I remember some old songwriting challenge, I think it would have been in 2008, in which the task was to make a song that was 20 minutes long? Some Australian guy hosted it I believe. I've still got my song, it's kinda cool.

I haven't come across that one. Post your song and a link to the thread if you find it.

Nah. Just download the thing, put yours in, reupload it and pass me the link.

Damn, I just missed the most recent one, right when I'm starting to play/write/sing again. (Though my vocals are not quite up to their former level.)

Three quick questions:

1) I've seen that people are allowed help from people off the site. What I'm wondering, is would it be possible for me to work with the people I normally work with, although we are technically more than one band? (Yeah, that's confusing. Think of a heavy metal version of the Elephant 6 collective, we play in each other's bands and there are different names for different styles/projects.)

2) If I write/arrange/design/ the solos (if any) and drums, but someone else plays them, is that acceptable? (Someone off the site, I would want to use the main lead guitarists from my two main projects (one is more death/black/grunge/Melvins (yeah, from my original everything heavy from the 90's melted band) the other is more death/grind/groove/Dimebag type)

3) Would I be able to later re-release the songs I do for it on my own? (Obviously with the permission of anyone on the board I would collaborate with.)

Thanks

Here are 6 of the Challenge VII submissions I uploaded to youtube. I'm going to wait till vocals are done on mine to upload that, and I would like to wait for trigger to have someone redo his song, or redo it himself. Not trying to be a dick, I just want to represent you better since I know your songwriting and playing ability is great but the quality is just unbearable, for me at least.

Frostbitten Basement: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxCShnGjsZM

Theoria: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yACSgb_ozco

54RtestKp3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQl7er48uwA

Swords Tale: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNR_QGsYrVs

Thrashstruck: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grQR4fRfMvI

The Wizard Rides to King's Cross: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_oM7hkkVKY

Everything went better than expected.

Alright everyone, I'd like to voulnteer to host the next song challenge. I'll try really hard to get a song recorded. A new studio opened up in my town, so I might just bite the bullet and pay to have it recorded. Oh well. Anyone have ideas for a new challenge?

If we did another lyrics switch I would definitely join in. That contest seemed like a lot of fun.

I Agree. I feel like shit for not getting my song done. I'll do my very best this time, even if I have to pay for it!

The leftovers idea is cool, but when do you think we should hold it? I think that we should wait for a few weeks and maybe start in late August/early September to allow for some time between challenges.

September or October*. Having challenges too often can make things go really stale. They should be treated like special events IMO.

By the way, here's another suggestion for the next challenge: Write the most epic music you can.

*Actually, once per trimester sounds cool to me.

Alrighty fellows, September is coming around the corner, so lets get some stuff figured out.
1. Have we decided on the random theme/lyrics?
2. Should we submit a few more lyrical ideas?
3. Do we want to ad any other plot twists into the challenge?
4. Do we want to scrap this one and start anew?

Hey guys:

I wasn't 100% satisfied with the finished product of the song "Thrashtruck" I wrote for the last challenge, so I recorded some gang shouts and reiter/RageW wrote and recorded some legit solos for it.

I don't know if I'll have time to participate, but that challenge produced a lot of really interesting, unexpected and collaborative results, so I think it's worth doing again.

Cool, will check it out.

I think I'm game for a new challenge. I need to compensate for my last no-show. :grumble: Though hopefully with some death metal.

Hey, about the sixth Challenge from March/April, hosted by kingnuuuuuuuuur... To those who participated and/or listened to the results and enjoyed the submission by Devirginizer and me (Irrelevant, lyrics by guitartheist), and, last but not least, to those, if anyone, who care: more material has been written in the meantime and we named the project Omninihilist. Just to wear out the I in your keyboard. We're recording currently.

Nice! It'll be released on a split tape with Evagatio Mentis, which basically is the funeral doom version of Omninihilist. It's not as sinister though, and much more elaborate in terms of instrumentation.
