Yep, with slight 70s hard rock and doom elements. Awesome.

Edit: thanks, thread, for starting a new page and making me look like a raving lunatic.

Pallbearer have some really boring, generic, chugging riffs.

Nice to see I'm not the only one who thought that. I can't remember anything at all from the track I listened to, except that it was mind-numbingly boring. I mean, if you're going to play traditional doom, you'd better belt out some bitchin' riffs to keep my interest.

Anyways, the only full albums I've liked (thus far) were Alcest's Les voyages de l'âme and Dodecahedron's self-titled.

I wasn't very impressed with em at Rites of Darkness either.

and yeah that Horrendous is just sick. If it was a 2011 album it probably woulda made my top 10 list.

Alcest - Les Voyages de l'Âme (pretty good; I wish they would've kept some of the black metal influence instead of full-on shoegaze rock)
Aborted - Global Flatline (good, interesting album)
Abigail Williams - Becoming (terrific album; wasn't very interested in their previous stuff, but this album is great)
Psycroptic - The Inherited Repression (probably my favorite album so far; great tech death)
Pallbearer - Sorrow and Extinction (really dug this album; catchy doom metal)

"Lamb of God - Resolution" and "Chimp Spanner - All Roads Lead Here" were kinda meh. I've got Dodecahedron and Desecravity lined up to listen to. Looking forward to "Eluveitie - Helvetios" next Tuesday.

Gonna agree with everyone else on the Abigail Williams, it's an amazing album. Read my review for the new album on the archives! Good shit!

Abyssal's Denouement is by far the best release this year thus far. Richly textured and abrasive technical black/death with a bleak aesthetic and great use of chromaticisms.

Charon's Sulphur Seraph (The Archon Principle) wasn't bad either. Very dense black/death/thrash.

Desecravity is cool too, but I'm having trouble getting past the wank. I'll have to give this one another try.

Behold! The Monolith's Defender, Redeemist is pretty solid stoner/doom with harsh vocals. I really liked it but I need to listen more.

Psycroptic's was alright. I'm feeling a 7/10 after listening through it. The vocals aren't as much an issue for me but the production is awfully tinny.

Alcest's Les Voyages was garbage just like Escailles De Lune but I find blackgaze in general to be extremely trite and uninspired.

Still need to cover Dodecahedron, Fukpig, Black Pyramid, and Corpse Garden.

Joining the Abigail Williams bandwagon. My third fav of the year so far. Epic album and great use of violins. I was speculating a rather shitty album from them

I don't like Aborted, but this one seems to be quite popular so I guess I'll give it ago. Any specific reason why it is so much better than their usual sterile chuggy bullshit? Still haven't heard anything that would break my top 30 from last year.

It's the first Aborted I actually enjoyed, that alone says a lot. But don't get your hopes too high, it isn't the saviour of 2012, just a consistent and solid album. ;)

The new Azaghal full-length (Nemesis) is fucking amazing! I liked the live DVD of God Seed (Gaahl and King) too. Now waiting for new Burzum and Sigh.

I found it more varied than Teraphim (which I enjoyed) and prefer the new vocalist to the previous (who was good too). Pure win for me.

The new Asphyx is absolutely fucking devastating. I seriously can't believe how good this shit is.
It's an album of the year contender already in my opinion.

I thought it was good, not great. So far my top three albums (Asphyx, Napalm Death and Drudkh in order) are just the bands doing their thing in a capable fashion, nothing all that impressive yet, Deathhammer would get something the low 80s from me.

Everyone who would choose the new Psycroptic over the new Asphyx. Autopsy, Aborted, Napalm Death, Drudkh are mentally warped.

Deathhammer is pretty fucking great, but it sounds more like Hail of Bullets than it does Asphyx. The only thing that really keeps the the same feel in any way is the fact they still have the slow downtrodden riffs that drag on and on. It's good shit, but it's pretty obvious that Asphyx is going to be just another one of the bands that has their side projects affecting the overall sound of their flagship.

The Napalm Death is the best conceptual so far and it is pretty different from recent albums, or really any record of theirs for that matter. It's just as abrasive as before, but Utilitarian has a lot more diversity in the music than the majority of their past releases. Barney's vocals have also evolved a great deal. They are less guttural, and the production job makes them a little more stripped down sounding.

Aborted's Global Flatline is spectacular. The last few albums were so boring and treading on deathcore, but they have really incorporated their old style with a faster twist. Granted, it is much different than before, but atleast it is deathgrind again. I had a feeling this new record would be good, because of how surprised I was with Coronary Reconstruction. I thought with a title like that, it would be a back to basics offering, and it pretty much was. The only thing that I think Global Flatline is lacking is a thicker and more powerful production job. If it had the package sound of Goremageddon, I think we might've been given another pinnacle record from them. But still, Global Flatline is leaps and bounds better than recent old shit. It's been the first time in almost ten years that I have been excited about seeing what else this band is going to do.

I see alot of Drudkh fans not being too thrilled with ETOTW, but I think it's fucking great. Granted, this isn't coming from a Drudkh fan. Not that I dislike them, but this this new record is the first I have heard from start to finish. I've only listened to a handful of their earlier work. And right from the start it is pretty apparent that this album is more musically involved and less ambient than their other stuff. This is the one band so far whose new release is really going to open me up to the rest of their catalog.

Not much of a need in my eyes to elaborate on the new Autopsy. It's terrific, just as every one of their other releases has been. The new master jobs sounds much better than the old EPs, they are more clear, but haven't lost any of their grimy charm.. The new tracks were pretty awesome as well, but I still sort of prefer Macabre Eternal over them.

Goatwhore's Blood For The Master is probably my favorite record by Goatwhore thus far, with the exception of Funeral Dirge. I love how stripped down the sound of the album is, it doesn't have an unnecessarily layered sound that the last couple records had, Goatwhore's music just doesn't fit that in my opinion. Yeah, it's a pretty generic album title, but fuck it, the tracks speak for themselves.

So the new (old) Van Halen album.

Yeah I agree with the new aborted, reeally good shit It feels like they are getting back to their roots with this one, Especially because Strychnine.213 was just terrible. I also agree with Dodecahedron that's some seriously fucked up and amazing sounding black metal!
I'd like to recommend Pilgrim's new album Misery Wizard that came out this year, good shit if you're into doom.
If you're into DSBM which I know a lot people are not keep an eye out for Make A Change... Kill Yourself's new album being released this year.
