Yeah, for sure. Even though I'm not putting a song in for this one, I'm gonna post reviews.

I know the anticipation is killing.

I'm doing this huge thing so I'm keeping me involved and less anxious.

Well, with the funerals and shit I've been behind, but made some progress tonight...so far, the twist is pretty rad and comes out of nowhere. I guarantee it's gonna sound different than anything else.

I finished recording mine, I'm thinking I'll leave out vocals for now since I can't record vocals in my apartment. Also, since this is definitely going to be music for my band, I'd like to write all of the music before developing a concept lyrically. I'm going to attempt to mix it tomorrow and hopefully have it completely done soon.

It's actually more like two songs with a short interlude in between but I'd like to present it as one piece.

FUUUUUUUUU------

my goddamn pickups decided to just shit on me. At least, I think it's my pickups. Gonna have to get my guitar looked at. This may be a costly delay.

Fix it yourself! We can help, just let us know what type of guitar it is and exactly what is going wrong (no sound? scratchy noise?) Are there multiple pickups? Is one of them working?

First, pop the cover off the electronics cavity. Check all the connections to make sure nothing is loose, and make sure the pots/knobs are solidly attached (wiring breaks if it gets turned too). You can check to see if a connection might be broken by gently wiggling wires while the guitar is plugged into the amp, and seeing what creates noise. Wiggling the wires to the pickups can generally identify which wire might be bad.

I haven't seen pickups simply go bad one day, so it might be something easier to fix.

Yo, fixed that shit, niggggaaa. It was just wiring that came out :D so I just had to connect it and make sure they stayed on.

awesome deal! I just finished wrapping up my overall mix for what I completed... now I'm going to burn it to a cd and see what other final tweaks I want to do.

I think I'm going to be a bit late (again). Reason being, I'm learning/struggling to use multiband sidechain compression, which is an amazing tool but unfortunately a pain in the ass to setup with my current mix. Might have to tear things down and start from anew, which will probably take me more than 10 days (have to find the time) but it's definitely worth it if I can pull it off.

Man, these challenges are really awesome. Learning new things every time.

I'm going to do some finishing touches today, gotta debate a few parts, if I'll keep em or not. There's a rough "completed" mix, but who knows. Might trash most of it and rework it.

Ok, bass back on home, now I just need some time to do all the proper recording, might do two different songs if I can.

Maybe I'm just too old school, but I don't understand why it takes some people so long to do their song. I wrote my song and fully recorded it in less than an hour.

Distractions, lack of motivation and poor availability of recording space, equipment and fellow musicians easily prolongs the recording. Most of us probably don't have a well-established recording space, let alone a routine, and it's all new to them.

I'll email my song this evening, I went up and above. So that's my reasoning of delay than my normal 2 day return on a song.

For me it's about trying to do better each time in the songwriting aspect, but also in the audio aspect as well. I love to try new things, new techniques, and I'd hate to be stuck with one sound. These challenges have been a good push to breaking my own limits.

I used to be able to do that when I wrote music on a more frequent basis, but now it usually takes me much longer than an hour. There are times in my life when I do not even have an hour free to myself for several days, and when I do music is not always my first priority. A lot of people are similarly situated, I imagine having 2 jobs, children, or some other obligation is fairly common for musicians. For me its my 12 hour long daily tap dancing lessons that take up all of my time, but damn can I dance.

Also what everyone else has said applies for me as well, i.e. trying to improve, limited recording space, and getting distracted.

You study tap dancing? Do you think you could sample yourself doing some for one of my death metal songs? If you're not doing that already for your own song, of course.

Sorry I was just joking around and didn't expect anyone to take that part seriously, :(. If its any consolation bet you guys in Hellige could make a really cool song using a tap dancing sample though because y'all are fucking awesome so I am naturally pumped to see what you come up with for the challenge.

I think I'm actually doing it on my own since I don't know if we'll have time to gather around with the guitarist, shame you don't actually tap dance, it could have worked added to one of the two songs which is less serious, but well, watcha gonna do.
Thanks for the compliments by the way!

If I attempted to do it with my band, it would have taken longer, for us all to get together, and learn the song. So, since i just did it all myself, it was easier and quicker, though if it was more based on sound and production, the full band recording would sound better. Well, lack of real drums is probably my weakest element. But I think it sounded good. Might even use it with the band later.

Well, I hadn't recorded myself until now and now I face a big problem: after only two months playing bass -not surprisingly-, my playing is very sloppy. Goddammit now I hope I can get the guitarist from my band to help me with this.

I'll write the stuff down to gpx and pdf and upload it later today, I don't think it's actually hard, it's just that I'm a newbie.

I don't have guitar pro. it's actually easier if you just write it on a sheet of paper and scan it in. I'm very old school in that aspect.

Well, this is tidier than my shitty handwriting, I provided the basslines also for reference in case it helps reading.
It's just the first part though, gonna take a nap now and continue later.

TuxGuitar is free and can open/play GP files if you need something for that. Playing by ear is pretty old school too :P
