So Proscriptor's kick drums on Tara absolutely have to be triggered, right? I didn't think achieving such a mechanically consistent sound, especially at those blinding rates, would quite be humanly possible without triggers. But then again, I am no drum demigod, so I figured I'd ask.

THE SCENE: I go over to a girl's house, I hope for something to happen.

THE BAD NEWS: She's on her period, so therefore most options are exhausted.

THE WORST PART: Having explosive, painful, and smelly bright green diarrhea and trying to have it quietly without her hearing it (and failing miserably).

THE ACTUAL WORST PART: Hearing her in the bathroom above me, shitting just as violently.

Least erotic night ever.

The only reason I'm not sigging this is for discretion.

Yeah in hindsight I probably should have just kept this one to myself. I tell these stories in the interest of comedy, but if I'm crossing a line, I'll stiffen up the filter. Sorry about that.

well, it was pretty funny. I think my "red badge of honour" story is better, but that's to be shared amongst the elite only.

Man, Borealis. Power/progfrom canada, and oddly good stuff. While I think the review scores on the archives may be a little high for these guys, they still have two solid albums. They don't have any one 'super' outstanding element, but with deep vocals and a strong instrumental backup, these guys are awesome. They seem to suffer a bit on song 'sameyness', but their second album improves on this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyig2cScAjk

They just are a solid band, not really many flaws you can poke at.

I see your Borealis and raise you one Instanzia. Also Canadian, also distinctly power/prog, also fucking incredible. They have loads of keyboards, but they never become overpowering, they're insanely catchy without becoming vapidly poppy, and 7 tracks of pretty much constant speed with nary a filler song in sight and without suffering from sameyness at all. Oh, and the implementation of piano in a lot of the songs is incredibly well done too. I urge everyone who likes this kind of music to check these guys out ASAP.

Talk about the existence of said good story in front of the unwashed masses, then leave them pining for it?

Why haven't Dave Mustaine and Jon Schaffer done a project or something together? They seem like they'd get along well.

Mr. Mustaine would like a word with you, the fact is its virtually impossible to get along with the man, don't get me wrong I adore him and all his works, but I'd never EVER get on a fucking plane next to him nor would I ask someone else to take the same fate.

To be fair, when I saw them live he nailed everything and didn't use triggers (his bass drums were mic'd but that's different) though I can totally understand taking the steps in the studio to make your shit sound EXACTLY how you want.

So, High on Fire has a new one coming out in April. There's not enough info to make a thread about it but I thought I'd mention it. I wasn't crazy about Snakes For The Divine, but I still think they've got it in them to make a kick ass album.

With the frequency, these are starting to sound like fake Tucker Max type stories.

Wow. Could very well be triggered in the studio just for aesthetics' sake, but also might be naturally mic'd with particular drum strikers/heads geared for an extra sharp sound, or possibly EQ'd a bit for extra bite. It's fun not knowing exactly how musicians get their sounds, though. Thanks for the feedback.

Hmm... maybe Bastardhead is using a little bit of hyperbole, but I guess the core of most of his stories are true.

I remember reading an interview with Proscriptor where he stated that he triggered the bass drums to be louder. He said something along the lines of "I can either go faster and hit softer, or slower and louder. I wanted to do both in this case."

His recent story made me laugh loud though.

The ''my 500 most important metal albums of all time'' makes me laugh, too. First of all it's totally spam material and second he's not even up for a discussion or asks what we think of it...more like ''OK HERE'S MY LIST, DO WITH IT WHAT YOU WANT''. Guess it will be locked soon.

Urgh, I hate having a stuffy nose. :(

I realize with the frequency they do probably sound fake, but I assure you haven't made any of these up or even embellished details. Honestly, this stuff seems to happen in spurts, and I'll likely go six months without anything funny happening to me soon enough. I guess the material comes at such a pace because I'm an awkward guy with a penchant for putting myself in stupid situations.

Also re: Tucker Max, I thought he was amazing at first but I quickly grew tired of his schtick. He seems to be compared to Maddox a lot, and I would take Maddox every time for one particular reason. Maddox seems to be a bit more self aware, he makes jokes about his shitty job and small dick and throws in the obviously satirical lines like HAHA I WIN EAT MY SHIT LOSERS and stuff like that. Tucker Max on the other hand, believes he actually is the hottest shit this side of Pompeii and everybody should bow to him because he's the alpha male and such. So basically, Maddox seems like a bitter asshole who plays it up for comedy while Tucker seems like a pretty boy jock asshole who fucks my girlfriend and gives me swirlies. He's a great writer and his stories are hilarious, but the smug sense of superiority behind it all just irks me.

I don't mind his sheer narcissism, he's become more self-aware over time anyways. I read his stuff to laugh out loud, and it generally accomplishes it's purpose. Beyond that, it dosen't affect me. A lot of writers are pretty despicable.
