Hey there,
I just re-submitted the Band "Kroh", as the first submission was rejected because I was told to wait until today (11th of november) when the debut album is released.

Now, I suddenly see that another page of Kroh already exists which was added Added on: 2011-11-05. While my page was rejected just a few days before that date.

I do not only find this kind of unfair, but also do I not understand WHY such thing happens.

Thank you.

Sounds like an honest mistake. It has happened few times before and probably will again. For the sake of consistency regarding site rules, the present entry should of course have been rejected until today. Maybe the exact release date was not included in the present entry, and the initial submission 'only' included proof of a valid discography.

Anyway, the band is here now.

EDIT: If you were already aware of the rules, why did you submit the band in advance of their official release date?
EDIT again: Yeah, you were first told about the rule in the first rejection note, I just had to read your post again. So nevermind.

You should've been paying more attention to their Facebook; they announced that the special edition of their debut release was sent early on the 6th:

It isn't unusual for bands or labels to ship the special/limited editions early to those who pre-ordered them.

Also strange that the date should show-up as the 5th of November when it was submitted (and the record shipped) on the 6th... probably just the time difference.

Pre-orders are often shipped before the official release date, so that at the day of the release they may reach the first customers. The link you posted http://www.facebook.com/XKrohX/posts/285667704801075 clearly says "Official release date is tomorrow", that is today, so you shouldn't have submitted it before today.

Why not? There's a damn good chance the orders would've already reached UK residents before the 11th... probably even the same day they shipped if they were close enough to Birmingham.

I was once told by a mod (probably Witcher) that the day a debut release ships is the day you can add a band to MA. So, I didn't see anything wrong with submitting them when I did. >_>

Then, how do you think, what is the purpose of official release date? In case of "big" bands users tend to submit them before the release date, and then there are lots of complains with users arguing that the album is already available for pre-order or already shipped. We should stick to the official release date if the band/label themselves have defined it in order to avoid such complains.

The policy over the years has been to wait for the official release date, regardless of prior circumstances (pre-orders, etc.). Following the official release date qualifies for upholding some level of consistency and, most important, validity that the work has been released widely and legitimately. Nevertheless, it is at mod discretion when those qualifications have been reached. In this case, it probably would have been better to wait the 6 days for the sake of avoiding this type of complaint.

However, because the page is already on the site, and the release date has passed, it wont be removed and replaced. In all honesty, no matter what level of prestige or fairness might have been achieved otherwise, the end product remains true. The page is up, it is ready to be updated at one's leisure, and - as with all pages - the person who uploaded the page has no extraordinary power to edit it as anyone else would. Kevmaster, I am sorry that circumstances turned out the way they did with the band page, but please don't let that dishearten you from continuing to work on the database.

*shrugs* Good question, and I always figured the "official release date" was supposed to be the date a band was added. But I've seen bands added before because of orders being sent early, and since I was only going by what I believe Witcher once told me, I figured it was appropriate to submit the band on said date.

Yeah, makes sense.

It's not a rule set in stone, but a guideline to try to follow to the best of one's abilities.

Well, it's been disambiguated now.

Truth be told, I wasn't even expecting the draft to be accepted the day I submitted it... I always gathered that it was marginally acceptable (or at least not unacceptable) to submit a band a few days before the release date, after which it would be approved. Which would give mods the chance to size up other member's band drafts and decide which one was the most complete/accurate.

Alright, it's not that much of a biggie. It was just kind of a letdown and I was wondering how it happened. I'll still keep contributing!
