I'm really surprised that there isn't already a zelda thread, as i'm quite sure that games such as Ocarina of Time and A Link to the Past held/hold a significant place in our lives.

So i thought i should start a thread about these beloved games, especially since (imo) the soundtracks are superb, and this is a music-based website.

so to kick things off; i friggin love, the hyrule castle theme from aLttP and WW, whatre your guys' favorite songs?

There has been a Zelda thread. I'm an enormous fan but I'm too tired to make a lengthy post about my passionate love for the series. Favourite songs are Song of Storms, A Link to the Past Theme (well, the series theme, but that's the best version), Forest Temple (OoT), Gerudo Valley, fuck all the music is incredible.

Can't wait for Skyward Sword.

Fuck yeah the new videos have been outstanding. I still think the "50-100 hours" claim is just the usual developer exaggerated hype, but the game does look huge in scope and the whole sky focus is gonna be awesome I think. Screw boats and trains, it's time to soar the skies! I think it'll be great. Also glad to see the double hookshot return.

Heh, I was just playing the original on my beautiful NES a few days ago. I have had both since I was kid. Unlike any other console, or game I have owned, Zelda and the NES have never failed!! :headbang:

Best song? Nothing as Epic as Dark world from a Link to the past. Very nostalgic for me.

Anybody play Four Swords Adventure Anniversary yet? You can get it on a dsi or 3ds right now for free until February 20th and it has new levels and a single player mode. Pretty sweet game.

I'm a huge fan of some Zelda games, and yet I really dislike others. Link to the Past was awesome, Ocarina of Time blew my mind when it came out, and Wind Waker was incredible. I also spent a lot of time playing and enjoying Link's Awakening, but found it difficult to get into (because it was on Gameboy, and that green-yellow color was no fun). I was never too into the first two (for NES), I really disliked Majora's Mask, and I couldn't get into Twilight Princess at all, at all. I'm not looking forward to Skyward Sword and don't think I'll bother to check it out. Xenoblade and The Last Story should keep me busy at any rate, considering the slow, slow pace I move through games these days.

And yes, Link to the Past Dark World music rules.

Ocarina of Time for N64 was the only one that I ever really got into. The first two passed me by for some reason while I was growing up. Afterwards, I found Majora's Mask to be a bit of a cheap re-hash of the former classic, and never purchased a Gamecube/WII so I missed out on any further additions.

Was never a Zelda fan, really. I've played plenty of them (The original, Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess), but the only one I ever cared enough to finish was OoT, and that's purely because it was hyped up by so many as the best game ever. In fact, I remember not liking it that much but trudging through it just because it was supposed to be so great, but I remember the game clicking or something because I went through the last couple areas in like a day with minimal sleep, so it did grab me at one point but I've never gotten that far again and every time I restart it I never get past Jabu Jabu's Belly because I just get so bored of it. I should want to play through the best game ever more than once without it feeling like a chore. Maybe I'm just super dense, but each game seems so shamelessly similar to one another that I can't invest myself in any new one. Each time, I've got to rescue a princess or something like that while traversing roughly 8 or so dungeons, getting a new gadget in each one (and it'll always include a boomerang, hookshot, power bracelet, et cetera) and something involving a triforce and master sword will come up. I'm well aware I'm a Dynasty Warriors fan, but jeez.

A Link to the Past is video gaming ecstasy. After almost 20 years of it being released it's still fun as hell to play.

Yeah it still blows my mind they haven't remixed this song, of all songs, in later games. One of the best overworld themes ever.

Bathory's entire Twilight of the Gods album should be a zelda overworld soundtrack.

Xeogred, have you heard of the website vgmusic.com? its where people with MIDI software can upload their best renditions of any video game soundtrack from NES to PS3 and even the CG-I and Atari systems. there is an overload in zelda based midis that you guys might find entertaining to say the least (dont worry, a few lemons, but a lot of perfectly valid submissions)

Words cannot express how much of a Zelda fan I am. I love all the fucking games, and I dream about the Zelda world almost every night. Majora's Mask is my favorite game, with Ocarina of Time as a close second. :) I see several of you have listed the dark world theme and the hyrule castle theme as your favorite tracks, you can check out my covers of them if you like:

I'm also a pretty bad zelda fanboy, I love these games way too much, and I kind of want to get this tattooed on my back, across the shoulders.

