Thrash Metal help thread post unsuccesfull, was wondering if I could get some assistance!

Dear Thrash gods, I am looking for more progressive material, in the vein of New York's Children:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IK7bDO4Da9Y

... But not so similiar as to be a clone or something. I like good production, so preferably something more modern. If anyone could point me in the direction of a couple of names, that would be great! This may shock you, but I have heard of Watchtower already ;)

I wonder if title of his debut EP contains some subtle reference to Morbid Angel or something.

Unsurprisingly, the music is some of the most boring trad metal I have ever heard. "Shred" my ass...

Not really getting the mediocre reviews here for Absu's Abzu. Listening to it for the first time now, I have to say I like it more than the last record and it grips me just as much as any of their other material ever did, and moreso in a lot of cases. Sure, it's not as though they've brought something incredibly new to the table in terms of their own style, but I'd say this work is at least on par with the rest of the upper echelon of their catalogue.

The only negative thing I can say about that record is that it is a little to short. Other than that, amazing album.

Just heard Absu's ''Stone of Destiny''. I really liked the high clean vocals on this track. I need to hear more of this band.

The production on Absu has a blunted, dampened sound to it that I think hurts the music slightly. Absu's style is very well-suited to sharp production with emphasis on details in the treble frequencies, which really amplifies their ripping aesthetics...the softer sound on Absu doesn't really do the material justice. It's still a good album, though.

Downloading the Zeitgeist films right now. I've never seen them before, except for the first half of the first movie, which I feel asleep during last night. Seems interesting to say the least.

Meh, my favourite Absu album will always be Tara. Manannan is a beast of a song, and the drumming is just so fucking catchy!

The drums are indeed great. Seems like the guitar sound a bit low in the mix. Could be just me though. Think this album will be a grower.

The guitars are often mixed a bit too low for my liking in Absu's material, which is sort of a shame, as the riffwork tends to get a bit lost. I find their stuff doesn't grab me nearly as much on stereo as it does with headphones, where the layers and details are a lot more perceptible. Revisiting some of The Third Storm of Cythraul with headphones, I'm definitely finding a lot more to like in it. I can actually hear the guitars, which is a great improvement. In the Eyes of Ioldanach is pretty ripping stuff, a wonderful appendix to Tara.

I also feel the need to mention I really enjoy Proscriptor's vocal work. It's great how it doesn't fully subscribe to any particular genre norm, rather content to be its own wild-maned beast altogether, inhabiting an intriguing grey area between masculine and feminine. Also nice is how the variation and elusion of classification in the vocals lends the entire body of music some of that indefinable air, imbuing a lot of Absu's work with its own unique personality or identity. If the vocals confined themselves to typical black metal stylings, the music as a whole would feel a lot more generic, methinks.

About Absu: I second the complaint that the delicious riffs are usually too low and the drums too loud. I can just see Proscriptor in the studio like "No! LOUDER! They must know how good a drummer I am!" Doesn't stop me from listening to Absu of course...

At least his drum work doesn't waste the spotlight. It'd be total bullshit if the mix were imbalanced and the drumming was mediocre. Lower-mixed drums are usually more to my taste, but there's something about the flavor of Absu's music that seems to welcome the more prominent drum levels, or at least not get spoiled by them. There's enough interesting and intricate stuff going on rhythmically that the mixing at least feels justifiable.

I'd rather keep talking about Absu, personally.

We actually had some good hearted fun, really. Went to the arcades (no, I'm not kidding), had a very lengthy chat about life in general while drinking coffee at a cool place I know and finally we went to see a movie. We'll repeat it when we find the time.

Yeah, sorry for the lack of a fun and/or embarrassing story.
