Hey guys. I think this is specific enough to warrant a thread outside of the BM help thread. What I'm looking for is VERY raw black metal, production should NOT be good. The more obscure and mysterious the band is, the better. Mid-tempo is preferred but fast or slow is fine as well. There should be a good deal of "pretty" going on in the music. I'm not looking for folky, pagan type stuff really, but melody and RAWness. Here are some of the songs that inspired this post.

Nuklearenpest - Ancestral Desecration
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mt3N92URjSE

Volahn - Soledad en Despertar
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35waS8BFIXQ

Hrimthursen - Frost
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZv0F6Pt1qo

P.S. I'm looking for full albums working mostly within these parameters. I'm already aware of the Black Twilight Circle and Rhinocervs, as well. National Socialism should be avoided, too.

Check out Nordwind from Germany I know the production is decent but it maintains a lot of rawness and it does have a pretty vibe with lots of melody

Also for really bad production check out Griffar from France. The melodies are great though.

Oh and Meadow in Silence from Sweden

Since you dig Black Twilight Circle/Rhinocervs stuff, you should enjoy Ash Borer, Fell Voices, and Bosse-De-Nage, id you don't already listen to them.

Thanks for the rec's guys. Meadow in Silence is probably the closest of those three for me. They synth on Nordwind totally ruins it for me. Griffar was pretty close, but it just didn't grab me for some reason. Crust, I've ignored Ash Borer and Fell Voices so far. I don't know why, I think I was just being contrary but I'll try them out. I've never heard of Bosse de Nage, but I'll give that a listen as well.

Keep the rec's coming!

OK, after a quick sampling of each of those bands, Bosse-de-Nage is the clear winner for me. closer to what I'm looking for, less of the Cascadian trappings of the other two bands.

You should try Vlad Tepes's side one the "March to the Black Holocaust" split.

Schattenvald does fit the bill, I think. Gotta love those barking vocals.

You should definitely check out Horn's stuff, too. The rawness you want can probably only be found until and including the guy's first album, but his melodies and riffs are incredible.

Also, if you don't know Angantyr, you should instantly listen to this:

Yeah, this is a great suggestion for pretty much anyone looking for new black metal. These guys have such a great catalog and their style is so versatile. They bring so many elements of different genres and subgenres to the table.

Pogrom (France) and Gestapo 666 come to mind. Also Mortualia and Blood Red Fog.

Horna hit the nail on the head. I remember listening to those guys years ago and loving them, but I sort of fell out of black metal shortly after for whatever reason. The Vlad Tepes Track is also right on the money. Sargeist is close, but it's not doing it for me. Too fast for this request, and in I'd rather just listen to Darkthrone. Wow Schattenvald is really good, but it's not quite what I'm looking for. I gotta be honest, the 120 second into to the Angantyr song left me frustrated, and then the music that followed wasn't bad but it isn't at all what I'm looking for. Alghazanth isn't' even close.

Thank's guys!

Here are a few that may or may not be to your liking. Some being more melodic than others.

Arcane Necrosis
All The Cold
Borgne
Eru
Funeral Veil
Gnome
Grand Nocturne
Jahresringe

To expand on a few recommendations:

Vlad Tepes - the splits had their best production, but the Broullions I + II demos are good too, no vocals but you should like those. Also check out their side project Seviss, you might be interested. Most of the other bands from that group were much less melodic, though you may also enjoy Mutiilation and Torgeist (make sure you get the reissues of their demos, most other copies are unlistenable)

Horna+Sargeist - Behexen are similar, they also share members.

Mhorgl: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdOpFD7Y0YE don't know if you like the production

Zwartplaag: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNC_oOmr7H8 I think this fits the description of being raw yet melodic. The songs are lengthy though

Maybe forgotten tomb. Raw, and has some very melodic acoustic songs.
