I have my first song done, at least the music. No clue on lyrics or how I'm going to do vocals yet.

Argh I'm so busy with the endless torrent of various things going on in my life. I was able to record the rhythm guitar of track 1 on to tape and that's about it. I'm wondering if I will have enough time to finish this... :/

I haven't recorded shit yet. I've got some free time tomorow, I may have to get my ass together and do some recording. I've got to figure out how to get some good sounding drum tracks into my music. It'll be interesting only using a bass and vocals haha. I'll probably just use a drum programmer.

couple questions

1. Can one track be like an intro or is that frowned upon?
2. If we don't make 2 tracks can we still enter 1 track?

yea an intro counts as a track. outros are counted as well.

try to finish 2 songs but hell go ahead and submit one if you cant

overkill, I'm already doing drums for sledgehammer.... why not just ask me to nail out those tracks as well? I'm hammering though my shit.

composed, recording scratch guitar and recorded drums to a 2nd song today along side smashing out some other drum tracks.

I don't want this music recording contest to get in the way of the Sledgehammer release my man, I'm too hyped for that. :)

In that case... If I came up with a song would you do drums for me? Just got my new guitar finished and amps setup.

Just about every track in the competition will have drums by you soon, haha!

Time is ticking down!

I'll be doing bass this evening and I might go on and do guitars.

I went on and did bass and both guitar tracks to each song. I'm not going to do all the additional work I had planned on doing on it cause I really don't have that much more time I want to devote to it. so I'll be doing my vocals this weekend or next week and calling it a day on it.

There's no way I'm going to be able to finish in time. I have been soooo busy lately I have not been able to even pick a guitar up over the past week.

Well all I need to do now is re-mix the vocals and record drums. Might not have a chance though, so it might just be the shitty dummy track you guys will hear.

I'll cram in some recordings on friday or something. Don't expect musical genius, it'll be experimental I guess.

yea mine aren't as tight as I would normally make them but I really didn't care since it's just for this. I'm just going to even out the volume on the drums and let it go.

Well I've fixed the vocals a bit, so I guess if you're up for doing the drums that'd be no problem. I'll just forward it to you over PM.

I think though, when I have time I'm going to re-do everything, since it's all been a bit rushed and I'm liking this song a lot. :P

I know what you mean. I'm def doing that for the previous challege's song and developing more for that project.

this one.. well i'm not sure if people like it then I might take some more time with it and work on it more and if not I'll probably cannibal all the riffs and use them in different forms for my other bands... that is if I remember them. this stuff I didn't even bother to tab out.

well today I've played an outro ... i know it's not a 3 songs challenge ... but can I send it ?? I have song 1 , song2 then outro ....
Edit: the outro is something oriental as well done on my old-school keyboard and mastered it so that it sounds like played from old tape .

Okay, two songs written, one around three minutes, one way over 7, or even 8. Now we just have to record it. I really hope we can finish them. Especially the long song ought to be killer! :)

Sweet no probs, I've got a "base" midi drum track, which is some ideas you could use, but you've got freedom to do what you think will fit better.

shaolin, you can probably take the old kick track and put kicks where they were supposed to be using copies of kicks that your mic did pick up. its a little cheap, but it beats the hell out of redoing all drum tracks for the song.

another thing, this is the second damn competion like this time has not allowed me to participate in. i love the idea of creating an album based out of MA users. surprised no one has thought of it before

Well it's definite I won't have the drums ready by the time this is over, so I'm not sure whether or not I should submit it as is with the dummy track. I'm planning to write another two songs and make it an EP, so I don't know if it'd be a good idea showing people the half-assed product.

I'm sorry to say that I'm not taking part in the challenge anymore. Job has been occupying most of my free time during the holidays now. I'm planning to use my salary to get some gears instead of programming all the time. Best of luck for those taking part, am eager to hear all those good stuff.

I was working on doing that in drum tracker. but the signal is so fucked up or blown esp during double bass. It's not worth my time to invest in it. when I was attempting it I spent an hour on one min of a track and one hour on a totally different track. I really don't want to spend 3 hours on one kick track.

it really is worth it for me to re-record. it's not difficult, I love drumming, and I leave my kit set up tot record at all time so it's only a matter of turning on the laptop to record.

Brodic i'll be doing it on Friday, maybe this evening depending on this whole turkey dinner shits.

and that's no prob undis.

I think this is going to be a very short one since I've only gotten tracks from 2 people.

I would love to participate in one of these song writing challenges, but it seems as though I am a little late in entering.
I have done a little research, and I have noticed that there has been a previous challenge that was completed, and this is the next stage.

Thread starter, would it be possible for you and I to compose some criteria for a challenge, perhaps for mid January-2011?
If your not all too interested, I can go about drawing some rules up myself, as long as I know that a few people will be taking part in it.

I am thinking that a progressive Black Metal song challenge could be a pretty cool idea, if around four people aside from myself are willing, you know, so we can get some raw and dark BM going on this site.

So how about it? anyone think its a good idea?