I love the Zelda games and am now playing Four Swords on 3DS (Thanks Nintendo!) My favorite is Majora's Mask, I can't stop talking about how vastly different and dark this game is. But still insert obligatory ALttP and OoT love here.

My favorite Zelda tunes are the Lost Woods (LttP and OoT versions), Kakariko Village (OoT), Forest Temple (OoT) and the Song of Healing (MM).

Fun Fact:

US actor/comedian Robbin Williams named his daughter after princess Zelda. True story bro.

And yeah, the Zelda series is quite epic. Too bad none of us well ever know the timeline of when each games happens unless, of course, your some true fanboy conspiracist for the series. Once again a true story bro.

Phantom Ganondorf, yeah, he was badass.

My favourite boss...hmmm...I always replayed the final battle with Ganondorf at the end of OoT which is a really epic battle. A Link to the Past had some great bosses but I'm having trouble remembering them specifically.

Man, I love the Forest Temple from OoT. Such an unique atmosphere there. The eerie music really delivers and it just sounds like something is following you all the time, creeping up to you, laughing. The Forest Temple is the first moment in OoT that just felt darker, more evil than the rest of the game.

The Wind Waker is my second favourite game of all time (after the mighty Yoshi's Island). The cel shading graphics work very well and there's loads to do. I also love the sailing and triforce hunt stuff (though I know a lot of people hate the latter).

Ocarina of Time is also class. I've lost count of the number of times I've played through it. This definitely has the best music of the series.

Twilight Princess was a great game too. I really loved the atmosphere of the whole thing. One thing I hated though was opening chests in dungeons and getting a rupee, but then having to put it back because it wouldn't fit in my wallet. The bosses were excellent here though.

A Link to the Past and Link's Awakening are both awesome. Never completed either but I plan to someday.

I haven't played any of the others (except for a bit of Minish Cap) but, as above, I plan to (especially Majora's Mask). I think Skyward Sword looks very promising too.

Skyward sword does look awesome, but it also looks so bright and happy. I'd like to se a LOZ game with mostly dark tones, maybe a bit more morbid than the rest.

Probably one of the most nostalgic themes I've ever heard in gaming. Always takes me back to 10 years ago or whenever the game came out... the first time around the Forest Temple was a beast and took me forever to get through (I remember that and the Water Temple were the toughest for me, Fire Temple wasn't too bad but super long). But yeah, the Forest Temple theme is just like something is constantly laughing at your demise. It's psychotic and haunts me to this day, but damn I love it for that.

Yeah, man are you joking? Majora's Mask is dark as all fuck. I also found Twilight Princess pretty damn dark in parts. I forget what it was called, but what was that temple in the alternate dimension or something? Pretty sure it was one of the last ones. I remember the people outside the temple were creepy as all hell, and it was pretty eerie in general. Even Ocarina of Time has some pretty fucked up dark moments. Most of the games do, in fact.

Ocarina of Time is my favorite video game of all time. It was so a head of every thing else. It was the first 'open world' game I had ever played. Going through each town in day then night as child or adult. It also included a vintage Zelda story line involving all the classic characters and weapons. This game was the blue print for the modern RPG's. Running around doing little mini quests to earn you an item for the bigger main quests wheather it was for a minor character or a big part of the story line.

There is so much I wish I could type right now but I am having trouble putting it into words.

Yeah. Also, for console rpgs, the first comment I quoted would apply to Final Fantasy VII, not Ocarina of Time.

Its not an RPG but I think there are a lot of influences that a game like OoT would have on RPG's. Especially for the RPG's of the same era to evolve into what RPG's are known as today. At least as far as an action adventure stand point. I think that game probably has a big influence on all gaming genres to be honest. Im sure you can see what Im trying to say, take it with a grain of salt.
