As we are all aware of, Metal is a very diverse genre. There is metal music for every type of person out there, be it the classical fan, the electro fan, the rap fan etc. etc.
But as much as I like to praise metal as the most diverse and professional genre of alternative music (aside from prog), I've been wondering about Metal's ability to convey emotions lately.
Not emotions like anger or feelings of intensity. That one goes without saying. And I suppose SDBM bands have it somewhat down in creating a sense of despair and sadness through their music.
But is that it? Is that all the emotions that Metal music can convey? What about all the other emotions?

This lead me to thinking about Metal music as used in soundtracks. Usually the only times I hear Metal music in soundtracks is when there is something intense going on. And honestly, I'm a bit sick of it.
I want to see if Metal can be used to accompany happier moments. Romance, maybe? Reunion with loved ones? Relief? Or maybe just some more subtle and/or somber moments.

Is this possible? Can the most diverse and professional genre amongst alternative music do this?
If you guys know of any Metal that can be used as soundtrack music for anything other than action scenes, please share them.

You might already know them, but Czechnical death metal band Lykathea Aflame's only album Elvenefris strikes me as a very heart-warming, happy album.

Isis have some songs that get really triumphant and uplifting, specifically the closing tracks on their last two albums. Altered Course is also pretty relaxing at times.

You should check some of Devin Townsend's solo bands, they're AWESOME!

Good call, the exact artist I was thinking of when I read the OP. Def worth delving into Wolfboy, Devin has some outstanding works across all his albums and projects and can create some great emotions, he uses alot of ambient keyboard work in the background of alot of his stuff and it sounds a treat. Devin Townsend, Devin Townsend Project, Devin Townsend Band and Ocean Machine, all different projects but they achieve a similar goal. Music can be agressive, soft, beautiful, uplifting etc I think he just about covers all with his work.

Also have to mention one I forgot, Dekadent's "deliverence of the fall", a quality listen, if you manage to track down a physical copy it comes with an extremely well shot film version DVD of the album and it works a treat!
