At the Drive-In is another band. They really had everything. I think that if they didn't break up, they would be something big today.

That's basically would have been my answer. I love the Doors and ATDI.

Weird Al Yankovic has alway been a favorite of mine. As well as Warren Zevon (R.I.P). Both of them were just excelent preformers. Even months before Zevon's passing, he still put on one hell of a preformance on Letterman.

Accepted. I've never been a fan of anything labeled "Progressive" essentially, and Rush is pretty much the staple prog band.

Even though I am not from england, I think that Yes is a good band. They are anything but metal, but I think that at times, their music is quite infectious and hypnotizing.

AC/DC and The Divinyls. During the 1980s heavy rock/rock scene I reckon Australian bands dominated pretty well.

I like Heitor Villa Lobos, Almir Sater and Adoniran Barbosa. I usually hate brazilian music, these are the only exceptions.

Sorry for the necro here... But I prefered to use this thread instead of creating a new one :-P

So, I've never been too much into national bands, but lately I've heard some nice indie/alternative rock/reggae bands from my country, Venezuela, some are more chill oriented music like Rawayana, Los Mesoneros and Lebronch, and others are more alt. rock like La Vida Boheme, The Asbestos and Viniloversus, if you are interested to hear new music, give them a chance. :-D

Rawayana

Lebronch

Los Mesoneros

Viniloversus

La Vida Boheme

The Asbestos <--- They sing in english.

Just wanted to share some Venezuelan music n_n

That's a tough one, I don't listen to much that isn't metal other than classic Disney songs, but that's not really a band so I don't think that counts... hmmm... now and then I listen to Tool and they're American, so I guess that'll have to do.

Well, I was raised on country music, so usually when I'm not listening to metal I'm cranking George Strait or someone similar. Not a band, but whatever.
A friend of mine also got me quite into Incubus, which I never thought would happen. The vocals can still sound a little too poppy for my taste from time to time, but the musicianship is just remarkable. Morning View and Light Grenades, to be specific.

Swans are easily my favorite American band. One of the few bands with a big discography whom I think has never released a mediocre album. It would be easy to pick The Jimi Hendrix Experience as well, though the two lesser parts of the group were British. Fiona Apple is my favorite American solo artist.

This is tough question. Probably Stone Temple Pilots or Stevie Ray Vaughan. I really, really love pretty much all of STP's discography, and SRV's Texas Flood is one of the greatest albums ever (in any genre). Runners up include N.W.A. and Joe Satriani.

From the Faroe Islands? It has to be either Gipsy Train (Ska/Reggae/Lo-Fi/Rock) or ORKA a band that uses purely instruments, which they've created from material found in a set place (The first one was a particular barn, and included acid bottles and buzz saws).

A lot of bands, especially ones that were popular in the 90s, are really shit now. but here's some favourite tracks of mine:

Frenzal Rhomb (their latest album was called Smoko at the Pet Food Factory. Brilliant):

Icehouse (esp. the Man of Colours album):

The Living End (first album is fucking AMAZING):

I don't like many french bands, metal or not, but I love these guys:

Varsovie - État Civil
http://youtu.be/8F4S6S261rs
Varsovie - L'Art de la Fugue
http://youtu.be/5fCP-K7DL2Q

My favorite "new" post-punk band and probably favorite french band.
(They feature members from Forbidden Site by the way)

I enjoy a number of australian band's music. I am only 18 however, so i have mostly been exposed to Australian bands through the radio/music channels and my dad's music collection, so i only know a couple of songs from most of these bands (The songs i have linked, plus a couple more that might be played on the radio). Also i don't enjoy them to the point where i listen to them on a regular basis, i enjoy them more in a 'if a song of theirs i recognized were to come on the radio, i wouldn't turn it off' sort of way

The older bands whose music i somewhat enjoy include
Icehouse:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mkidP2OUCk
Rose Tattoo:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeTBsQmMEpw
Split Enz (although they are from new zealand):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fbjnEUC4qo&feature=fvst
Crowded House:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyBKzBtaKWM
Midnight Oil:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejorQVy3m8E
INXS:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egDJc1HhiZ4
Little River Band:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6C7GP81w-00&feature=fvst
The Choirboys:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIUmO-O00Zw
The Angels:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1vHA0QGv6c
Australian Crawl:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIrUqsB-0vw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Avw1ddNH ... re=related

And some of the relatively newer bands (mid 2000's) include
Airbourne (The only band on this that i make an effort to listen to):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_tMjx4fz-Q
The Living End:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prjVGQWNyE4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFnWjV2v ... ure=relmfu
Powder Finger:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZeuWoIBuo8
Kisschasy:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZjomvoxAx0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWlGMAG-Uw8
Silverchair:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osxehkL4628&feature=fvst
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=heQi0AZBH-0

This is all i can think of at the moment there are probably a couple more that fellow aussies might be able to remind me of

That would be Knorkator. I wouldn't call them a metal band though many of their songs use metallic elements. Basically they combine electronic, industrial, metal, rock and countless other things to ridiculously exaggerated, dramatic music, satirizing more or less everyone and everything. The lyrics, normally bordering on the absurd, really play an important role in this, so the concept is mostly lost to anyone who doesn't speak german.

Their concerts are pretty insane too.

If that's too metal for you, I'll take hardcore punk band Hammerhead.

AC/DC and especially Airbourne are pretty arguably metal. Airbourne play metal festivals every year and almost all their fans are metalheads. AC/DC to a lesser extent, but still. There's not much point (only IMO) to these types of threads if people just post borderline metal.
