We are beginning a new songwriting challenge, and every single Metal-Archives member is invited to join! The last challenge went very well, and most agreed that it was an improvement over challenges in the past (download the songs from the past challenge here...http://www.mediafire.com/?sc61596ddwcfd4e). Let's continue the trend and make this challenge even better.

This time around, participants will be randomly assigned genres from the various types of metal listed below (taken from kingnuuuur):
(a) death metal
(b) black metal
(c) doom metal
(d) power/speed metal
(e) thrash metal/crossover
(f) progressive metal/fusion
(g) grindcore/deathgrind
(h) groove metal
(i) industrial metal
(j) sludge metal/stoner rock
(k) viking/folk metal
(l) gothic/symphonic metal

The only catch is: if you know you don't want to be assigned a particular genre, tell me beforehand. Remember, this is a chance to get out of your comfort zone, so don't be too prohibitive about which genres you may be assigned. This could be an awesome way to get out of a songwriting rut you might be stuck in.

Send all songs to ShaolinLambKiller via PM.

PARTICIPANTS:

Oh man depending on the genre I might need a vocalist. I think I can pull off everything else... I mean fake it.

I'm in, but I hope I don't get (d) (k) and (l).
I hope I get some extreme metal just so I don't lose too much focus on my projects. Hell, I might even include the song on a release then.

lol. Hey Geo, you and Kinghurpadurp talk at all about making some sort of demo/ or LP? I'd totally buy that.

Not an improbability. I haven't come across nearly enough people who can sing clean good anyway.

EDIT: That reminds me. I haven't had the time nor the spirit to (re)remix the THS song with new vocals. :| Sorry about that GeoCO3.

I am willing to provide synths (including but not limited to choirs) and drum programming (I use Superior Drummer 2.0 with The Metal Foundry expansion), but that is all I can offer at the moment, as my recording interface just crashed on me, and I cannot record guitars, bass, or vocals.

Hmm, I would take you up on that man. My drum programming aparently isn't very believable.

I think it would be more fun if people kept their genre assignments secret until the songs are all uploaded. But that's up to you guys.

I can dig that. Well I may need some vocal help unless I can get my shit down for in the next couple weeks. my metal vocals are rather week as you all know, still can't get the hang of lows, and i'd hate to actually use pig squeals :ugh:

I'm soooooooooo in!!! but please don't give me g, h, i and l. I'm really not into any of them XP and I have one question. if we got the power metal option, could we do power metal instruments with harsh vocals or is it strictly just power metal?

It seems that I'm going to be sending my guitar for repairs, there's a stripped screw in the bridge that's fucking killing me. I might delay the song for a little while, or use my other semi-retired guitar.

Goddamn stripped screws.

Song written, recorded, and submitted!

Are we allowed to discuss things (or even share the songs), or should everything be kept under wraps?

I don't know about you, but when I left my cereals in the bowl for too long they turned into... a highly moist semi-solid material.

The crispiness comes from the surface crust.

So say for instance I got BM as my genre. I could of course add a splash of thrash or a few shots of heavy metal, right? I'm not going to have the book thrown at me if more than BM would be detected in my song, right?

Yeah you could go for a D666 blackened thrash type of sound.

Cool. I'm thinking i may have some trouble doing the vocals for my song, so I'm trying to see how much I can get away with.

I uploaded half of the last challenge's songs to youtube, working on the rest today, should I post them here or in the other thread?

Also I've got my song half written, working outside my usual boundaries is proving quite a challenge.

If anyone needs any vocals, or any other instrument for that matter, I can provide them. I'm kinda bored and have nothing to do.

The other thread I'd say. I'll try to do another thread for all the previous challenges pretty soon.

Spoiler: show
(for real this time!)
After several hours of toying around, I finally managed to tune my guitar to A# and sculpt a tone with it. The intonation is off, but I don't think it'll be noticeable with the HUGE WALLS OF POURING MOLTEN RIFFS.

Looks like the challenge's going at a lightning fast pace compared to the last one. Excellent!

Mmm yeah maybe the genres should've waited until the 8th. I don't think it's that much of a problem though, worst case scenario we all get a reroll.

Anyone interested in collaborating with me? I've never actually participated in one of these before since I have no recording equipment, but I'd be willing to at least write the song (guitar, bass and drums). In Guitar Pro, of course. So by the off chance that anyone is interested, please PM me. I'll try my best to contribute.
