So I have noticed this site recently has a lot of good underground artists but it is hard to search for bands on there, so I want to know what bands you know about on this site. No genre restriction I prefer death metal and the likes but any will do. Be sure to post all free downloads too. Thanks in advance.

Pick of the bunch for me would be Appalachian Winter, great epic black metal, his latest release my favourite so far.

Here's a big ass list of free downloads for you. Not all of them are bandcamp but it would take a lot of time to sift through and delete the ones that aren't. I think most of them are though. There are some mediafire links and others there but they're all legal (released free by the band). Some may be broken as the list is pretty old. Also, these were posted on a forum that supported hyperlinks so it will be pretty ugly on the eyes. Lastly, most of the bands here are progressive (or possibly in some way tied to the djent scene) as underground/solo bands in that genre tend to release stuff for free but there might still be a little bit of variety.

I love bandcamp, but yeah it is hard to find artists on there. These are the few I can think of off the top of my head

Pine Barrens - Blackened Punk - http://pinebarrens.bandcamp.com/
Lake of Blood - Black/Doom - http://lakeovblood.bandcamp.com/
Wilds Forlorn - Atmospheric Black Metal - http://wildsforlorn.bandcamp.com/
Lycus - Reallllly good Funeral Doom, even though it's a free download I wound up ordering their tape, recommended! (Plus how often do Funeral Doom bands blast??) - http://lycus.bandcamp.com/album/demo-2011

That's why I've been there once and never went back. WTF is the point if you can't search? :grr:

Ehm, you know, you can search
http://bandcamp.com/
the search bar it's down there, on the right, right where it says Fans: discover new music & directly support the artists who make it, you can also browse by genre with the tag cloud that's underneath.

I make experimental black metal with lots of weird meters and chromaticism. You can download it for free by "paying" $0.00. Here's a link to my most recent black metal album: http://jutegyte.bandcamp.com/album/impermanence

I am starting to be little bit maniacal, mentioning this band everywhere, but in my view this is really outstanding: http://shroudoftheheretic.bandcamp.com/

Kasan from Leipzig Germany.

Doomy post rock.
Reminds me of Isis meets Cult of Luna with a dash of Lull. Quite mellow.

The Omega Experiment is an excellent progressive metal band on Bandcamp: http://theomegaexperiment.bandcamp.com/ ... experiment

The Flenser and Pest Productions have a lot of their releases up there as well.

My solo music is also up there, all for free download!

There's my band, link's in my sig. (/shameless self promotion)

Moving on:

Pacific Proving Ground (Might be a little post-hardcore-y for your tastes. I recommend you stick to downloading their instrumental EPs, they pretty much sucked ass once they got a singer.)

http://pacificprovingground.bandcamp.co ... umental-ep

Skully Mammoth's a pretty good band if you like sludge-y stuff.

http://skullymammoth.bandcamp.com/

I also suspect this site will be rather useful to you:

You could try Grindcore Karaoke, if you like grind as well as DM. Links to a lot of bandcamps, all free downloads.

Yo, people should do this. Jute Gyte is really amazing.

My bandcamp is in my sig for those of you who like Drone/Doom/Noise. It's lo-fi, minimalist stuff. You can get it by donating 0$ as well.

Wanted to spread the word of some new USBM acts. All of them are extremely talented, young bands, one of which autothrall had a glowing review for.

Infera Bruo progressive BM that reminds me of Enslaved or <code> at times. Undeniably professional craftsman ship, progressive without pretense, still very black metal.

In Human Form "Technical" Black metal, but technical in the sense that these guys play REALLY tightly. Vicious riffs and drums played at the precision of a knife's edge. There is such intense energy in the four songs (FREE songs!) on their site, they're definitely on my watch list.

Great doom metal from England. Released the best demo of 2011 imo.

I'm inclined to agree. It's a challenging listen, certainly not background-music, but it's also rewarding as heck when you listen to it with all of your attention.

I've scoured Bandcamp for stuff quite frequently, The bands which I enjoy end up being absorbed into my general-listening;

Petrychor: Post rock, black-metal and folk in an interesting mixture. There was a lot of noise about the début album last year.

Akelei: Epic sounding doom-metal with really top-notch male and female vocals, I'm told it's got a Gothic sound, but I didn't know that when I got into them. One of my personal favourite finds from the website.

Embers: Symphonic (using real instruments, I believe) black-metal with crust influences. These guys are a band I need to listen to more.

Judd Madden: One man Australian stoner-doom project, really crushing, instrumental stuff, with a variety of styles - a few "heavy" albums, along with some with much softer material.

Bädr Vogu: Really interesting bluesy crust with some really nice grooves. Sounds a bit like modern-era Darkthrone playing Load-era Metallica.

I've actually been frequenting Bindrune Recordings' bandcamp page for the first three Blood of the Black Owl albums and Wodensthrone's Loss.

EDIT: Relapse also has a huge amount of albums on there as well:
