I guess the question is for me if that's not the case please be particular about whom you are asking !

If it is about my sketch it took me some 8 to 12 hours to complete it.

My art sucks compared to mostly everything on here, but it's inspired me to start drawing again and get better! Really like some of the work here.

Finally sat down and attempted to draw something other than a band logo. I need some more practice... All in pencil.

def. true and it also reminds me somehow of Ved Buens Ende's "Written in waters" cover. Same kind of weird (good!) style.
btw - hers's the VBE one for taking a comparison look:

trying to get back into practice with doing portraits. acrylic, oil, graphite. I need to try some more imaginative stuff when I get more into practice with certain media. It's been 10 years since I touched oil paints, until now. Argh. I envy some of you guys for making such cool and creative stuff in this thread. ^_^

If you want to paint dudes with corpse paint, put some on yourself and take some reference photos. That's what I do and its a shit ton of fun.

Except I'm not a dude (and people always have bizarre reactions to seeing me in corpsepaint), and I sent most of those drawings/paintings to the people I painted (i.e., painted as gifts, except for the Darkthrone one). I much prefer painting people without corpsepaint, actually, and am working on portraits of family members for practice, because I hate painting myself. Too many self-portrait assignments when I was in art school killed that for me. ^_^ Trying to get makeup to look right has its own special challenges, though.

Ah I see. I just really love coming up with a cool corpse paint design, putting it on, and then doing some drawings. Where/when were you in art school by the way? I'll be starting this September.

I finished that about 10 years ago in Edinboro, PA. They were good years though, and the assignments that make you do shit you don't wanna do can actually be helpful (in contrast, now I have no discipline and often feel lacking in ideas). So now I'm just giving people portraits of themselves or their dogs for their birthdays, lol. I've actually been googling for drawing/painting ideas/assignments because I have no ideas at the moment.

Thanks, and thanks for that pic. I can't believe the craftsmanship and talent it took to make those let alone out of brass or whatever they were made of. I've always admired the old artisans who did not have computers and modern equipment to create these great works.

Actually that's all art is, fucking around with layers and effects like in painting, drawing, sculpture, music, dance, theatre, so IMO it is all art, it is just as valid, except some of artists imbue it with deeper meaning than others, or think they do. I really like that last one the Soul's Mourning Ceremony. It looks like my backyard when the fog rolls in and the coyotes get closer. I've been looking back through the pages and there's so much stuff that hasn't been commneted upon but still deserves our attention.

Hm . You could be right but what I meant is my works can't be compared to an actual painting because with photoshop overall I'm dealing with photo/painting that already exists  but I'm glad that you liked one of them and BTW your paintings are killer ones !

Yeah, I agree!
I saw those maybe like 8 years ago and took some photographs with my analog camera (didn't have a digital one at that time).
Two years ago I came back to Florence and spent some hours trying to remember where the pieces were. I even asked in shops and art galleries around the zone and nobody could tell me.
I finally found them two streets away from where I thought they were.

Yes, a great classical painter. In my advanced painting class we were to copy a master. I broke down my list of possible masters down to Bouguereau and Klimt. Bouguereau's Evening Mood and Klimt's Judith II (Salome). Evening Mood is the more beautiful painting but under time constraints it was highly intimidating to complete it in a couple of weeks as he tended to work in many glazes until he got the right effect so I went with the Klimt which is more painterly and the more forgiving if you make mistakes along the way. Bouguereau is a great teacher though and I will have to return to his work some time.

I love how in his work he focuses on people the most (he makes their skin tones and outlines sharp and blended, as if they were real) and when he has a background he purposely has the edges of the objects slightly blurred enough to make your eye focus on the people.

Not a great deal of my work is overtly macabre or 'metal' but have a look here if you'd like.

I can't draw to save my life but I have been doing this sorta abstract style for awhile. For years I've been doing these geometric and linear patterns on the margins of my schoolwork. Every one of my papers is drowned in this shit. A lot of teachers and students took notice and complimented me on the designs. These are the only full-page drawings I have and I've only shown them to a handful of people. Any comments or opinions?

As I think I mentioned, I'm going to RISD starting in the fall. They sent us all a sketchbook to work in so here are a couple things I've done in that:

A self portrait:

Yeah, I remember him. He did artwork for The Divine Comedy, Paradise Lost, and some Edgar Allen Poe stories. Makes godly detail for graphite art.

I've been sketching a bit more since I started working at this tattoo shop. I have an hour-long subway commute, which in itself sucks, but it's kind of advantageous in that I get to listen to a lot of metal and sometimes draw. Today I put pen to paper and for some reason this emerged.

Image

At first it was just a rough sketch, but I got kind of obsessed with the details of the blood, the twisted flesh around the spearhead, stuff like that, until it became a pretty nicely developed drawing. It's not often I draw representational stuff like this off the top of my head, so it was a refreshing session. :)

Almost looks like an etching, actually. Like some pulp horror fusion of Dürer and Goya.
