Sleep - The Holy Mountain is mandatory.
Orange Goblin is easy to find and have a lot of albums.
Dozer - In the Tail of the Comet is another one of my favorites.

Jesus totally fucking agree, just added them to MA, really really hope it goes through, they totally deserve to be on here. Long Distance Trip is actually a very heavy and solid release but the clean vocals and Eastern influences balance it out nicely.

THIS JUST IN:

Samsara Blues Experiment was added to MA! Great news right there. But...

They denied Horseback again. Now I know if anything metallic they are something of a Atmospheric/Psychedelic Black Metal band, but are you telling me this->http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xQuVbFbuZw consists of no Doom Metal elements at all? I beg to differ, in fact, you must be fucking mental not to think these guys are heavy enough for MA. Then again I understand that there is no 'rule' and they choose whatever they want to put up. Just so you know, they're new album is coming, and one day, these guys will be added to MA, and no one will know how their first release couldn't be metal enough.

Please feel free to assert your opinion, and if you know any bands similar to Horseback for the love of god stop reading this and post a link!

I post this here since the thread got no response.

I'm looking for songs that use really bleak arpeggios with deep, somber clean vocals, I love that kind of sound. Some examples of what I'm looking for:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCztXuXAPqM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sbURPlF-QQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=le6u35KmcE0

It's mostly used for beginning/intros and verses, before the heavy and growled parts kick in, it creates an amazing atmosphere. I'm not looking for songs of a specific genere, but it seems to be used mostly in doom metal. Thanks in advance!

Hey can I get some recs for (relatively obscure) Sludge/Doom in the vein of Grief's "Dismal", Nooothgrush's "Erode The Person", etc? So not really bluesy like some Sludge gets, slow like 75% of the time (or more), dissonant, and cathartic as hell?

Anyone know what the hell The Arm and Sword of a Bastard God are up to nowadays? I really enjoyed their demo and their side of the split they did with Coffins, and then they just kinda...fell off the face of the planet.

Hi, I'm looking to expand my Funeral Doom collection. I was hoping y'all could reccomend me some good, classic funeral doom to get. I've already heard Ahab, Catacombs, and Worship, but little else besides that.

Horseback. I highly recommend it.

Also, check the blog Doomed to be Stoned in a Sludge Swamp. They keep close tabs on basically every doom band ever, and it will certainly help you find the up and coming thing.

Does someone knows a band that is compareable to The Wounded Kings - The Shadow Over Atlantis? That album really catched me. I already tried Embrace Of The Narrow House and the split with Cough. But thats far away from TSOA. I like the production, the melodies, every song stands for itself and is remarkable. There is somewhat more variety than in other doom stuff i have heard (until now).
In some reviews is a hint to Electric Wizzard, unfortunally i can´t handle their music. So, can someone mention another band?

A great album that. There isn't anything else that sounds exactly like TWK, but I get some of the same feeling from Pallbearer, although they don't have the old dark progressive rock influence as far as I know. Give Pallbearer a try and maybe you'll find something there to enjoy regardless.

I've worn out all my Candlemass records at this point so I'm looking for some more epic doom metal bands. I'm already familiarizing myself with Solitude Aeturnus and Messiah Marcolin's other projects so there's no need to recommend those. In particular, I'd like to find bands with particularly slow and catchy riffing, thick guitar tones, and excellent vocalists (all defining characteristics of Candlemass's sound).

Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your answer!

Unfortunally it doesn´t work for me. It is hard to explain what i am looking for. I am searching new music and i thought i could find something in the doom genre. As far as a know Sui Caedere is also some kind of Black Metal/Doom. There is a part in a song that has also the kind of feeling i am searching. It is the part from 3:00 to 5:10 ...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vh5QcRrQ ... re=related

But thats not "powerfull" enough. The problem is, when i listen to Doom there there are some good songs. But when i listen a whole album it starts to become one big chunk of music. For example, i like the Stabat Mater song from the crushing the holy ... sampler. But as i heared a whole album it doesn´t worked. The same with the Funeral Orchestra (great voice!), Opium de Occulta sounds great, but a whole album becomes boring.

I try to look through some threads here, maybe i found something else.

Don't know if this is the right place to ask this, and I hate to ask without really offering anything but if I don't hear more decent doompunk I'll die a horrible death. This is urgent. I'm talkin stuff like Debris Inc (click) and early Saint Vitus. If anyone doesn't know of anything, well, listen to Debris Inc! It's swell! I Recommend Them Greatly.

Thank.

Forsaken from Malta and Solstice's first album will be what you're looking for.

Very nice. I hear a bit more of melodic black metal in that though. Good nonetheless.

They're actually supposed to be a melodeath/doom metal act (the doom is more prominent in some of their other songs, esp. "Core of Winter" and "Cold").

But yeah, this is basically my favourite doom metal band at this time, along with Swallow the Sun and Paradise Lost. I'm sorta making my way in with the "beginner" sound and slowly rooting myself further, like I did with death and black.

hey, i am just getting into stoner doom type stuff and would like to know what are basically considered the "classics" and essentials and whatnot.

i really like death doom, and stoner doom, funeral doom etc.
bands ive enjoyed so far:

cathedral
acid witch
hooded menace
sleep
electric wizard
witchsorrow
ahab
cough

especially looking for good stoner doom that has a slow doom pace, but is really psycadelic. like skeleton of god's primordal domination but slowed down 5000% lol

I think Warhorse might be a band you'd like. Harsh vocals that aren't really comparable to very many other singers, heavy as fuck guitars, and psychedelic sections sprinkled throughout. Give 'em a shot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgKcONuq11c

As for death / doom that still has a pretty obvious stoner influence, you might like some of Runemagick's material. Their early stuff is pretty traditional old school death metal, and their new stuff is very simplistic and slow, but their middle era stuff had some cool stoner-ish influences: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKzLJhmXtMA

Zoroaster are also pretty good at being stoner / doom without being really generic and lame, strangely enough this version of Bullwhip (which doesn't appear anywhere else!) is my favorite thing they've done, but there's some great riffs here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3N4fFMKD10

And uh, I guess if you want bands that are similar to Sleep, listen to Acid King, Toner Low, and maybe Ufomammut. If you enjoy Electric Wizard, check out the band that spawned from them, Ramesses, which is a more death-metal influenced take on the sound.

Can anyone recommend me some weird funeral doom bands? Not necessarily avant-garde (if there exists such a thing), but rather, a little off in its execution. I already know about Fungoid Stream.

Can anyone recommend me some Epic/Trad Doom similar to Candlemass' Nightfall or anything from the Messiah era. Messiah is prolly the best vocalist I've ever heard and anyone who is nearly as skillful as he should be enough for me.

Hey guys, need more great doom metal that's of the stoner variety. So far I've liked most of what I've heard even if a lot of it is pretty varied. As of now I really like Spirit Caravan, Om, Sleep, Electric Wizard, Orange Goblin, Acid Bath, Warhorse, Acid King, Church of Misery and Bongripper. Iron Monkey was ok but the vocals were not to my taste.

thanks.

For stoner doom definably Dozer. Their early stuff sounds more like Kyuss while they evolved to more of a High on Fire like sound.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EAxm50p5JA

Witch's debut album is pretty cool and has some 70s psychedelic rock elements
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5von-_F ... re=related

Suma is one of my favorites. They remind me a lot of Tool
