I wish I was good enough to just learn and play by ear... but I've never really sat around to learn anyone's song.

I mostly meant that it really helps to hear it while reading a transcription. If a rhythm isn't really simple, it takes a while to count it out and get it up to speed. I tend to phrase notes a bit differently when I first hear it when I play it slower. Weird habit, but I find it easier to read + hear it.

OOoooh yea i agree totally. And I count shit differently as well in how things are played. esp if some really weird timing. I don't even think o the timing I just count as the riff phrase.

You want me to separate each of the guitars in different sheets? Can do it in a second if you need.

I'm uploading an mp3 now, edit in a second.
Here it is, had to split it because it fucked up while exporting.

Sometimes counting is necessary. Complex rhythms combined with polyrhythmic drums is one case. If the drummer plays like a metronome, then maybe not, but mine doesn't, and I think I actually prefer it that way.

I haven't had a chance to play guitar much for the past two weeks, I haven't even picked it up in a week. I'm not going to be able to finish this challenge with decent quality because I've had to deal with other stuff.

I'm deeply sorry about this, but I'll have to drop out of the challenge. Writing the song has taken me too long. Plus, I'm starting school in less than two weeks, so I need to get my shit ready and thus, don't have the time to record anything. And even if I could, I'd still need a vocalist collab. I could just make it an instrumental song, but the instrumental itself sounds nothing like DM and more like a Summoning clone.

recorded the guitars today, but I don't think that I will be able to record the vocals since I had a sore throat and I'm still recovering... PhilosophicalFrog, are you still up for helping with the vocals?

I think we'll do just that. I've received a couple of submissions, but in hopes of receiving more, the deadline will be Sunday, fourth of March.

Same problem. My song will probably have black metal vocals since the sound of those suffers much less than that of deep growls, whose depth is already dubious even when I'm completely healthy.

I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to help you garthmargengi. it's just too foreign to me to try to play someone else's tabs and riffs.

Hmm, I see the deadline was extended. I might try to get the recording done, then.

It's a decent amount. Ten and I'll be happy.

Well I will get it to 9 so you will at least end up almost happy. At this point it is just a question as to whether I can get some vocals recorded or have it be yet another instrumental.

I could probably send mine off in it's current state if I did a few rasps over the top but I'd rather take the extra couple of days to get some decent drums and vocals. That makes ten though, so you won't be dissapointed :)

If I ever manage to submit mine, it will be the last guitar-centered one for a while. I have to get replacement screws and do some repairs to the trem. *sigh*

If I were healthy I'd offer my vocal services, but my voice is gone and I won't pretend that my gargling over someone's song would make any improvement over being instrumental.

Submitted. Doing vocals for the first time in nearly 10 years wasn't great feeling but I am glad to have a song with all the usual elements to submit. I was kind of surprised I could somewhat still pull off metal vocals but we will see how everyone likes it.

On the other hand, if you gargled with salt water over someone's song it might make you feel healthier.

no problem, wish I could've helped out more.. I'm more of a drummer than a guitarist anyway. I can pretty much play drums to anything presented.

Yeah I'm out, didn't even get much of anything started. Kinda hard when you're trying to move into a new place the whole time.

Was hoping I could get in on this but oh well.

I've recorded the vocals today, thought this is the first time I do death metal vocals, it went good I guess...except for that I'm gonna lose my voice for couple more days.
anyways, the song should be ready by tomorrow...the extension of deadline helped a lot.

The tradition is to start a new thread for download links and reviews.

I did death metal vocals, but then felt like the twist wasn't hard enough and switch to black with death backups

I sent my drums in the raw to Xanzotire... hopefully he can get them and do what needs to be done. if nothing else I can post his song instrumentally with the guitars he sent me and my drums.

I might need to settle with you doing that, I'm using my parents wireless router at the moment and they've blocked filesharing sites because my sister kept downloading dodgy stuff. Google documents usually works for me when I'm sending files to people though. If you can upload to that and PM me the link. Though to be honest it doesn't look like I'll have much time to mix and the track remains sans vocals so you might as well not bother and just send it to Ilywhan as is. Frankly I'm satisifed that I even managed to get the bass and guitars recorded let alone drums.

Essentially you have till some time on Monday. Since I announced merely Sunday as deadline, I don't plan on cutting it off at some arbitrary point. Regardless of your time zone, you'll have all Sunday to finish your thing.
