any of you other reviewers out there get an email from this band from Uganda asking for reviews? I'm just a bit curious as to whether or not they're on the up and up.

I certainly didn't get one. Bands that lack reviews sometimes contact reviewers (you know, with that top 50 and all on the stats page) to get some reviews out of them. Probably haven't gotten mine yet or won't at all, but when they contact you specifically there's always a particular reason.

Well, them being from Uganda is weird but not impossible, the explanation for why me seemed a bit thin, as they said I was recomended to them specifically from some guy I've never talked to or heard of, didn't mention my name specifically, some odd spacing, seemed like it might be a form letter somehow trying to collect names and addresses of amatuer heavy metal reviewers for nefarious purposes!

I haven't received any e-mails but I've known about Vale Of Amonition for quite awhile. They are genuine and are from Uganda.
As a matter of fact, SHAXUL (ex-Deathspell Omega) knows about them.
