on both sides of a split album?

You can add the artist for the lineup for one band or the other but not both.

No, not yet possible. You have to make a note about it in the additional info.
