Hey guys, need more great doom metal that's of the stoner variety. So far I've liked most of what I've heard even if a lot of it is pretty varied. As of now I really like Spirit Caravan, Om, Sleep, Electric Wizard, Orange Goblin, Acid Bath, Warhorse, Acid King, Church of Misery and Bongripper. Iron Monkey was ok but the vocals were not to my taste.

thanks.

Acrimony are pretty cool in my opinion, a bit generic in my mind but they may appeal to you nonetheless: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfOXzqnqCCU

Elder are pretty rad as well, young dudes but capable of producing some really, really heavy music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciJR5v3RGFE

Toner Low's first self-titled album is probably one of my favorite releases in the genre. For whatever reason the whole robot theme they have going on mixes perfectly with stoner / doom. Also, I just realized I stole a riff from them, damn it, they're just that good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81plxB5ISCM

Samsara Blues Experiment is so good. I wish I didn't have to import a copy of Long Distance Trip into the US. Ain't cheap!

Thanks for mentioning them.

I've worn out all my Candlemass records at this point so I'm looking for some more epic doom metal bands. I'm already familiarizing myself with Solitude Aeturnus and Messiah Marcolin's other projects so there's no need to recommend those. In particular, I'd like to find bands with particularly slow and catchy riffing, thick guitar tones, and excellent vocalists (all defining characteristics of Candlemass's sound).

Thanks in advance.

I'd like to know more of these too... Other ones from the top of my head are Isole, Ereb Altor, Black Oath, Solitude Aeturnus. Anyone know more of that stuff? I might have forgotten a few from that little list.

Otherwise, trad doom without "epicness" or w/e you want to call that would be cool too. Like Saint Vitus, old Black Sabbath, Pentagram, Witchfinder General, Trouble, Solstice etc.

Looking for more um, Pagan sounding doom bands. Not 100% sure if I have the right idea of the sound, but any rec would be appreciated!

Why a full length? There are plenty of doom bands that have something going for them?

Pallbearer are the main ones I've been keeping an eye on. A full length is on the way and I know it will be really good. They are reminiscent of Warning and 40 Watt Sun. Except even in their one demo state they are better than both of those bands. Their cover of Gloomy Sunday is fucking amazing.

I just find collecting full lengths the best because there's really never a chance of song duplication. You know how some bands may have a few songs the put on an ep and a full length? But anyway pallbearer wasn't quite what I was looking for, any other suggestions?

I'm slowly making my way further into the Doom genre and I'm looking for bands like Katatonia but with Death growls. I already know Novembers Doom and Swallow the Sun. Please dont smite me for my Doom metal noobness. :-P

Also I'm not sure if i'm necro posting in this thread or not, I mean this IS the offical doom/stoner help thread right?

You've heard Katatonia's Dance of December Souls right? Check October Tide's debut and Paradise Lost's earlier stuff.

Is there anything similar to Trouble's debut? Think of doom metal with high pitched vocals and very energetic riffing.

OK, my second try here.

Some time ago i discovered The Wounded Kings. I really like the first two albums but i cant get into the new vocals. After further searching for bands i recently found Flood. As i asked the last time i had only TWK maybe you get more ideas of what i am searching when i add Flood now?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFaUekYi-s0

I know it´s not exactly like TWK but i dont know that much about Doom/Stoner etc. I searched through a lot of bands but either there are toooo much into the "Dopesmoker" direction or too slow. But TWK and also flood are between those two extremes. Their music is more remarkable for me, its more melodic and "faster" than a Thergothon or Skepticism but it´s way "darker" than Sleep or Acid King wich is important to me. I don´t want to have a bunch of weedsmoking kids on a summerroad in the VW bus in my mind. And i want heavy, vibrating guitars. Maybe you know also something obscure or wired too?

BTW, i can also throw OM´s Bhimas Theme in the pot. Maybe it´s not that dark but it´s a good example of the "flow" i mean.

The Wounded Kings always remind me of the epic end section of Cathedral's "Equilibrium", where the solo guitar plays a haunting melody and the band crashes in with the huge crushing chord progression. For this rather tenuous reason, I suggest that Cathedral's debut album "Forest of Equilbrium" may be up your street, if you don't already know it. In my opinion, it is the perfect album with a heavy, dark sound, but without sounding too extreme or slow like Thergothon. And it is before they went all "weedsmoking on a summer road in the VW bus".

Cathedral -- "Equilibrium" (starts at end section)

Can someone give me any ideas which releases to get from Thou? I really enjoyed the split with Leech, and I'm looking to get more of their releases.

Someone please recommend me more bands like Old One: Extremely fuzzed out trad / stoner doom with lots of space for the music to breathe.

Check out Devil, Burning Saviours, Jex Thoth, Blood Ceremony, The Devil's Blood & Graveyard.

Everyone should check out Procession & Orodruin.

Looking for doom metal (let it be doom/death or whatever) with vocals similiar to Katatonia's Dance of December Souls or Anathema's The Silent Enigma. Think of vocals that are still growled, but have this sharp, vicious tone and are higher pitched than the typical death metal grunt that some doom/death bands used (Paradise Lost being a good example.)

We need more people talking about doom. I've been very into dirty, grimy sludge lately. Most of it seems to have come from america during the '90s. But it's also been interesting to find that scene fostered some of the earliest forms of "post metal" (see Mass - s/t released by the late Man's Ruin Records. The label released a lot of very underrated doom, and some of the bands that started with them would go on to achieve relative fame (Nebula is the only one I can recall)).

Anyway, tell me about some stuff like Iron Monkey, Eyehategod, Sleep, Electric Wizard, Cavity, Melvins, Saint Vitus, Grief...

I would like to avoid death metal growls if possible. I just want really dense riffs. Solos would be nice. Whatever, please, I'm just really vibin' on this scene right now and I want to explore it while I'm still enthusiastic about it.

Do yourself a favour and check The Wounded Kings, really great Trad doom with a dark atmosphere à la Electric Wizard. Also a recent discovery of mine would be Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats, good vintage doom with some stoner thrown in there.

I'll check out UAatDB. I've heard The Wounded King, I have their split with Cough. I may need to revisit their full lengths. The song on the split captures me in a way nothing else of theirs has.

I just discovered the two funeral doom bands Fallen (Nor) and Colosseum.

My god, I've listened to a lot of metal in my time, but never before have I bought albums so quickly after listening. Pure orchestral bliss.

Sempiternal Deathreign

They released one full-length, titled The Spooky Gloom, it's quite good stuff, but it's hard to find an original copy.

Adding Dark Millennium as it fits the same description.
