With all of the bands out there still releasing demo tapes (one of which I am a member of) it seems reasonable to have a thread for bands who wish to trade their material with other bands for their respective works, in a format similar to that of the tape trading era.

I believe this would be a good way for obscure bands to get their names out, or to discover new music, as you would not have to necessarily be trading your own work. Basically, my ideal for this is that a band/individual would post something explaining their material, and the other participants of the thread would reply to them via e-mail or private messaging, where they would exchange contact information and send their work to one another and arrange a trade.

To start, I'll post an example:

Band - Lys
Album - Drifting Through Despair (Demo 2010)
Genre - Atmospheric black metal
Accepted trades - Any not already owned (this can be used to specify genre preferences, or any other criteria you may have for trading, although I would hope to keep it as open as possible)
Contact - [email protected] OR [email protected] (PMs are checked, but less frequently)

It isn't required that you use this format, of course. Any information you want to include can be included, just let everyone else know what your demo is and how you may be contacted.

Vrahk - Runs the Achtung Records label, which allows trades and specializes in black metal.

Haha, well I didn't expect quite such a negative response. I guess it's understandable, since Myspace is kind of known for being a hotbed of unworthy bands (which it seems a few of you would rank my own work, oh well) but I don't see why one can't have the convenience of a band website and the passion for tape trading that existed before the internet was a present force.

Again, you don't have to trade with anyone whose music/aesthetic you don't like; this thread is meant as a way for anyone who wishes to trade their work to find like-minded individuals. As for those who don't like my music or the fact that I use Myspace, that's perfectly fine. By no means do I mean for this thread to be a petty self-promotion, I would rather see many bands trading with each other than simply promoting receiving my work.

And to morbid_reality666: thank you for the information, I'll be sure to check out your label!

While some users may feel the notion of actually wanting people to hear your music is ridiculous, I think it's a good idea.

I am working on my second fanzine and I do a radio show in NJ, almost weekly, in the NYC area, have regular listeners and would be willing to give ANYONE interested air time if their material deserves it. I will take any physical format.

well neither do I currently. we have songs solid, and we were due to go into the studio a while ago but we had to cancel, and now we are concentrating on writing songs for a gig we are hosting in July, but I imagine we should have recordings before then. I just need to find someone to convert them into tape form for me.
